A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the circulatory, respiratory, and excretory system for energy.
B. Performance Standards The learners should be to present an analysis of the data gathered on diseases resulting from nutrient deficiency.
C. Learning The learners should be able to explain ingestion, absorption, assimilation, and excretion (S8LT-Iva-13).

Objectives 1. describe the processes carried out by the digestive system;
2. describe the coordinated functions of the organs of the digestive system; and
3. trace the path of the food as it enters the human body.

• Food plays a central role in the survival of species. Food gives organisms energy that enables them to carry
out many activities they do each day. Organisms can obtain energy from the foods they eat through digestion.

lesson A. Let’s have our first one. C. What do you think is this? Demonstration of Objective 8: (ICT)
The journey of the food starts from the mouth down to the anus takes about 18-20 hours. First, can anyone volunteer to
please read the first process.
A. Ingestion- is the first process that happens in the digestive system. It is the journey of taking in food or any
substance into the body through the mouth.
Let’s have the representative per group to discuss their collaboration in front.
Mouth- is where the digestion begins, in the mouth the food is mechanically and chemically digested. The
mouth contains the following structures. The teeth which break down the food into smaller pieces. The
tongue a muscular organ that mixes the food with saliva aids in swallowing. The duct of salivary glands that
secretes saliva that lubricate the food and the palate that forms the rooting of the mouth.
Esophagus- receives food from the mouth. Epiglottis is a small flap that folds over your windpipe as you swallow to prevent
you from choking. A series of muscular contractions within the esophagus called peristalsis delivers food to our stomach.
Stomach- is an expanding organ located between the esophagus and small intestine. The stomach stores the food and
mixes the food with gastric juice. The stomach is a pear-shaped organ that is about 30.5cm long and 15.2 wide, the bolus
enters the stomach and will convert to semi-fluid partially digested food, what we called chyme.
Let the students point it out the mouth, esophagus, and the stomach in the human torso.
E. Discussing new Small Intestine- is considered as the organ of complete digestion and absorption, it is considered as the
concepts and practicing longest organ of the digestive system. Made up of three segments- the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum, the Demonstration of Objective 6 and 8.
new skills #2 small intestine is a 23-foot-long muscular tube that breaks down food using enzymes released by the pancreas
and bile from the liver.
The chyme enters the small intestines through the pyloric sphincter, the small intestine signals the pancreas
to produce pancreatic juice, and the gall bladder to release bile. Pancreatic juices aid in the digestion of
protein and carbohydrates and the bile is responsible to break down fats.
What organ produces the bile? What organ stores the bile? After passing through the small intestine, the food
enters the?
Large Intestine- the large intestine or colon, is responsible for processing waste so that emptying the bowels is
easy and convenient. It is about 5-feet-long, muscular tube that connects the small intestine to the rectum.
The main function of the colon is to absorb water from the undigested food materials that it receives from the
small intestine.
The appendix is also located in the proximal end of the ascending colon. The undigested residue or the feces
(stool), it will be stored in the rectum and excrete to the anus.
In summary class, the digestive system is composed of the? What are the accessory organ of digestion? How
about their function?
F. Developing mastery Identify what is ask in the following statements: Demonstration of Objective 9.
1. The organ that stores and concentrate the bile.
2. The organ of complete absorption and digestion.
3. Where the fecal material exit?
4. The organ produces the bile.
5. It is where the absorption of water takes place.
6. The enzyme that is present in the saliva.
7. The organ that is responsible for processing waste so that emptying the bowels is easy and convenient.
8. The process of breaking down the food into simple that the cell can use.
9. The organ that temporarily stored the feces.
10. Wavelike contraction or rhythmic movement of the involuntary muscle.
G. Finding practical applications of
concepts and skills in daily living
Importance of the digestive system
The digestive system breaks down food into nutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. They can then
be absorbed into the bloodstream so the body can use them for energy, growth, and repair.
