ABSTRACT
This mini project report describes Design building 4 floor each floor having 2 flat.
The most important function of a floor is that throughout its life time, it should
safely support the loads placed on it, together with its own weight. They provide a
way to visualize how people will move through the space. Floor plans makes it
easier to check if the space is suitable for its intended purpose, work through any
potential challenges and redesign before moving forward into more elaborate
planning or building stages. The electrical plan helps to ensure that the electrical
system runs safely and smoothly. While it is important for building any home, it is
essential when building a double-story. To build a double-story, a slab of concrete
is thrown to create the floor of the top level. The electrical system design solves
challenges which are related to design and development to ensure that they are
economical, safe and reliable. This also includes electrical layouts, lighting,
earthing and voltage drop. Engineers use design for production, transportation and
distribution of the electricity. The results of the whole analysis and design was
illustrated with AutoCAD application. This work gives a direct approach from
design of the electrical services to the installation stage. The results of the
calculations in the design helps the designer to make vital decisions such as types
of luminaries, sizes of cables and nominal ratings of protective devices required by
each circuit and by the entire installation in line with appropriate standards and
regulations.

BACKGROUND
A concept is an idea, a theory or notion. In architecture, concepts provide a direction or approach
to the design. Architectural concepts are the backbone of the overall design. It brings the design
together by creating a cohesive story. Building design refers to the broadly based architectural,
engineering and technical applications to the design of buildings. All building projects require
the services of a building designer, typically a licensed architect. Every electrical installation be
it residential, commercial or industrial buildings is preceded by a careful plan or design. Designs
for building installations involves various calculations based on several factors which includes;
type of building, purpose of building, physical building parameters. There are several Standards
and regulatory bodies such as the IEE (Institute of Electrical Engineers) and many more that
regulate the electrical service design. Electrical design is the process that involves planning,
creating, testing, and installation of electrical equipment in accordance with the approved
regulations, the design includes lighting layout, power layout, power distribution layout, fire
prevention layout systems, public address system and close circuit TV layout and voice and data
communications layout design). The important area covered in this report are Lighting layout
design, Power layout design, Cables sizing, Protection system design. Electricity exists in a form
that is useful to exploit, however, it will also be important to install electricity as efficiently as
possible, and design of the power distribution system should be convenient so as to reduce power
losses and voltage drops. Every building or part of building apartment illumination level varies
in terms of illumination level, number of socket outlets, accessories and electrical appliance. The
illumination level of each portion is different depending on the purpose it is really meant for.
Many factors were put into consideration during the design. Some of these include safety,
durability, flexibility of installation, and cost of installation.

An electrical distribution system is the equipment that distribute all load to final
sub-circuit in an electrical installation. It includes the main switchboard, which
receives the power source from the serving utility, and all the associated
components such as panel boards that distribute all the required branch circuits
throughout the facility. Part of the process of designing the distribution system is to
quantify the total load which helps in load balancing and appropriate selection of
the approved distribution board, these calculations shows the total electrical
demand requirements of the facility.

From the calculation, we got that the transformer rating is 150 KVA, Generator
Rating 40 KVA, PFI (Power Fatctor Improvement) plant rating 90KVAR, Now, In
design, we are using 150 KVA transformer, 40KVA generator and approximately
we use 100KVAR PFI plant on the behalf of 90KVAR. We received the 11 KV
line power supply from DPDC, Then we use 11KV POLE MOUNTED
LIGHTING ARRESTER for the safety of the house from unwanted thunder. After
that we use DPDC check meter to check the power supply, then using transformer
we pass the power supply to the 700 ATP N-E C-U BUS. From the busbar power
goes into Ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor, 4th floor & 5th or rooftop. In
every floor we have 2 units so connection will go every units Distribution board
(DB), Then we are using generator for emergency loads when we got load-
shedding or any power supply Crisis. In emergency load we are useing emergency
light & fan, Colling bell, lift, water pump & (stair+ground floor+rooftop) load, So
by calculating all emergency loads we got the generation rating 40KVA that's why
we are using 40KVA rating generator. From generator the power goes to the Sub
Distribution Board (SUB-GEN), we are using some protection system between the
generator to SUB-GEN. Now, from SUB-GEN the power will serve in all the units
Distribution Boards, All floors stairs, rooftop load, lift & water pump.
For fire alarm system, we are using a computer & printer for monitoring &
detecting where is the fire smoke. We are using here 1×3C×1.5sqmm fire
resistance cable (LSF- H TYPE). We divided the fire alarm control in different
zone. Ground & basement is in zone 1, 1st 2nd & 3rd floor is in zone 2 & 4th floor
is in zone 3. We have 3 extra zone for reserve, when we need another floor under
zone then we can use those. In every Zone we use MC, FA & SD.
For Lightning protection, we use lightning arrester. Lightning arrester rods, surge
arresters, or lightning conductors are metal rods installed on a building for
lightning protection. They protect structures or substations from the travelling
5
waves of lightning and divert the abnormally high voltage to the ground. They are
made from copper and brass alloy which are good conductors of electricity and has
very high ground coverage (up to 60 meters.) A lightning arrester generally has
three parts:
First Part- A rod of about 3ft in length and 12 to 16 mm in diameter.
Second Part – A spiked ball/receiver which makes it easy to attach one end of the
rod.
Third part – A copper-coated brass plate that is screwed to the ground and on
which the rod is easily fitted.

Future scope for AutoCAD : Auto Cad is very valuable tool in the
field of mechanical as well as electrical. Auto-Cad designing is useful in panel
designing wiring diagram design breaker design etc. you can easily get post of a
draftsman in any of the electrical company’s research and development
department. So you have a scope of better future when you apply for companies of
designing. The AutoCAD electrical software increases productivity levels by up to
80% when compared to the traditional methods of 2D drafting. The sound
knowledge of the software can enable the electrical engineers to exploit the surplus
availability of specially developed electrical drafting tools to enhance productive.
Future scope for Engineering drawing and Electrical wiring : Electrical
engineers are vital to the energy sector, from projecting power demand and
maintaining power station generators to isolating potential dangers. Knowledge of
AutoCAD is a prerequisite for electrical engineers as the software is used to make
and modify electrical and electronic diagrams, schematics, control circuit
diagrams, and documentation.

In this paper, at first we design Basic view. After that indicate room. Bedroom,
Reading Room, washroom, dining room, drawing room, kitchen, stair, entrance.
After wards warning for low load, power load. Then Calculated load calculation.,
the lumen method was used for the lighting layout design and the power layout
was achieved by using the laid down standard table for power as specified by IEE
regulation. Appropriate ratings of protective devices are put in place and there is
adequate provision for future expansion. The results of the calculations in the
design helps to make vital decisions such as types of luminaries, sizes of cables
and nominal ratings of protective devices required by each circuit and by the entire
installation in line with appropriate standards and regulations, with this design, it is
evident that the proposed building will be safe from electric fire outbreak. All
cables presented to be used were calculated to the specified standard in accordance
to IEE regulations and other regulated bodies. The electricity Standards and
regulatory bodies should enact a law that will make all builders to provide an
approved standard electrical service drawing before any electrical installation must
be carried out.
