(1) Power
28 V aircraft power supplies the HDU, and the IPLD (LGA System) or Bias-T (Active LGA
System).
(2) GPS
For the Active LGA system only, the default setting is to use the embedded GPS in the Bias-T
by connecting to the MPDS port of the HDU. This method is described in greater detail in the
installation section of this manual. However, you can also connect to any of the other options
described in this section. The GPS (GNSS) data labels are shown in Table 1-7.
The HDU provides three standard connections to the navigation systems on the aircraft.
Each connection can accept labels from:
• Inertial

The CCU supplies various interfaces to users in the cabin and 4-wire audio interfaces for users in
the cockpit.
The SBB connection can serve simultaneous users and optional guaranteed rates of transfer. In SBB
mode, you can specify various rates of service to different users and applications, for example, a low-rate
service for an email user and a higher rate service for a user transferring large files.
Page 1-11
23-15-12 25 Sep 2015
• SBB Class 15 - can provide data services including background IP up to 200 kbps, up to two
streaming IPs of 8 kbps or 16 kbps, a single streaming IP (8 kbps to 32 kbps) and one AMBE+2 low
cost voice. The BendixKing AeroWave™ 100 systems only support SBB Class 15.
• Class 15 systems can only access SBB services when the angle to the satellite is greater than
20 degrees.
• A BendixKing AeroWave™ 100 equipped with an LGA or Active LGA can access only Class
15 services.
6. Installation Overview

For connection J4, utilize a M24308/2-1F Female DB 9 connector included in the Active
LGA installation kit, PN 89000015-001.
D. ESCM
You can install the ESCM in any orientation. Refer to Figure 2-4 for mounting information.
The ESCM uses a DB-26M connector. The mating DB-26F connector is included in PN
120-29255-101 (LGA system) or PN 89000015-001 installation (Active LGA system) kit.
To install the LGA, you must obtain the approval of the appropriate government air/radio authority,
such as the FAA, EASA, or Transport Canada. Contact the authorities when you begin planning
your communication system in order to minimize approval and certification issues.
For clear satellite communication, install the antenna on the top of the fuselage, as close to
the centreline and as far aft as possible (away from any GPS antenna). Make sure that the
antenna has a clear view of the sky in any direction from 5° to 90° in elevation and 360° in
azimuth.
NOTE: The antenna can only access the Inmarsat network at elevations of 20° and above.
Page 3-7
23-15-12 25 Sep 2015
To prevent interference with GPS systems, the GPS antenna should adhere to C144 TSO
and physical placement must be in accordance with section 2.3.3.13 of ARINC 741:
A general rule of thumb is to supply 3 feet (0.91 meter) or more of separation from a WAAS
GPS antenna.
(a) Carefully position and secure the antenna assembly on the fuselage. Antenna bonding
must be performed per AC43.13-2B Section 307.
Install the LGA so that the maximum RF cable loss is 0.3 dB at 1650 MHz.
NOTE: The cable loss limit of 0.3 dB is a generic value that covers all aircraft types and
equipment configurations. Depending on specific installation environments, the cable
loss may be increased slightly without compromising system performance or
invalidating system certification. If required, contact Honeywell for more information.
The LGA contains a TNC-F connector. A mating cable assembly is included in the Carlisle
Kit, PN 120-29256-103, listed in Table 3-1.
(a) Carefully position and secure the antenna assembly on the fuselage. Antenna bonding
must be performed per AC43.13-2B Section 307. Use of an electrically conductive and
thermal conductive sealer such as PR-1764 M Class B is recommended to improve
thermal performance.
(b) Connect the cable provided (PN 89000015-002) to the antenna assembly.
NOTE: When using the cables provided, the cable loss will be 4.7 dB at 1650 MHz for the
cable between the Bias-T and Active LGA. The cable loss will also be 1.5 dB at 1650
MHz for each of the cables between the HDU and Bias-T. If your installation requires
a custom cable, the cable loss must be measured. If this is required, contact
BendixKing for more information.
For information about installing the Active LGA, refer to Figure 2-8.

D. Configuring NAV
The BendixKing AeroWave™ 100 uses information from a navigation system to control the
antenna. To operate the system, you must configure the type of navigational information available
to the HDU and the transmission speed of NAV buses. Configuring the NAV type and speed is
required to provide aircraft location, speed, and direction.
Page 5-3
23-15-12 25 Sep 2015
For the Active LGA system, there is an embedded GPS in the Bias-T that is utilized for this purpose.
If you receive or anticipate poor quality consistently, you may connect to any other NAV inputs that
are available. However, the recommendation is to use the embedded GPS as a default.
The NAV type is dependent on the FMS and/or GPS that the system is interfaced with. It is critical
that the following data be available for operation of the system:
(2) Speed.
If required, the system can be interfaced with more than one ARINC 429 bus to provide the required
data.
Options include: INERTIAL, GNSS, HYBRID, AHRS, FMS. Specific labels supported are included
in section 2. Note pitch and roll are not required for the LGA or Active LGA used on the AeroWave™
100 system so AHRS is not used. The default setting for the Active LGA System is GNSS, for the
LGA system it's usually HYBRID.
NOTE: There is generally more than one label for a particular type ARINC data. For operation, at
least one label in each data category is required.
NOTE: If wanting to connect to the Garmin G1000, it may be necessary to use an alternate ARINC
429 output to make all required labels available - in particular we have found it necessary
to configure an output as "Transponder" in some cases to obtain a Track label. Without
Track the system will operate on the ground but once moving it will not be able to perform
the required Doppler calculation and the system will stop working.
(1) Connect to the HDU maintenance port - refer to Connecting to the BendixKing AeroWave™
100 Maintenance Port.

TROUBLESHOOTING
1. General
This chapter provides information and procedures to help users diagnose and repair common problems.
NOTE: If you have a computer connected to the internet, BendixKing product support engineers can help
troubleshoot your terminal using a remote desktop application.
• Valid APN.
The BendixKing AeroWave™ 100 MPU can display EEPROM parameters, including the APN.
B. APN Troubleshooting
The APN should be set to the value provided by the service provider. For BendixKing AeroWave™
service this is typically SATCOM1.BGAN.INMARSAT.COM.
If not using the BendixKing AeroWave™ Inmarsat service, check with your service provider for the
appropriate APN and credentials.
NOTE: Depending on your service provider you may or may not be required to include credentials
to log on to the network. For the AeroWave™ service, you will need to use the following:
username “VOID” and password “void” (case sensitive). These credentials are entered in
the router.
C. System Activation

D. Installation Verification
When performing operational verification you should have a wireless router configured. Log into the
router and watch the status page to verify that the router is attempting to establish a PPPoE
connection to the AeroWave™ 100 system. Alternatively, you can use a Windows system as
described in Paragraphs 2.A. and 2.B. in the SYSTEM SETUP section.
NOTE: Reports can be toggled on or off by selecting the appropriate report number. Reports
can also be saved using “S” so they are persistent after a reboot.
System Configuration Strapping Report provides an indication that the proper straps are
installed as shown in Figure 4-1 for the LGA System and in Figure 4-2 for the Active LGA
System. On the AeroWave™ 100 LGA system these should be set to Omni Directional
Antenna (LGA, SBB CLASS 15) and Small SATCOM operation. On the AeroWave™
100 Active LGA system these should be set to AeroWave™ Active Antenna (LGA, SBB
Class 15) and Small SATCOM operation.
The VT100 Scenario Report (69) provides a real-time update of the system and allows
quick verification of NAV data (Lat/Lon/Speed/etc…) as well as the actual system status.
An example screenshot with the system up and operational connected to the internet via
a PPPoE session is included here:

Once the system has a valid location it will provide the LOOK ANGLE to the satellite –
in this case it is 34.4 degrees. Be certain you have an unblocked view of the sky at the
angle shown above the horizon in the direction of the satellite.
The C/N0 value is the Carrier-to-Noise level and it should typically be 55 or higher (in
this case 62.1). A low value will prohibit the system from operating.
The SIG dB value is the RF signal level and it is typically -50 dB or higher – in this case
-37 (a stronger signal).
The STAT value shows the system Call status – if it shows bgan, the system is up and
connected to the internet.
THA Codes are network diagnostic messages that might provide an indication of a
problem if the system is not operational.
Equipment logs can be helpful in determining what is happening if a call will not connect.
Accessing these logs is described in Paragraph 4.
Logs of interest include Event Logs, Call Logs, and THA Logs.
Often looking at the initial few entries will provide some hints.
The sample logs in Figure 6-1 show typical problems and how they are reported.
