CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Tourism is travel for pleasure or business, and the commercial activity of providing and
supporting such travel. The World Tourism Organization defines tourism more generally, in
terms which go "beyond the common perception of tourism as being limited to holiday activity
only", as people "travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more
than one consecutive year for leisure and not less than 24 hours, business and other
purposes". Tourism can be domestic (within the traveller's own country) or international, and
international tourism has both incoming and outgoing implications on a country's balance of
payments. Tourism numbers declined as a result of a strong economic slowdown (the late-2000s
recession) between the second half of 2008 and the end of 2009, and in consequence of the
outbreak of the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus, but slowly recovered until the COVID-19
pandemic put an abrupt end to the growth. The United Nations World Tourism
Organization estimated that global international tourist arrivals might decrease by 58% to 78% in
2020, leading to a potential loss of US$0.9–1.2 trillion in international tourism receipts. Tourism
has reached new dimensions with the emerging industry of space tourism as well as the current
industry with cruise ships, there are many different ways of tourism. Another potential new
tourism industry is virtual tourism.
To make tourism process smooth travel agencies have been introduced to the tourists all among
the world A travel agency is a private retailer or public service that provides travel and tourism-
related services to the general public on behalf of accommodation or travel suppliers to offer
different kinds of travelling packages for each destination. Travel agencies can provide outdoor
recreation, arranging logistics for luggage and medical items delivery for travellers upon
request, public transport timetables, car rentals, and bureau de change services. Travel agencies
can also serve as general sales agents for airlines that do not have offices in a specific region. A
travel agency's main function is to act as an agent, selling travel products and services on behalf
of a supplier. They are also called Travel Advisors. They do not keep inventory in-hand unless
they have pre-booked hotel rooms or cabins on a cruise ship for a group travel event such as
a wedding, honeymoon, or other group event. Travel agencies often receive commissions and
other benefits and incentives from providers or may charge a fee to the end users Hotel owners
and tour operators typically pay a higher commission rate to travel agencies, whereas airlines
typically pay a low commission. The customer is normally not made aware of how much the
travel agent is earning in commissions and other benefits. A 2016 survey of 1,193 travel agents
in the United States found that on average 78% of their revenue was from commissions and 22%
was generated from fees .
A travel agent is a person who has full knowledge of tourist product – destinations, modes of
travel, climate, accommodation, and other areas of the service sector. He acts on the behalf of
product providers/principles and in return gets a commission. Technically, a travel agent is
an owner or manager of an agency, but other employees are responsible for advising tourists and
selling packages tours/individual components of travel products. A travel agent may be an
individual /firm or corporation which is commonly known as a travel agency. An agency means
the office of travel agent or organization where all travel goods and services are assembled and
coordinated for the smooth conduct of travel agency business.
Travel agency is one of the most important organizations in the tourism private sector which
plays a significant and crucial role in the entire process of developing and promoting tourism in
the country or at a destination. It is a travel agency which packages and processes all the
attractions, accesses, amenities and ancillary services of a country and present them to tourists.
That’s why travel agency is known as ‘image builder' of a country.
A prospective travel agency is one which makes arrangements of travel tickets (air, rail, road,
and sea); travel documents (passports, visa and other documents required to travel);
accommodation, entertainment, and other travel-related services from principle suppliers. It may
also secure travel insurance, foreign currency for traveling people.

from, station.Tourism has turned out to be an economic booster contributing to the economicdeve
lopment of many countries over the last few decades. People see holidays asa necessity, and not
as luxury in the present scenario. Tourism calls forcoordination and cooperation between travel a
gents, tour operators, and tourists.Tourism has a few major elements − destinations, attractions, s
ites, accommodationaccommodation, and all ancillary services. The need for a robust and dynami
c tourmanagement application has been around since the advent of the tourism concept. Thus we
have developed an application to provide the best travelling services tothe customers and travel a
gents. The Tourism Management System provides asearch platform where a tourist can find their
tour places according to their choices. This system also helps to promote responsible and interesti
ng tourism so thatpeople can enjoy their holidays at their favorable places and develop tourism w
ithdifferent cultures so that they enrich the tourism experience and build pride. The Tourism Man
agement System is a web based application. The objective of thisproject is to develop a system th
at automates the processes and activities of atravel agency. It is tedious for a customer to plan a p
articular journey and have itexecuted properly. This project is developed to replace the currently
existingsystem, which helps in keeping records of the customer details of destination aswell as p
ayment received. The proposed system is highly automated and makesthe travelling activities mu
ch easier and flexible. The users can get the very rightinformation at the very right time. This will
increase the trust of the customer intothe tourism company as well. This project is designed with
SQL Server as back end. All the data will be storedin the server and in case of any data losing sit
uation, a backup will be available bythis server. The details related to every aspect of the tourist
will be availableseparately. The admins just have to click once and all the details will be availabl
eto them.
Objectives
This application is develop to provide best travelling services to the customers and travel agents.
We have developed tours and travel management system to provide a search platform where a
tourist can find their tour places according to their choices. This system also helps to promote
responsible and interesting tourism so that people can enjoy their holidays at their favorable
places. This system also helps to develop tourism with different cultures so that they enrich the
tourism experience and build pride. We develop this system to create and promote forms of
tourism that provide healthy interaction opportunities for tourists and locals and increase better
understanding of different cultures, customs, lifestyles, traditional knowledge and believes. This
system also provide a better way to connect with various events.
This system also gives tours related information like which places are tourist attractions, cities,
and provinces. Tourist can also get the Map and navigation system and temperature and weather

the pick-up facilities and the drop facilities are also maintained if any.
After analyzing the requirements of the task to be performed, the next step is to analyze the
problem and understand its context. The first activity in the phase is studying the existing system
and other is to understand the requirements and domain of the new system. Both the activities are
equally important, but the first activity serves as a basis of giving the functional specifications
and then successful design of the proposed system. Understanding the properties and
requirements of a new system is more difficult and requires creative thinking and understanding
of existing running system is also difficult, improper understanding of present system can lead
diversion from solution.
ANALYSIS MODEL
SDLC METHDOLOGIES
This document play a vital role in the development of life cycle (SDLC) as it describes the
complete requirement of the system. It means for use by developers and will be the basic during
testing phase. Any changes made to the requirements in the future will have to go through
formal change approval process.
Spiral model was defined by Barry Boehm in his 1988 article, “A spiral Model of Software
Development and Enhancement. This model was not the first model to discuss iterative
development, but it was the first model to explain why the iteration models.
As originally envisioned, the iterations were typically 6 months to 2 years long. Each phase
starts with a design goal and ends with a client reviewing the progress thus far. Analysis and
engineering efforts are applied at each phase of the project, with an eye toward the end goal of
the project.
The steps for Spiral Model can be generalized as follows:
The new system requirements are defined in as much details as possible. This usually involves
interviewing a number of users representing all the external or internal users and other aspects of the
existing system.
A preliminary design is created for the new system.
irst prototype of the new system is constructed from the preliminary design. This is usually a scaled-down
tem, and represents an approximation of the characteristics of the final product. A second prototype is evolved
a fourfold procedure:
first prototype in terms of its strengths, weakness, and risks.
equirements of the second prototype.
signing the second prototype.
nd testing the second prototype.
customer option, the entire project can be aborted if the risk is deemed too great. Risk factors might involved
pment cost overruns, operating-cost miscalculation, or any other factor that could, in the customer’s judgment,
n a less-than-satisfactory final product.
isting prototype is evaluated in the same manner as was the previous prototype, and if necessary, another
pe is developed from it according to the fourfold procedure outlined above.
The preceding steps are iterated until the customer is satisfied that the refined prototype represents the final
product desired.
The final system is constructed, based on the refined prototype.
The final system is thoroughly evaluated and tested. Routine maintenance is carried on a continuing basis
to prevent large scale failures and to minimize down time.
The administrative user interface concentrates on the consistent information that is practically,
part of the organizational activities and which needs proper authentication for the data collection.
The interfaces help the administrations with all the transactional states like Data insertion, Data
deletion and Data updating along with the extensive data search capabilities.
The operational or generic user interface helps the users upon the system in transactions through
the existing data and required services. The operational user interface also helps the ordinary
users in managing their own information helps the ordinary users in managing their own
information in a customized manner as per the assisted flexibilities
NUMBER OF MODULES
The system after careful analysis has been identified to be presented with the following modules:
The Modules involved are
1. Administrator
2. Company Employees
3. Visa Processing
4. Country Information
5. Travelling
6. Reports
7. Authentication
Administration
Administration is the chief of the Voyage Management. He can have all the privileges to do
anything in this system. Administrator can register new employees, departments into the system.
Admin can keep track team employees and their performance. He can find the vacancy position
other countries called as outsourcing. Administrator is only having the authority to select
employees to send for outsourcing. He can provide necessary arrangements to the employees
who are going for outsourcing.
Company Employees
Employees are working for the company in this country or outsource to other country.
Whenever an employee wants to go for outsourcing he needs to provide his complete documents
like education qualifications, passport, identification details etc. After completion of visa
processing he can move from here to destination country. Before going to outsourcing he knows
the details of his work location, work environment, technologies etc... If he doesn’t have any
passport, he can provide necessary documents for applying the passport.
Visa Processing
The major issue starts here, because the company must provide a visa to the employees which
are going for outsourcing. The visa processing is different dependents upon various countries.
For every visa processing the company must provide employee complete information like
passport details, work location, work permission, no of days, work type, salary details,
experience of the employee etc. whenever the visa processing is complete then only the
employee is ready to went for other countries.
Travelling
While going to the other countries the system provides the complete information of mode of
travelling also. The major part goes to flight information, which country he is going, is there any
direct flight is there, ticket conformed or not, executive or economy class, and seat details. After
that the system provide vehicle from airport to his accommodation hotel room also.
Country Information
Before going to outsourcing an employee must know the details of the country which want to
work there. This system provides maximum information to the employees which country they
need to go. The major information goes to food habits, hotel details, vehicles transportation,
office environment, office timings, currency details etc.
System Requirement Specifications
Hardware Requirements:
Software Requirements:
WINDOWS OS (XP / 2000 / 200 Server / 2003 Server)
We all know the importance of computerization. The world is moving ahead at lightning speed
and everyone is running short of time. One always wants to get the information and perform a
task he/she/they desire(s) within a short period of time and too with amount of efficiency and
accuracy. The application areas for the computerization have been selected on the basis of
following factors:
Minimizing the manual records kept at different locations.
There will be more data integrity.
Facilitating desired information display, very quickly, by retrieving information from users.
Facilitating various statistical information which helps in decision-making?
To reduce manual efforts in activities that involved repetitive work.
Updating and deletion of such a huge amount of data will become easier.

CONCLUSION
Tourism is currently recognized as a global industry which is growing at a high ratelike any othe
r industry. Access to relevant and accurate information is at the heartof tourism. Here, the propos
ed project on Tourism Management System tries tobridge the gap by noting what a tourist percei
ves as relevant. Hence, the aim ofthis project entails the design and implementation of a platform
that will assisttourists in gaining access to travel to various tourist locations. The project alsohelp
ed to provide knowledge about the latest technology used in developing webenabled application
and client server technology that will be great demand infuture. It is worth mentioning that this pr
oject work is open for further enhancement, withthe expectation that it becomes more robust and
better enhanced; covering everysingle tourist sites. For a modified system, the user need to just l
