DESIGN PROBLEM

The Western Visayas region's coastal city - Bacolod City is highly urbanized,
yet it still lacks an easily accessible site location. The old airport had a lot of issues
because of the limitations of the old site. One issue is that it is not in an accessible or
sustainable place, which has an impact on how the site develops. Another big
problem that Bacolod City faces is improper drainage, which causes flooding,
especially in SM Bacolod City. Moreover, the city has been significantly impacted by
how terrible the poor traffic flow issue has gotten. Last but not least, people in
Bacolod City do not like going to the same malls every day.

DESIGN STRATEGY
Passive Sustainable Design.

We designed KASADYA Shopping Center in Bacolod City, to exist in harmony

with nature. It’s a beautifully executed, festive, warm, and interactive facility that
serves to increase community wellness and awareness of the arts and appreciate
Filipino culture as predicted in the details of the project.
Passive strategies, such as considering sun orientation and climate when
siting and being thoughtful about window placement and operation, are used to best
manage daylighting and natural ventilation by providing wide courtyards and go a
long way in reducing energy requirements for the building.
Solar panel arrays and high-efficiency LED lighting help to reduce energy
consumption, while low-flow water fixtures reduce water usage and tie into the
educational component of the project.
Landscape Design.
With regards to landscaping, it enhances the physical and psychological well-
being of city dwellers. We installed several benches to provide a cozy spot to sit
while appreciating the surroundings, but they can also be beneficial in a variety of
other ways. Many trees also offer shelter from the weather and even aid in healing.
A fountain that animates the outside space with music and movement was also
added.
Courtyard.
Due to the natural ventilation that occurs through the windows that face the
courtyard, it has been discovered that the presence of one is very beneficial in
lowering both the indoor air temperature and humidity. The walls that separate
them are shaded by a courtyard, which also serves as a heat sink by cooling the air.

Sustainable Building Materials.

Harvesting sustainable materials produce significantly less trash than other
types of materials, such as plastics, which reduces garbage sent to landfills, energy
use, and environmental impact. Also, utilizing sustainable materials can help
structures and facilities consume less energy. One of the materials we used is timber,
which is frequently regarded as the most environmentally friendly building material
in the construction sector. It can be used to boost a project's environmental
credentials because it has a small embodied carbon impact.

DESIGN SOLUTION
Accessible and sustainable infrastructure will be developed with proper
planning, landscaping, orientation, traffic flows, and drainage systems. We built a
high-rise structure to prevent flooding in the city due to flooding. Additionally, we
put in place suitable drainage to lessen the possibility of flooding, which in turn
lessens the possibility that the area may flood. We designed a proper circulation of
traffic routes and a road plan to promote accessibility and traffic enforcement while
assisting in reducing the city's traffic issues. Finally, our building's facade can be seen
clearly from the street and contributes significantly to the area's amenities and
appeal. Therefore, it is important to create facades with an appealing scale, look,
rhythm, solid-to-void connection, and materiality.
