I. Introduction (Time Frame: _15 minutes____)
Special Right triangles consists of the isosceles right triangle or the 45˚-45˚-90˚ triangle and the 30˚-60˚-90˚ triangle.
In this lesson we will be analyzing the relationship of the special right triangles and the six trigonometric ratios to come up with
trigonometric ratios of special angles.

Now that we know the special right triangle, let’s recall the six trigonometric ratios.

The Six Trigonometric Ratios

Primary Trigonometric Ratios Secondary Trigonometric Ratios

(SOH) Sine θ or sin θ = Cosecant θ or csc θ =
𝐇ypotenuse Opposite

𝐀djacent Hypotenuse

(TOA) Tangent θ or tan θ = Cotangent θ or cot θ =
𝐀djacent Opposite

Remember that the symbol “θ” or also called as “theta” can be any of the two angles in a given triangle except the right angle
or the 90˚ angle.

D. Development (Time Frame: ____30 minutes___)

In Geometry, the following sides of special right triangles are related as follows:

45° – 45° – 90° Right Triangle Theorem In a 45° – 45° – 90° 30° – 60° – 90° Right Triangle Theorem In a 30° – 60° – 90°
triangle, triangle,

✔ the legs are congruent ✔ the length of the hypotenuse is twice the length of the
shorter leg
✔ the length of the hypotenuse is √2 times the length of
a leg ✔ the length of the longer leg is √3 times the length of the
shorter leg
hypotenuse = √2 times the leg
hypotenuse = 2 times the shorter leg

longer leg = √3 times the shorter leg
