Transforming Dreams into Reality: An Engineering Student's Journey

By: Gabito, Michelle
It would be an amazing journey to
discover your true passion and follow it. Hi,
I‘m Mitch-a young adult trying to figure out
the path that I want to take in life. I am a
woman of integrity and I strive to be the best
version of myself. I believe in the power of
kindness and I am always looking for ways to
be a better person. I hope to continue to make
a positive impact on the lives of those around
me. I have a lot of dreams and aspirations, but
I'm still in a state of confusion as to what and
how to pursue them. The journey toward
achieving one's dream is a long, hard road
filled with obstacles and challenges. It requires immense dedication, passion, and
resilience to see it through. As a young adult wanting to achieve a life that is full of
joy and contentment, let me share with you the things how my decisions make my
nineteen years here in earth more interesting.
My parents named me Michelle Rano Gabito. Cecel is what my relatives call
me and Mitch is a nickname that I have in school. I was raised and born in the
province of South Cotabato, Municipality of Tupi Baranggay Crossing Rubber. My
parents raise me with a simple and happy life. My parents provide the love, guidance,
and structure needed for me to thrive. They create a safe and nurturing environment
for me to grow and develop and teach me the importance of having good values and
morals. They help me understand that life is not about having the most expensive
things, but rather it is about being content with what you have and being thankful for
what you do have
In life, it is not just about continuous happiness, there would always be
challenges. Despite having a simple and happy life, my parents struggled with my
health. My elementary years are not complete without me being hospitalized. But that
didn't stop me to move forward and enjoy being a kid as well as a student. My
elementary years are filled with lots of exciting opportunities, creative exploration,
and plenty of time to play and make new friends. I remember when I was an
elementary student most of my classmates want to become adults real quick for adults
have more freedom and independence. We did not think that being an adult comes
with more responsibilities and stress. As an adult, life can be more serious and
responsibilities can be overwhelming, but it's important to remember the joys of
childhood and find ways to make life a little more fun. There's no need to rush
growing up and it's possible to enjoy the best of both worlds – being an adult and a
kid.
High school was a challenging time for me as I ‗am thrust into a new world of
responsibility, expectations, and experiences. It was a roller coaster of emotions, from
the excitement of joining a new school and making friends to the fear of not fitting in
or meeting expectations. During those times, I learn to deal with reality and the
struggles that come along with it. I learn to accept responsibility for my own decisions
and actions and to understand the consequences of my choices. South East Asian
Institute of Technology Inc. took a big part of my high school memories. I was able to
meet different people with different cultures, attitudes, and perspectives. I was also
able to experience new things like traveling far away, having fun, and enjoying
myself while struggling. The people behind my high school life help me survive and
created memories that I will cherish forever. They were the ones who really help me
be a better version of myself. Indeed, high school opens my mind to the reality of life
which helps me to understand myself and the world around me. High school is a
crucial part of life that can help us to grow, explore, and succeed.
I‘m currently a first-year college student- trying hard to balance my academic
and personal lives, to stay motivated, and organized. Choosing a course in college is
an incredibly daunting decision. There are so many options and it is difficult for me to
narrow down the choices and make the best decision. But after some thinking, I end
up in front of the registrar office enrolling for a Bachelor of Science in Civil
Engineering even though Mathematics is a subject that I'm having a hard time with.
Funny as it may be but as I grew older, I got a lot of dreams and civil engineering was
not part of it. Not until I needed to decide what course I should take. I took the chance
of taking the entrance exam and taking into consideration that South East Asian
Institute of Technology Inc. was known for its excellence, especially in terms of
developing aspiring Civil Engineers. For the past months as a first-year civil
engineering student, I got attached to my course and slowly liking my course. I am
now drawn to civil engineering because of its potential for making an impact on
society. As a civil engineer, I will have the opportunity to create projects that have a
lasting impact on people‘s lives and the environment. I am excited to be able to use
my skills and knowledge to improve the world and make it a better place.
One of the greatest struggles of my college experience so far is the fear of
failure. The fear of not being able to achieve your dream can be crippling. Difficulty
to stay focused and motivated when doubts and insecurities cloud the mind. At first, I
was hesitant to take steps forward because I was scared to fail. I thought it would be
too difficult and that I wouldn't be able to handle the pressure. But after some
soulsearching, I realized that I needed to take the risk if I wanted to make my dream
come true. I always remind myself that failure is not the end, but rather a part of the
learning process. Being a civil engineering student can be difficult because it requires
a lot of hard work, dedication, and commitment .I know that it will be a challenge but
I'm willing to take it on. I'm not sure what the future has in store for me but I'm sure
that if I persevere, I will be able to succeed. I'm determined to make the most of this
opportunity and I'm sure that I can make a positive change. I'm excited to see what I
can achieve and I'm confident that I can make a difference. I'm ready to take my place
in the engineering world and make a lasting impact. I am determined to make my
dreams come true and I will do whatever it takes to make them happen.

Exploring the World of Transportation Engineering

By: Gabito, Michelle
Engineering is a broad term that encompasses many different disciplines, but
all of these disciplines are connected by a common goal: to provide solutions to
problems. Transportation engineering is an important field of engineering that focuses
on the design and construction of transportation systems and infrastructure. This
includes roads, bridges, railways, airports and other public transportation systems.
Transportation engineering is an important field that helps to ensure the safety and
efficiency of transportation systems. With the world‘s population growing, the need
for reliable and safe transportation systems is essential. Transportation engineers play
an important role in the development of these systems and in the future of our
transportation infrastructure.
Transportation engineers plan, design, operate and maintain transportation
systems, including roads, highways, bridges, airports and public transit systems. They
use their knowledge of civil engineering, geography and mathematics to ensure
efficient and safe transportation systems. They also work to reduce traffic congestion
and develop plans for the efficient use of existing transportation systems.
Additionally, they may work on projects to improve public transportation, increase
pedestrian and bicycle safety, or reduce emissions from transportation sources.
Transportation engineers must understand the needs of the people and businesses that
rely on the transportation system. They must be able to develop plans that meet the
needs of the people, while also taking into account environmental, economic and
safety considerations. To do this, they must be aware of the laws, regulations and
policies that govern the transportation system. They must also be familiar with the
construction and maintenance of transportation systems, and be able to work closely
with other professionals and stakeholders, including architects, urban planners and
public officials. Transportation engineers must also consider how technology can be
used to improve transportation systems. They must be familiar with the latest
technology and be able to use it to develop plans that reduce traffic congestion and
improve safety. They must also be able to develop plans that use technology to
improve the efficiency of existing transportation systems, such as using sensors to
monitor traffic flow and using real-time data to adjust traffic signals.
Transportation engineering has been at the forefront of progress for centuries.
From the invention of the wheel to the development of the car, the progress of
transportation engineering has allowed for an easier way for people to get around. It
has also allowed for increased trade and commerce, allowing goods to be transported
from one area to another with relative ease. It has also had a major impact on public
safety. By making roads safer, it allows for people to travel more easily, reducing the
risk of accidents and other hazards. The development of traffic lights, street signs, and
other traffic control measures have also improved the safety of roads, making it easier
for people to get around without putting themselves or others at risk. Transportation
engineering has also been instrumental in the development of the environment. For
example, the development of public transportation systems has allowed for the
reduction of emissions, which has helped to make the air cleaner and reduce air
pollution. This in turn has allowed for improved public health, as well as the
preservation of natural resources. Transportation engineering has also allowed for the
development of other industries. For example, the increased mobility provided by the
development of transportation engineering has allowed for the growth of the tourism
industry, as people can now more easily visit different places. This has allowed for
the creation of jobs and business opportunities, as well as increased economic growth.
In summary, transportation engineering has been at the forefront of progress for
centuries.
In summary, transportation engineering is important to our society as it
enables the efficient movement of people and goods. This can be seen in our roads,
which are designed to move large volumes of vehicles quickly and safely, and our
public transportation systems, which provide an alternative to the private car.
Transportation engineering also plays a role in reducing traffic congestion, decreasing
travel time, and improving air quality by encouraging the use of alternative modes of
transportation such as walking, biking, and public transit. In addition, transportation
engineering helps to create jobs and boost economic development by providing
transportation infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, for businesses to use. By
making transportation systems more efficient, transportation engineering helps to
improve the quality of life for citizens and make our cities and towns more livable.

Navigating Through Uncertainty: Exploring Career Opportunities

The field of civil engineering is vast, and it is essential to stay up to date on
the latest developments and technologies. It is also important to understand the
various principles and theories that are associated with civil engineering. This
requires a great deal of time and effort, as civil engineering is a very complex field.
To be successful as a civil engineering student, it is necessary to have a strong
foundation in mathematics, physics, and engineering. In addition to having a strong
academic background, civil engineering students must also be able to think critically
and solve problems. As the field of civil engineering is ever-evolving, students must
be able to quickly adapt and come up with innovative solutions to address complex
problems. This requires a lot of creativity and critical thinking. Being a civil
engineering student is not for the faint of heart. It is a highly demanding field, and it
requires a great deal of dedication and hard work in order to be successful. However,
for those who are willing to put in the effort, the rewards can be great. Civil
engineering students can be part of a team that helps to shape the future of our
society.
I chose civil engineering because I have always been fascinated by the idea of
creating a safe and efficient infrastructure that will benefit people and communities. I
am also interested in how civil engineering projects interact with the natural
environment and how they can be used to make the world more sustainable. The
major appeal of civil engineering is its versatility. Civil engineers work on a variety of
projects, from building bridges and roads to designing water and sewage systems.
Civil engineers must be creative in their thinking and come up with innovative
solutions to difficult problems. I am eager to learn and apply new techniques to design
projects that are both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
When I become a civil engineer, my preferred job would be to become a
project engineer. As a project engineer, I would be responsible for the successful
completion of construction projects. This would include overseeing the planning,
design, and construction of the project, from start to finish. I would need to ensure
that the project is completed on time and on budget, and in accordance with safety
and environmental regulations. In addition to overseeing the project itself, I would
also be responsible for managing the people and resources involved in the project.
This could include working with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project
partners. I would also need to ensure that all of the necessary materials, labor, and
equipment are available and utilized in the most efficient manner. The role of a
project engineer would be a highly rewarding one, as it would allow me to combine
my technical skills with my interpersonal and organizational abilities. I would be able
to use my knowledge and experience to help ensure that projects are completed
successfully, and to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. This
would also give me the opportunity to work with a variety of people, and to learn
more about the different aspects of civil engineering. I am confident that the
combination of my technical knowledge and interpersonal skills would enable me to
be successful in this role, and to contribute to the success of construction projects.
In addition to being a project engineer, I would also be interested in becoming
an instructor. I believe that the combination of teaching and project engineering
would be a perfect fit for me and my career aspirations. As an instructor, I would be
able to pass on my knowledge and experience to the next generation of civil engineers
and encourage them to pursue this field of study. I would be able to help them
develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in their future careers. I
would also be able to share my own experiences and challenges in the field, and
provide guidance and support to the students. I believe that teaching students would
give me the satisfaction of knowing that I have helped to shape the future of the field.
Teaching would also provide me with the opportunity to stay connected to the civil
engineering industry, and to stay up to date with the latest developments in the field.
Studying medicine after having the financial stability of being an engineer is a
thought that I have considered. The thought of studying medicine always seemed like
a distant dream for me.It is an admirable decision to make, considering the financial
and emotional implications of such a decision. Studying medicine is a major
commitment, not only in terms of time and effort but also financially. My technical
skills and knowledge of the engineering industry will be a huge advantage in the
medical field, as it can help me diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases. Studying
medicine is not all about hard work, however. It is a chance to help people in need
and make a difference in the world. As a doctor, I would have the opportunity to
provide medical services to those who cannot afford them as well as to those in
remote and rural areas. I would also be able to continue my education and expand my
knowledge in the ever-evolving field of medicine.
Overall, I believe that working as a project manager and an instructor would
be a great way to use my civil engineering knowledge and experience to benefit the
industry. The best part about being a dual engineer instructor and project engineer is
having the opportunity to be a part of the entire process. From teaching and
conducting research to designing, developing, and implementing solutions, I am able
to take a hands-on approach to the projects I am working on. This allows me to gain a
deeper understanding of the engineering process and gain valuable experience. I
would also be able to use my skills to help others understand and appreciate the
complexities of civil engineering, and to ensure that the next generation of civil
engineers are well-prepared to enter the field. But then, I do not know what my future
holds. For now, I will try my best to create progress and become a person that I will
be proud of. I will believe in myself. I will be confident in my abilities and remind
myself that I am capable of achieving great things. With this positive attitude and
determination, I will be able to create progress and become the person I want to be.

"A Journey of Self-Discovery: A Reflective Look at My Life"

By: Roda, Raiyennelou

My journey of life began when I was born as Raiyennelou

Roda. I am 18 year old and was born on September 3, 2004. I
am currently taking Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Major In Stuctural Design in South East Asian Institute of
Technology Incorporated. From the very beginning, my
parents instilled the values of hard work and resilience. I
grew up in Purok 2, Lower Tupi South Cotabato. I have a passion for learning and
loves to try new things. I am an outgoing and friendly person who loves to spend time
with my friends and family. I am also a hardworking and dedicated student who
strives to do my best in all that I did. I am a strong believer in the power of education
and is always looking for ways to help others learn and grow. I love to travel and
explore new places and cultures. I hope to one day make a positive difference in the
world. As I try to close my eyes, I gradually remembered what happened to me before
I even enter college.
I had a great experience attending elementary school. When we were young, our lives
were free of anxieties, fears, and obligations. It was also during elementary years that
we experienced many firsts, including our first day of school, our first teacher, our
first best friend, and our first crush. I remembered playing patintero, langit lupa,
luksong baka, Chinese garter, kadang2, yoyo, trumpo and other larong pinoy games.I
enjoyed the learning environment and the relationships I formed with my teachers and
classmates. I remembered that my teachers were very encouraging and supportive,
always pushing me to do my best. The curriculum was challenging, but also engaging
and fun. I was always excited to try out new activities, like science experiments and
art projects. I loved the field trips we went on and the special events, like the school
dances and assemblies. So, what are my unforgettable moments or experiences I had
in elementary days? First, if my grandmother doesn't accompany me to school, I will
cry like a baby. I want her to be there until the end of my class because when I don't
see her, I will cry and I will not be able to focus on studying. Second, was when our
school conducted an earthquake drill? Everyone is busy performing "duck, cover, and
hold" when there is an earthquake drill that will happen. We were already out and
hurried to the open field because that's where the gathering was supposed to be, and
while I was about to sit down, unexpectedly, I was sitting on dog poop. Everyone
laughed, and I almost cried because of the disgrace and the smell of dog poop. I went
back to our school room and quickly went to the bathroom to wash it. But what I
didn't know was that my friend was there, ready to help me. She helped me rinse and
get ready to go home. Lastly, I was the valedictorian of my elementary school. The
fact that I will finally be able to graduate as valedictorian makes me very happy. I
worked very hard on this from the first class until the very end. My parents,
classmates, and even my teachers were proud of me, so this is an achievement for me.
Overall, I cherish the fond memories I have from my elementary school days and the
impact it had on my educational journey.
My high school experience has been full of the ups and downs that come with the
teenage years. I have been able to develop strong and lasting relationships with my
friends, classmates, and teachers. Where are they today, after all these years? Do they
recall and recognize each and every one of us? Do they realize how far they've come
or do they reflect on what transpired when they look back? ‖ I am still in contact with
my closest friends from high school and we hang out occasionally, but we often miss
our other schoolmates. Eventually, one of us had the idea to create a gc or group chat
for our entire batch of 2019, so we could plan a reunion. I'm really excited to add all
of our classmates to the chat, even though some of them are already friends on
Facebook and I haven't spoken to them in a while. Soon enough, our batch's group
chat was established and we added all around 20 students from our sections
―azurite‖. I have been able to build a strong sense of loyalty and trust within my
school community. I have also learned to become more independent, taking on more
responsibility and better managing my time. One of the most rewarding parts of my
high school experience has been the bonding with my friends. We have been able to
get through some of the toughest times together and come out stronger for it. Having
a strong group of friends who are always there for you has been invaluable in my high
school experience. Of course, no high school experience is complete without the
occasional problem. I have had to learn how to deal with disappointment, rejection,
and failure. I have also had to learn how to manage my own stress levels and not let it
overwhelm me. Finally, I have also been able to experience the joys of competition.
From sports teams to academic clubs, I have been able to take part in some great
competitions and have been able to come out with more knowledge and experience
than I had before. Overall, my high school experience has been a wonderful one, full
of friends, loyalty, independence, teachers, classmates, bonding, problems, and
competition that have all helped shape me into the person I am today.
When I first started college, I was filled with excitement and anticipation. I chose my
courses carefully, wanting to make sure I was taking classes that would help me reach
my goals. To my dismay, I soon realized that the classes I had chosen were much
more difficult than I had anticipated. I found myself struggling to keep up with the
workload, feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. I was under constant time pressure to
complete assignments, and I felt like I was failing. At times, I became so discouraged
that my mental health suffered. I was constantly anxious and worried about not being
able to keep up. I felt like I was never going to be able to make it. I tried my best to
press on, but I felt like I was running on empty. Still, I kept working hard, even when
I felt like I was failing. I knew that quitting was not an option. I kept pushing forward,
even though the work was challenging and the pressure was intense. I knew that I had
to prove to myself that I could do it. Through my hard work and dedication, I was
eventually able to succeed the first semester, I experienced failures and
disappointments along the way, but I was able to learn from them and move forward.
It was an amazing experience that helped me learn so much about myself and my
capabilities.
Now that I opened my eyes, writing this journey of my life. I realized that
failure is a part of success. I believe this is the only way to truly make progress in life.
The best way to understand the world is to explore it in all its dimensions, and I am
constantly looking for ways to do this. This is me Raiyennelou Mariano Roda ending
this last page of my journey. To be continued…

―Transportation Engineering‖
By: Roda, Raiyennelou

Transportation engineering is a field of

engineering focused on the planning,
design, operation, maintenance, and
sustainability of transportation systems.
This includes roads, airports, bridges,
facilities, and urban scale systems such as
railroads, seaways, and pipelines. The
planning of transportation systems
requires engineers to consider factors
such as population growth, land use, and
economic development. This is often done through the use of mathematical models
and software that can predict the effects of changes in transportation infrastructure. In
addition, planners must consider the environmental impacts of the proposed system,
such as air and water quality, wildlife and habitat protection, and public health.
Designing transportation systems requires engineers to consider the physical
characteristics of the environment in which they are constructing. This includes the
type of terrain, soil conditions, and weather patterns. Engineers must also consider the
effects of traffic, such as congestion and pollution, as well as the effects of noise and
vibration. In addition, design engineers must consider the financial implications of the
proposed system, such as construction costs, maintenance costs, and operational costs.
The operation of transportation systems requires engineers to consider the needs of
users, such as accessibility and convenience. This includes ensuring that the system is
efficient, reliable, and safe
Transportation engineers are responsible for designing safer, more efficient, and more
sustainable transportation systems. This includes designing roads, bridges, and other
infrastructure to improve safety, reduce congestion, and minimize environmental
impacts. They also conduct research, monitor and evaluate existing transportation
systems, and work to ensure their projects comply with local, state, and federal laws.
Transportation engineers must consider several factors when designing and
constructing transportation systems. These include safety, cost, environmental
impacts, and sustainability. They must also consider how their work will affect the
surrounding environment and community. Safety is a major priority for transportation
engineers. They must design roads, bridges, and other infrastructure to ensure they are
safe for vehicles and pedestrians. They also consider road signs, guardrails, and speed
limits to further enhance safety.
When constructing transportation systems, transportation engineers must also take
into account environmental impacts. This includes evaluating the impact of new roads
and bridges on local ecosystems, as well as the impact of traffic and emissions on air
quality and climate change. To minimize these impacts, transportation engineers must
design projects with sustainability in mind. This includes using materials and
technologies that are environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

"Engineering Your Future: Get Licensed and Reach Your Goals!"
By: Roda, Raiyennelou

When I was a kid, I saw an under construction road in my hometown. It was amazing
to see the heavy machines running, the workers hard at work, and the progress of the
road taking shape. It was like a dream come true for me to see the construction
underway. The sight of it was an encouragement for me to work hard and achieve my
goals. It taught me that with hard work and dedication, we can achieve anything. It
also made me realize my duties and responsibilities as a citizen to contribute towards
the development of my country.
A civil engineer can pursue a variety of career paths, including working in project
management, consulting, construction, research, and teaching. Some specific job titles
for civil engineers include structural engineer, environmental engineer, transportation
engineer, construction engineer, and water resources engineer.
As a future licensed professional civil engineer, I have high hopes for my career. I
would like to be able to work on projects that have a real impact on the environment
and community. This could be anything from designing and building bridges and
roads to designing sustainable energy sources and helping to reduce energy
consumption.
I also want to be able to work with the local community on projects that help to make
the area a better place for everyone to live. I want to be able to make a difference with
the work I do, whether it is designing a bridge that will connect two communities and
improve transportation or designing a green energy source that will help reduce
emissions and create jobs in the area. I would also like to be part of projects that help
to make people‘s lives better, such as improving water quality or creating new parks
and recreation areas.
The practicality of my goals is that they are achievable. With the right education and
experience, I can become a successful civil engineer and make a positive impact on
the environment and the community.
For me, when I graduate and become a Licensed Professional Engineer. Maybe my
chosen job is construction engineer. What is Construction Engineer? A Construction

allows Construction Engineers to develop a wide variety of skills and knowledge.
Additionally, Construction Engineers are typically able to take on a leadership role in
the projects they work on, which can be a rewarding experience.
A career in Construction Engineering is a rewarding and challenging one that
requires a combination of technical knowledge and strong interpersonal skills. As a
Construction Engineer, I will be responsible for the design, planning, and execution
of construction projects. This includes overseeing the design and construction of
residential, commercial, industrial, and public works projects. It is a demanding job,
and requires a great deal of dedication and hard work.
Once I have the necessary qualifications and experience, I can apply for positions in
the field. The job market is competitive, so I will need to be able to demonstrate my
technical knowledge, as well as my ability to interact with and motivate others.
As a Construction Engineer, I will be expected to make sacrifices for the success of
my projects. I will spend long hours on the job, and be required to travel to various
sites to inspect construction progress and make changes as needed. I will also be
responsible for managing budgets and ensuring that projects are completed on time
and within budget. This can be stressful, but it can also be very rewarding when the
project is finished.
Challenges will arise throughout my career in Construction Engineering. As a leader,
I will be expected to make decisions that are in the best interests of the project, as
well as the team. I will also need to be able to handle difficult situations and think on
my feet. It is important to be able to stay organized and prioritize tasks in order to
ensure that projects are completed on time and to the highest standards.
In conclusion, construction engineers have achieved a great deal of success in their
field. They have revolutionized the construction industry with innovative designs,
creative solutions and a dedication to excellence. However, their role is not without
its challenges. Construction engineers must also face the reality of failure, as projects
can be costly, time-consuming and unpredictable. Despite these obstacles,
construction engineers continue to devote their time and effort to ensure that projects
are completed with the highest standards of quality and safety. Their dedication and
hard work is an example of what can be achieved with dedication and a commitment
to excellence.

Expect the Unexpected: An Unfathomable Journey of Mine

By: Umani, Rizalyn

"When you didn't get what you wanted, don't get frustrated. What's yours will
always be meant to be yours. No one can change that," these are the words a stranger
told me when I was still in elementary.

I never expected this of path for myself. My mom died when I was three after
giving birth to my brother. I can still remember how I stared at mom's coffin
watching her pretty face. The memory of me asking my father, "When will mom
awake?" as I watch her lifeless thinking she was just asleep is still fresh in my mind.
It was a devastating moment for
starting back then, I always blamed myself for what myself.
We moved to Kipalbig for good. However, things didn‘t worked out for us.
My father got his hand injured and no one was left to take care of us and my brother.
My aunts and uncles were busy. I can‘t blame them. They also have their own
children to take care of. So we moved again.

My father sent us to Norala where I stayed for 5 years. There, I met a woman
— specifically my aunt— who became like my second mother. She is a minister
assigned in a Children‘s ministry at church and through her, I knew Jesus. She taught
me many things such as household chores as well as guided me academically. She
inculcated moral values in my veins for my mom couldn‘t do it for she‘s gone. I
really wish to visit her soon.

At Norala, I also found my first crush. Meeting him is the most hilarious thing
that ever happened in my life. Imagine, two kindergarten students promising to marry
each other after witnessing a wedding, just out of curiosity. Exactly! Hysterical right?
It really happened. My aunt is a close friend of his mom so we were always together
back then.

Fast forward, due to the poverty that was rampant there, my uncle brought us
back to Kipalbig. There, I continued my studies. I encountered different people with
different principles in life. These people became my friends and I really enjoyed
being with them.

Yet, everything has its own season. There is a time to rejoice and a time to
mourn. This time, not because we‘re moving again but because I lost a loved one—
my best friend. She died due to kidney problems. I was 15 when it happened. Oh, how
fleeting the human life is.

I finished my junior high at Maltana National High School. I was an active

student back then. I joined every events that caught my attention. I really loved math
before but due to some influences, I decided to focus on science since it was my
dream to be a doctor. I can‘t say I had many friends there. I may know them and they
were kind, but we‘re not that close. However, I am happy to have some true people in
my life. They were a blessing.

During pandemic, most of the time, I was at church. We had formed a close
bond and they became my bests of friends. It was a fun relationship. We‘ve gone
through ups during the pandemic. Specifically, we were quarantined because during
our record for praise and worship, a member— my closest friend, became infected
which made us her close contact during that time. Praise God that none of us got
infected as well.

Well, as time flows like the river, I graduated from senior high school at Tupi
National High School. Since it was pandemic, I never really got to know my
classmates better. I have joined them in some of our activities but that was only for a
short period of time. It was so short that I haven‘t really know them one by one.

I really have decided about the degree that I will be taking. I really wanted to
go to medical school and study medicine. I prayed that my heart‘s desire would be
granted. However, the Lord has his own plan— in which I believed was the best.
Every door that I wanted to walk through were closely locked. They weren‘t meant
for me.

I can remember how I cried all night. I was like a child mourning for the
lollipop that was stolen from me. It is a painful experience, as I have dreamt about it
ever since. It was like a sword that pierced my heart, leaving it bleeding as an ashes
was poured unto it.

I enrolled in a school that I never imagined I would belong to. I took a course that I
didn‘t think I would like to. I really thought to myself that it would be a nightmare
for I really didn‘t like what I was doing. Well, I still think of that though, knowing
how hard it is.

My life is full of ‗yets‘ and ‗however‘. This time, the biggest plot twist is that,
I enjoyed. Despite of studying a course that I didn‘t like and enrolling at the school I
never thought of, I met new people with different capabilities. I encountered people
with diverse principles, experiences and backgrounds. I saw myself enjoying as I
brainstorm on the mathematical problems in front of me. I can really say, ―Oh, so
this is the reason why.‖

―Expect the unexpected,‖ they say. Imagining everything that was happened,
I never thought of becoming the person I am right now. This is not the future that I
imagined to be. Indeed, things come and go. Nevertheless, what‘s yours will always
be yours. It will have its own way towards you. Whether you want it or not, dreamt of
it or not, no one can take that from you. Just trust
the process.
A Letter to the Future Me
By: Umani, Rizalyn
How are you? I just want to ask in case no
one did.
First things first. I hope we‘re still good
friends with our crush in this timeline. He is such
a wonderful man and a smart one. Kidding aside, I
pray that you are happy.
As your past self, I really have big dreams
for the both of us. I hope that in your time, we
have achieved it one by one. So how‘s life? Have
you met ―the one?‖ If yes, I hope that he takes care of you the way you deserved to
be.
Did you remember? It is so nostalgic to reminisce the childhood we have
shared. It brings smile to me how we used to go after the tricycle when our Papa
Bebot drove to the farm. We were like a nincompoop back then when we cried
because of a dead ant who drowned in the water due to the rainwater. I miss those
good old days.
You better not forget Nanay Nene and Mama Bing who took care of you a
great deal. Inculcate the things you have learned from them deep in your bones. It will
help you to live as a wise woman. Those lessons penetrated your soul before, causing
you to turn from your old ways, grow and bloom like a beautiful flower. You have to
write them down.
Is Father alright? Did he have health problems or maintenance? Is our house
complete? Who finished it? How about brother, is he doing good in class? He better
took care of Father and helped you with everything. We never really had a house back
then. I hope they are not giving you a hard time now.
Are you still in contact with Pastor Ivan? He was like your brother. He taught
you piano and so many things in life that you will really need at work. Is he a teacher
at Shekinah now? How many kids did he have? Did the Siargao plan come to
success? I hope so. You used to love Justice also, his cat. You cry when this cat left
was so hilarious by the way.
Think of Haniel, Ban-ban, Sofia, Jan-jan, Ff (your cousin who you used to call
Jep-jep) and Bb. They were your closest friends. They call you 200 ms because it
would really took about 15 minutes until you understand their jokes. They were
bullies but they really loved you. You used to serve the Lord at church together. I
hope you were still intact and still serving Him together.
How about Chen-chen? She is your best of closest friends. She influenced you
greatly with your relationship with the Lord. How is her ministry? Is she now a
missionary? Where was she then? Have you visited her?
Remember Kim? How about Jescelton? Christine? Maki? Nezzery? Your
mama Sheryn and Papa Rj? Mich? Yen? Ritch? Jiane? Isaiah? Reyrey? And all of you
first year blockmates? They are absolutely amazing group of people. They were
brilliant, kind and considerate. I hope you are still together.
I have so many question that I want to ask about the people who greatly
influenced our lives. But this letter can‘t contain what I wanted to say. I am sure you
are a graduate now. I didn‘t specify what year though. I really hope we graduated on
time.
I understand darling. It‘s hard. We were at the verge of giving up during our
freshmen years also. You took a degree you didn‘t want to. It is fine. Don‘t be so
harsh on yourself.
We really wanted to be a Radiologist back then. However, it is not the will of
the Lord. We took this course. I hope you enjoyed it the way I do now. I hope your
love for math and logical thinking did not fade.
You are an adult now. I know things are way too different. You have bigger
responsibilities. Bigger opportunities may have come but I pray that the lord have
granted our heart‘s desires according to his plan.
I am torn between pursuing Chemical Engineer and full time lady minister. I
am contemplating about taking up units for chemical engineering or should I enter
bible School. I am not really sure with my heart‘s motive. I really want to ask you
what have you chose but I know, no one can ever answer me except Him who
orchestrates everything.
To be honest I am not really sure of what I wanted to do next. Maybe a
researcher will do but my heart is not on it. I love discovering new things but not to
the point that I want to spend my whole life discovering many things.
A structural designer? It could work. I love designing houses and buildings
after all. Watching my designs come into reality is one of the things that satisfy me. It
brings excitement to every cell. However, it is doesn‘t last that long. My interest fades
as time goes by. It is like a temporary but repeating beat.
I want to be a full time minister but I don‘t know if I really have the proper
kind of heart or I just wanted to meet my friends who became Pastors. Discernment is
what you really need when it comes to determining your calling.
Being a Chemical Engineer is one of my choices. In fact, if I was not exposed
to medical courses ideas, this will be my first choice. However, as I said, things are
different now. It doesn‘t satisfy me anymore.
Here is the catch. What I wanted now is beyond this degree, title or honor that
this world can offer. I want to orbit the earth, travel unto the cosmos clouds, touch the
stars, see the auroras, watch the sun set above the skies, swim across the pacific ocean
dive beneath the Mariana‘s trench and dance like the rain on the roof.
Perhaps what I am really doing right now is surviving. I was not for aiming
anything yet but to finish this degree. I am still praying for it. The answers are on its
way anyway. Maybe I will decide about it in the upcoming years. What do you think
should I do?

Hail to those Who have

Sacrificed!

―If it is not broken, take it

apart and fix it,‘ this is a line from
the title of a book written by Manin
Spirit. It is a compilation of his
journal as an engineer consisting 110 pages. According to him, it is the motto of an
engineer.
Engineering is the branch of science and technology that deals with the
principles in designing and building structures, machines, vehicles and many
other things. Engineers are the people who work with this job. They can be chemical
engineers, mechanical engineers, aeronautical engineers, civil
engineers and etc. There are also several specializations in each
engineering branches that we have.
Transportation is a system for moving a thing, a person or
yourself form one place to another by various means such as vehicles. According to
brainly, it is the movement of goods from one location to its destination. Although a
portal could be used for transporting, no engineer yet has come to invent it.
Transportation engineering or also known as transport engineering is a job that
deals with the construction of transportation facilities. They design highways,
railways and bus systems. In order to ensure the safe, effective, swift, comfortable,
convenient, affordable and environmentally friendly movement of people, these
engineers apply their learned technology and scientific principles in planning,
designing, operating and managing transportation facilities.
Traffic engineering, highway engineering, port and harbor engineering, airport
engineering and infrastructure engineering are subspecialties of transport engineering.
The design, building, and maintenance of ports, harbors, canals, and other
maritime facilities are handled by port and harbor engineers.
Rail engineers are in charge of planning, building, and running fixedguideway
railroads and mass transit systems (such as light rail or monorails). They establish the
railways' horizontal and vertical alignment. They find the station's location and create
stations' useful components, such as lines and platforms. Railway engineers invest in
and revitalize the rail system to meet future demands in an effort to create a cleaner
and safer transportation network. Train dispatching is a specialist area of study for
railroad engineers that focuses on managing train movement.
Airports are designed and built by airport engineers. When designing airport
facilities, airport engineers must take aircraft impacts and requirements into
consideration. These engineers must identify the clear zones throughout the entire
port using the analysis of the prevalent wind direction to establish runway orientation,
size of runway boundary and safety areas, and various wing tip to wing tip clearances
for all gates. The Civil Engineering Department, which consists of Civil and
Structural Engineers, designs runways and other pavements, aircraft hangars for
parking government, private, and commercial aircraft, passenger and cargo terminals,
technical buildings for installing airport ground aids, etc., and other structures for the
airports' internal needs and consulting projects.
Highway engineers plan, develop, build, and maintain roads, highways, and
other vehicle infrastructure, as well as their corresponding cycling and pedestrian
domains. They determine the public's transportation needs, then get project funding.
Also, they consider safety and capacity issues while examining areas with high traffic
volumes and collision rates. They apply engineering principles to the transportation
system to make it better and utilize the drivers, cars, and roads themselves as the three
design controls.
In addition to providing scientific expertise, transportation engineering also
provides insight into social, political and economic issues. It makes sure that
transportation networks improve the community‘s quality in life.
To become a transportation engineer, the minimal qualification for
employment is a bachelor‘s degree. A lot of engineers have civil engineering degrees
with a specialization in transportation engineering. Mathematical and statistical
concepts as well as engineering mechanics and systems, structural analysis and
hydrology re frequently covered in this course.
In order to execute engineering calculations, demonstrations and applications
in utilizing specialized transport engineering software, transportation engineering
students will acquire fundamental theoretical and practical expertise. In accordance
with the demands of sustainable mobility, they will evaluate the interdependencies
between transportation, urban planning and regional planning.
It is not easy to become an engineer. You will be in charge of various projects
which human lives are at stake. With just a mistake, you may murder hundreds of
people. Transportation engineering is way complicated. That is why let us appreciate
these engineers for even the brokenness of a certain material, they turn it into
something new just to provide us comfortable lives.

My Journey Through My Life as a Student
By:Mark Jason Dullano

Let's start with my life. I'm Mark Jason Dullano. In all honesty, I'm in a lot of trouble
and my life is a shambles. I occasionally question myself, "How can I get past this?" since I
have no idea.
My life's journey has been filled with heartbreaks, difficulties, and problems. Even at
a young age, I am acutely aware that our family is not contented in the same way as others.
We are a dysfunctional family, to put it briefly. And I find it difficult as a student to deal with
these kinds of difficulties. Some of these difficulties will put my courage, strength, weakness,
and faith to the test.
But I constantly bear in mind that there will be hurdles along the way and that the
journey will not always be easy for us. in order to proceed in the proper direction.
After many issues, difficulties, and obstacles, I remembered how lovely my life is.
Sometimes, however, those challenges and obstacles are actually a blessing to us.
The only thing left for me to do is to move forward with the knowledge I have
gathered from my experiences and lessons learnt, which will ultimately make me a stronger
person.
Despite all the difficulties, I want to thank everyone who has supported me,
encouraged me, and given me the willpower to carry on with my path.
My life is currently going well, and I can already sense changes coming. In the end, I
want to give God praise for these blessings in my life.
"Everything that occurs in our lives has a purpose, and occasionally that means I have
hurdles to overcome."
Transportation Engineering
By: Mark Jason Dullano

Transportation engineering is a branch of civil engineering that involves the planning,

design, operation, and maintenance of transportation systems to help build smart, safe, and
livable communities.
Any system that moves people and goods from one place to another fall under the
scope of transportation engineering, which includes:
• Highways and roadways
• Railways
• Oil pipelines
• Public transport systems
• Traffic control systems
• Automated transport systems
• Space transport systems
In planning projects, transportation engineers gather relevant data on the population in
the surrounding area, travel patterns, socioeconomic characteristics, laws and ordinances, and
financial resources. They consolidate this information and use decision-support tools to
develop, design, and deliver various types of transportation projects in consideration of
various performance measures (e.g., operations, safety, environmental impacts).
While their professional duties vary based on job level and specialization, some of the
most common responsibilities of a transportation engineer are:

• Draft design and construction of plans for new transportation systems.

• Investigate traffic problems and identify solutions.
• Analyze engineering data and draw conclusions and recommendations.
• Estimate project budgets for labor, materials, and equipment.
• Discuss plans with contractors, local organizations, and the public.
• Inspect completed projects to ensure safety and compliance to standards.
• Model transportation systems to assess impact.
• Oversee survey, staking, and layout of projects.
• Present reports and proposals to stakeholders.
BEING CIVIL ENGINEER
By: Mark Jason Dullano

The discipline of transportation engineering offers a variety of career options,

including positions in the governmental, private, and nonprofit sectors. The most common
employers of transportation engineers are transportation businesses, construction companies,
state and local governments, and engineering firms.

The majority of the time, transportation engineers operate in an office setting, but some
positions call for them to travel outside of the building to coordinate and analyze construction
projects.

Transportation engineers can opt to further specialize as highway, traffic, or safety

engineers based on their training and work experience. For instance, highway engineers are in
charge of conducting studies, creating plans, and building highways, bridges, and tunnels.

No matter their prospective specialty, transportation engineers should think about

graduate-level study and perhaps licensure if they wish to take on higher-level duties like
independent decision-making and project oversight (see box). According to Burning Glass,
nearly half of all senior engineer job ads in the transportation industry needed a graduate
degree.

You can apply for licensing as a professional engineer to improve your career chances
and income possibilities as a transportation engineer (PE). With a PE license, engineers
become qualified to develop, sign and seal, and submit engineering plans for clients. On
average, transportation engineers with a PE license make roughly 30,000 pesos more more
per month than their counterparts without a license.

1. To be considered a PE, you must:

1. Obtain a four-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program.
2. To work as an intern engineer, you must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)
exam.
3. 2.Obtain the necessary level of professional experience while being supervised by a
PE.
4. 3.Pass the PE exam (Principles and Practice of Engineering)

Field civil engineers must also be familiar with construction methods and materials.

They must be able to offer the optimal procedures and materials for a particular
project, based on criteria such as price, toughness, and environmental effects. The most recent
innovations in construction technology must also be known to them, and they must be able to
incorporate them into their projects.

Cost management and control skills are also a requirement for field civil engineers. The
ability to find ways to lower the project's overall cost and locate opportunities for cost savings
without sacrificing security or quality. They must also maintain correct records, maintaining
cost data for projects and delivering frequent cost reports to the project manager or client.

In conclusion, the field of civil engineering is both demanding and lucrative, with
countless opportunities for development and growth. As an aspiring civil engineer, the impact
that can be made on the globe is substantial, and there are countless opportunities. based on a
solid basis. Anyone can achieve success in mathematics and science with a formal education
and relevant experience an effective civil engineer who has a favorable social impact.

The Journey
By: Gimmena, Kyle

A baby was born in the night of March 16, 2000. She was named by her parents as
Kyle Hillary Gimena. That‘s me. I‘m that baby and grew up loving music, games, and art. But
even after all those interests, I didn‘t really want it to be my career. I don‘t want to burn all
the fuel from all my interests.

I still recall writing in my kindergarten yearbook about wanting to be a nurse as my

dream career. When it comes to medical assistance, I've always admired how they take care
of those in need. I was amused by how they composed themselves in a difficult situation. But
that didn't last long because when I was about 8 years old, I decided I wanted to be a doctor,
specifically a neurosurgeon. I was astounded by how complex and amazing their abilities and
knowledge of the human brain were. I looked into a variety of surgical fields and videos, but
neurosurgery was the one that really piqued my interest.

When I turned around 10 years old I realized that my parents couldn't financially
support me in that course, so I gave up with that dream, but it was also around that time that I
saw a movie about a psychologist. Since I was a child, I've always been a quiet person who
loves to observe human behavior. My parents can also financially support me with that
course, but my mother has always been opposed to it, so I never really drown myself in that
dream.
In high school, I no longer had a specific career goal. Every time a teacher asks us
about our dream jobs, I simply tell them that I wanted to be a doctor, even though I know I
will not pursue it. As a result, I was "dreamless" throughout high school. Though I
was listening to my classmates' dream courses, Engineering was one of the ideal dream jobs
that they wanted; it rang a bell with me, but I never really considered it at the time.
During my senior year of high school, a group of people came to our school and
offered us scholarships for industrial design from one of Bangkok's universities. They gave us
exams, interviews, and tasks to draw. Among all the students who applied for the scholarship,
I was the only one who received the full scholarship. My parents convinced me to take it
since it‘s a once on a blue moon opportunity, so I did. I took the IELTS examination and
enrolled at that university. But personal circumstances forced me to remain in the Philippines.
I didn't know what to do here after that because I had been "dreamless" my entire high school
career.
Remember when I mentioned that the engineering struck a chord with me? It rang
again, but this time I did some research on it, and it piqued my interest. So I decided to pursue
engineering. Unfortunately, all of the schools in General Santos City had already begun at the
time, and I had to wait for the entrance exams to reopen. Mindanao State University was my
choice because they have a strong engineering program, and luckily I passed.
As things appear to be going well, I unfortunately ran out of Civil Engineering
program slots because I enrolled late since I was out of town at the time. I still
wanted to be an engineer, so I chose BS Mathematics because the majority of its subjects can
be credited

once I change my major. Another year behind my cohort won't hurt, right? Well,
that‘s incorrect. I received my schedule for changing my course a week before the class
began, and unfortunately, one of the building's employees got Covid-19 and had to quarantine
everyone. They had no choice but to enroll us in BS Mathematics because it was already close
to the start of the school year. So I studied it for another year. I was depressed, and it made
me think that engineering might not be for me.

My sister was already in college the following year. She also wanted to be an
engineer. She was looking for a school that provides quality engineering education and came
across South East Asian Institute of Technology. I asked for a sign that if I ever pass their
entrance exam, engineering is still a viable option for me. So my sister and I took the exam
together and both passed. I know I'm far behind my batch mates, but it doesn‘t really bother
me anymore.
So many things happened before I ended up getting this course, and I intend to persist
in it even though I may be required to extend it another year/s due to the possibility of failing
some subjects. I know God has plans and has His reasons for everything that has happened to
me. I will view all those experiences as blessings in disguise. No matter how difficult my
journey will become, I will remain patient and grateful.
Transportation Engineering
By: Kyle Gimmena

Transportation engineering is a field of civil engineering that deals with the design,
construction, operation, and maintenance of transportation systems and infrastructure. This
includes highways, roads, bridges, public transit systems, airports, and ports. The goal of
transportation engineering is to provide safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation options
for people and goods.
One of the main responsibilities of transportation engineers is the design and
construction of roads, highways, and bridges. This includes determining the best alignment
for a new road or highway, designing the road to meet the needs of all users (such as cars,
buses, and bicycles), and ensuring that the road or bridge can withstand the loads and forces it
will be subjected to over its lifetime.
Transportation engineers also play a key role in the planning and development of
public transit systems, such as buses and trains. This includes determining the best routes for
the transit system, designing stations and stops, and ensuring that the system is able to
accommodate the needs of all users, including those with disabilities.
In addition, transportation engineers are involved in the planning and design of
airports and ports. This includes determining the best location for a new airport, designing the
runways, taxiways, and terminal buildings, and ensuring that the airport can handle the
expected number of passengers and aircraft. At ports, engineers work on designing and
maintaining the infrastructure to handle cargo, such as docks and cranes.
One of the major challenges facing transportation engineers today is addressing the
problem of traffic congestion. This includes finding ways to reduce the number of cars on the
road, such as through the use of carpooling and public transit, and finding ways to make
traffic flow more efficiently, such as through the use of intelligent transportation systems
(ITS). ITS uses technology such as sensors and cameras to monitor traffic flow and adjust
traffic signals and other traffic management strategies in real-time to keep traffic moving.

Another challenge facing transportation engineers is the need to make

transportation systems more sustainable. This includes designing roads and highways to
reduce the amount of energy required to operate them, designing public transit systems that
use renewable energy sources, and finding ways to reduce the amount of pollution generated
by transportation.
In recent years, the transportation industry has been focusing on the development of
autonomous vehicles and the integration of these vehicles into the transportation system.
Transportation engineers play a key role in this development by designing and testing the
infrastructure and systems required for autonomous vehicles to function safely and efficiently
on the roads.
Overall, transportation engineering is a challenging and dynamic field that plays a
critical role in the development and operation of the transportation systems that are essential
to our daily lives. With the increasing demand for sustainable and efficient transportation
options, the role of transportation engineers is becoming even more important.
My Future as a Civil Engineer
By: Gimmena, Kyle

Pursuing a career in structural engineering was not really a lifelong dream of mine.
From a young age, my dream was not related to engineering at all. I have been fascinated by
the design and construction of buildings and other structures after I graduated high school and
made research about it, till then, I obtained the eager to learn more about the science and
mathematics behind these structures.
After graduating from high school, I became more interested in structural engineering
after conducting additional research on engineering where complex building designs were
constructed. They turned architects' imaginations into reality. I was immediately drawn to its
complexity and knew it was the field I never knew I wanted to work in.
I didn‘t get the chance to take the civil engineering course right away. From the
university that I enrolled before, the slot for civil engineering was already full. I‘ve decided to
take BS Mathematics as an alternative so that majority of my subjects will be credited once
I‘ll shift to my desired course. But things are not as easy as I thought it would be. One of the
staff from the building accommodation office that‘s in charge of shifting courses had Covid19
and had to quarantine the entire staff within the building. My shift enrolment was scheduled a
week before the class began, and because of the circumstances, they enrolled us in BS
Mathematics since there was no time left for the process if we waited for their quarantine to
end. I had to continue the course for another year. My sister was starting college, and she also
wanted to be an engineer. She looked for schools that provide quality education for the course
that we want, and we found the school where we are now. I took the entrance exam and was
fortunate to be accepted.
Once I graduate, I will apply what I‘ve learned in the classroom to real-world projects.
I‘ll get the opportunity to work on a number of structural engineering projects, including
designing and building a small bridge, designing and constructing a small building, and
working on a team to design and construct a large steel structure. These projects will help me
understand the practical applications of the concepts I‘ll learn in class and gave me a sense of
what it would be like to work as a structural engineer. I decided to pursue a graduate degree in
structural engineering afterwards. I wantto further my education and gain a deeper
understanding of the subject matter. In graduate school, I‘ll take a variety of advanced classes
that covered the latest research and developments in structural engineering. I‘ll also work on a
number of research projects, including studying the behavior of steel structures under extreme
loading conditions and developing new methods for analyzing the performance of concrete
structures.
After completing my graduate degree, I am ready to enter the workforce as a structural
engineer. I hope to be able to secure a job with a large engineering firm that specializes in the
design and construction of buildings and other structures. In this role, I‘ll be able to work on a
wide range of projects, from small residential buildings to large commercial structures. I‘ll
also be able to apply what I‘ve learned in college and graduate school to real-world problems
and have gained a great deal of experience in the field.
I know pursuing a career in structural engineering will be an incredibly rewarding
experience. I‘ll be able to combine my passion for the subject matter with my love of
problem-solving and be able to make a real impact in the world. I‘ll be able to design
and build structures that will stand the test of time and that will be used by people for
years to come. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work in this field and am
excited to see what the future holds.

In conclusion, civil engineering is a both challenging and rewarding career that offers
endless possibilities for development and success. One can profoundly make a difference as a
future civil engineer, and there are countless opportunities. Anyone can succeed as a civil
engineer and contribute to society if they have a firm foundation in mathematics and science,
advanced education, and real-world experience.
PAGPATI: CIVILived He Can
By:Selma, Reynaldo

When I was young, there used to be a cartoon on the TV5 channel named ―Bob the
Builder.‖ This was the first time, as a child, that I got interested in making a building or
constructing infrastructure. So after that, I used to watch it regularly to fulfill my happiness. I
was also inspired watching my father simply renovate our house; he looked like a real and
professional engineer as he designed and constructed it to be better. As a child, I also want to
build a home, design an infrastructure, and make a building. I want to be like him and become
a real engineer someday. So that‘s the time when I dream of having an engineer in our family.
But while growing up, a lot of things came to my mind. I started having negative
thoughts about whether I wanted to pursue the dream that I really wanted to be or if it was
just my childhood dream that a cartoon show inspired me to pursue. I question myself: Why
do I want to be a civil engineer? I honestly did not know the answer to this question myself. I
was extremely confused when it came to choosing a career. There were so many fields that
interested me that I found it difficult to make up my mind. Then I read about civil
engineering, an occupation involving the construction of buildings, roads, and bridges. I
looked further into civil engineering. I began to like many aspects of this career and to
remember how my childhood cartoons and my father affected my future.
Throughout my studies in SEAIT-INC taking a course of Bachelor of Science in Civil
Engineering, I experience a lot of changes in myself and a little of adjustment cause it‘s been
2 years ago since the school has the face to face class due to the pandemic. The strand that I
took when I was in Senior High School level was not align to the subjects of my
course now so I also struggling to catch it up. I found it challenging rather than
difficult, maybe the most difficult subjects were those dealing with higher mathematics
applications . Most useful things I learned were everything I‘ve learned not just academically
but patience and focus. Passing exams, quizzes and even seat works some would say it‘s not
so easy. You have to burn your candle and stay focus or else you‘ll shift to another course as
many have been. The most important is to stay focused, study hard and don‘t lose your
burning passion to become a future engineer. I had difficulties in studying the calculus and
algebra subjects but through hard work, patience and determination I was able to make it.
Nevertheless the course I took was indeed challenging. My love for Mathematics really
did help me a lot, of course I wouldn‘t be enrolling on the course if I hated the subject. As I
had my major subjects, the learning process became enjoyable. Our professors were good
enough to insert current events that are in line with the subject during discussions. This
actually helped us, the students, to understand more the subject and its relevance to the real
world. Civil Engineering is really interesting. Its scope is very broad and we call it the mother
of engineering. Some people say it‘s very difficult but in my case, I enjoy learning new
things. After all, I realized that nothing is impossible with God to achieve one‘s goal in
life. The lessons I learned are ―Believe in yourself that you can make it‖ and ―Do your best
and God will do the rest‖. Being a child of not rich parents, I had to accept whatever things I
had. What I had was my determination to finish the course and become an engineer some day.
Keeping my eyes fixed on the objective, weighing my achievements over my misses,
targeting improvement and most importantly, never giving up is my everyday goal because
hard work always pays. The habit when we still study in college are to being focus to your
study, make your study as your friend, don‘t be shy to ask if you did not understand the
subject and put to your heart and have a passion to your study. One day you will be victorious
and your parent will be proud of you. Hard work and persistence are the keys to success.
Transportation Engineering

Engineering is the creative application of science, mathematical methods, and

empirical evidence to the innovation, design, construction, and maintenance of structures,
machines, materials, devices, systems, processes, and organizations. The discipline of
engineering encompasses a broad range of more specialized fields of engineering, each with a
more specific emphasis on particular areas of applied mathematics, applied science, and types
of application. There are also many types of engineering, the mechanical engineering,
chemical engineering, electric engineering, civil engineering and many more. Transportation
Engineering is a branch of civil engineering that involves the planning, design, operation and
maintenance of transportation system to help build smart, safe, and livable communities. A
broad field that can apply to work with roadways, waterways, railways and other projects.
These engineers develop faster, safer and more efficient means of transportation that ensure
the use from people using them. Transportation Engineering have many branches, it can be
traffic engineering, highway engineering, airport engineering and infrastructure engineering.
Transportation Engineering applies scientific and technical knowledge to provide
economical and efficient transportation service that meets societal needs while maintaining
compatibility with environmental, energy, and safety goals. They help in cultural
development of the country. They help in political development of the country. It plays a vital
role in development of rural areas of the country. They improve the employment
opportunities. A good transport system can broaden the market for goods. It can also make
the movement of raw materials, fuel, equipment, etc. to the places of production easy.
Further, it opens up remote regions as well as resources for production.
The purpose of transportation
planning is to improve the safety and
comfort of people and animals on the
most efficient transportation systems. To
improve the transportation systems of
your area, consult a civil engineering
company today. Aside from rebuilding
existing infrastructure, transportation
engineers will also play a key role in
designing innovative, data-driven
transportation systems that optimize
sustainability, safety, and quality of life.
Transport is essential for not only the
economic activities in cities operating
well, but also for enabling social well-
being as well as the unity of populations.
It is the responsibility of transport
engineers to provide citizens with various
types of vehicles for everyday mobility.
For industries, the engineers design
transport that is vital to the manufacture
and distribution of products in cities.
Relevant urban infrastructure is a crucial
precondition for transport platforms.
Transportation engineers and planners has the capability to minimize the time it takes to
get an adequate force of emergency responders to the scene where they can help victims,
provide assessments, and control access and maximize the proportion of the population
moved away from the hazardous area without being subjected to other risks such as traffic
accidents. It can also provide assistance to ITS resources, timing traffic signals, and providing
traffic control devices such as cones, barriers, and signs, to assist in directing traffic during
the evacuation. Transport Planners can identify routes that have a high probability and
feasibility of use considering their survivability, ease of restoration, functional service, and
strategic location. It has also had a major impact on public safety. By making roads safer, it
allows for people to travel more easily, reducing the risk of accidents and other hazards. The
development of traffic lights, street signs, and other traffic control measures have also
improved the safety of roads, making it easier for people to get around without putting
themselves or others at risk. Transportation engineering has also been instrumental in the
development of the environment. For example, the development of public transportation
systems has allowed for the reduction of emissions, which has helped to make the air cleaner
and reduce air pollution.
Constructing the Future
By: Selma, Reynaldo

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design,
construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including
public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewage systems, pipelines,
structural components of buildings, and railways. The path to becoming a civil engineer
begins with a rigorous curriculum rooted in practical applications of mathematics and science.
Civil engineering programs are often selective and competitive, and many who earn a
bachelor‘s degree go on to a master‘s program where they further develop their skills in
specialized areas.

Civil engineers need to have a broad skillset beyond math and science, including
problem-solving, decision making, and leadership. A civil engineering graduate typically
begins their career as an Engineer-in-Training. Upon passing a national exam and meeting a
State‘s requirements for work experience under the supervision of a Professional Engineer,
they themselves are eligible to be granted the title of Professional Engineer. Civil engineers
work with the public, with municipalities, with construction workers, and more.
Communication skills are extremely important, as they work in a variety of settings and with
multiple teams and individuals.

As a kid, I always love about mathematics. I wanted to pursue a career that would
utilize my math skills, so I decided that engineering would be the best path for me. I got into
civil engineering because I believe infrastructure is the foundation of our civilization. The
first person to inspire me to become a civil engineer was my dad, who is also a civil engineer.
From a young age he showed me various projects that he had been working on and I was
fascinated to see it as I do it in the future and amazed at how it all worked.

When I become a civil engineer, the job that I prefer to take is project engineer. As a
project engineer, I am responsible for all technical and engineering aspects of their assigned
projects. I plan, schedule, predict, and manage all the technical tasks of their assigned project
to assure accuracy, proper resources, and quality from start to finish. I have the abilities like
great organizational skills. The ability to explain design ideas and plans clearly. Confident
decision-making ability. Excellent communication skills. If I become a successful project
engineer, I should have the ability to work with multiple discipline projects and demonstrate
excellent project management and supervision skills. I should also have excellent
organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills. My role is to
provide technical support and engineering expertise for the effective execution of a project,
the responsibilities can be critical to success. Also my responsibilities will vary based on the
industry, organization, or specific project.

Despite of the circumstances, obstacles, and sacrifices that came across to my life, these
were never the barrier to stop me in pursuing and chasing my dreams. But, it is the motivation
that pushes me to not give up and to remain strong in pursuing my ambition and to prove that
my name is worthy to be called as an Engineer. I believe that if I become a civil
engineer, all knowledge, skills and abilities that I acquire as a student will greatly help me to
be a responsible and productive engineer. I would also apply all those knowledge to secure
the safety of people and to construct a building that the foundation is strong and safe. Being
unprivileged is not the reason to block the desire of your life but if you have the passion and
determination you will achieve the biggest dream you are reaching since the very start.
TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING SERVICE
By: Tolores, Christian

Transportation engineering is the branch of engineering which applies technology,

science, and human factors to the planning, design, operations and management of roads, streets,
bikeways, highways, their networks, and terminals. Transportation engineering is a field that is
constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of society. As the world's population continues
to grow and urbanization increases, there is a growing need for transportation systems that are
efficient, safe, and sustainable.

Transportation consist of all sorts of vehicles like bus, car, plane, ship, train, and
boat etc. Transportation is one of the most useful inventions of science and technology. It has
brought a lot of changes in our life. Transportation engineering is a field that aims to improve
efficiency and sustainability in the movement of people and goods. The service works with a
due date, and specialists work appropriately.

The objective of Transportation engineering is to provide safe, rapid, comfortable,

efficient, convenient, and environmentally compatible movement of people, goods, and
services. The development of every nation hinges on the effectiveness of their transportation
systems. Movement of goods, services and people to and from work is made possible by
transportation systems. The importance of effective transportation systems cannot be
overemphasized.

In past, people had to walk on foot from one place to another. It was very tiring
and difficult. They had to walk for days, some rich people used horse to travel. People could
not exchange the things easily. People were compelled to live in one place.

Letter in a course of time, scientist, and technicians invented different kind of

vehicles which made our life easier and more comfortable than before. Modern talks about
transportations have brought a lot of change to social norms and values, culture and business.
The things of one place can be shifted to far places within some hours. So, we are using the
things made in foreign countries.

Transportation engineers prepare, design and run the huge public and personal
facilities systems that link our real world. Transportation engineering has actually constantly
been among the vital civil engineering disciplines, affecting highways, bridges, transit
stations, airports and sea ports and so on. Transportation engineering has actually now
become a multidisciplinary field extending economics, politics, sociology and psychology, in
addition to its core mathematical, engineering and computational concepts.
Transportation has actually constantly played a necessary function in the
advancement of society, initially with regard to trade paths, however more just recently with
regard to land- and air-based systems. It is the transportation engineer‘s obligation to strategy,
design, construct, run and preserve these systems of transportation, in such a method about
offer the safe, hassle-free and effective motion of products and individuals.

Transportation engineering is frequently tough to comprehend, do not stress at

that time as our specialists make you comprehend it quickly. Some subjects, which students
cannot comprehend, are functions of transportation engineering, public law, car circulation,
preparation and applications of transportation system. Therefore, our professionals assist you
from the issue.

Transportation engineers are included with the effective and safe motion of both
products and individuals. They design and preserve all kinds of transportation centers,
consisting of streets and highways, public transportation systems, railways, harbors, ports,
and airfields.

People have reached the moon and trying to reach the other planets. No
development work is possible without the modern means of transportation. Development
equipment are carried by vehicles. Transportation brings the people closed to each other‘s. It
creates a sense of nation unities and patriotism.
BOY SCOUT OF THE YEAR
By: Tolores, Christian

My name is Christian O. Tolores, and my first adventure began on March 17,

2004, the day of my birth in Barangay Magsaysay, City of Koronadal, my parents are Mr.
Jessie P. Tolores and Mrs. Juliet O. Tolores..
The adventure of living in the path of life. We are born, live our lives, and
eventually pass away with time. We are attempting to shape our lives in this way. Everyone's
life is different. Some people have a lot of problems in life, while others do not. Those who
have never faced adversity in their lives have one perspective on life. Those that struggle in
life have a different perspective. Life is frequently described as priceless. The various ways in
which people seek to save lives reveal this even more clearly.
Since I don‘t remember much of my childhood memories now, I‘ll start with my
school days. On my first day od school, I was quite excited. I was a genius student in
kindergarten according to some of my teachers, who always gave me a high grades. I was
overjoyed since receiving praise usually make you feel wonderful.
Elementary life, I was enrolled in Magsaysay Elementary School. In my journey in
elementary when I am Gade2 I‘ve experience being the Lakan of the year and also its start my
journey in being the top 2 of our section. I‘ve also remembered that I am active in
participating dance competition in our school and I am always the leader. When I was in
grade 3, I remembered that I experienced an accident that gave me a second chance to live
again. This is the time that I am joining a team quiz competition in different subject specially
math contest competing in other school and we are bringing medals back to our school. I am
also a good member of boy scout that is competing with other school and when I am Grade 6
the time of graduation I receive the certificate of Boy Scout of The Year. I am also the
salutatorian or the top 2 of our school that brings more self-confidence to me to continue my
journey in High School.
High school life., I was enrolled in Conception National High School. I am so very
happy in my 1st year experience because I was so small but im so very active in our math
subject and our teacher see my potential in math subject and she said to me that I need to
prepare myself because I will be the one who will be join team quiz in math contest and
MTAP contest bringing the name of our school CNHS. In our Grade 7 and Grade math
contest we won as the 3rd placer and I am very happy of it. When I was Grade 10 I remember
those event and program that is didn‘t work because of the start of pandemic that time. JS
prom, high school day. pictorial for graduation and also the face to face graduation that didn‘t
work because of the pandemic. Senior High School Life, I was enrolled also in Conception
National High School with the strand of ABM. A lot of lesson that is not learned because of
online form of teaching but I survive. When I was Grade 12 I experience to wrote a business
plan and our title for our business plan is ―MACALV Customized Face Mask‖. A
experienced that give to me knowledge in how to defensed your feasibility study and a lot of
lesson I learned during my defense that you need to be aware and prepare of what are you
doing. I survive my Senior High School journey and graduated with a with honors and
complete attendance despite the pandemic.
Probably the happiest time of our lives. Many consider their college lives to be the
best, but to me high school is better, because it has more fun and less workload. It marks the
time when we have just shed our baby skins and we are coming into our bodies. We are
young adults now. Our bodies are going through a series of changes. Boys are transforming
into young men, while girls are blooming into beautiful young women. At this point, we are
mature enough to recognize our interests, our passions and everything else we need to know
about ourselves.
College Life, actually I was already enrolled in KORBEL Foundation College Inc.
as an BSA (Bachelor of Science in Accountancy) and I am just waiting for my schedule but I
heard a news and I saw that there‘s a civil engineering entrance exam having in the school of
SEAIT (South East Asian Institute of Technology, Inc.) and I‘ll take the opportunity to take
exam because its free. I am not afraid of what will be the result of my entrance exam because
I do my best and I don‘t have plan to be an engineer but I have ambition to engineer. The time
that the result was posted in my timeline and the result was I passed and I‘m so very happy
and prepare myself for upcoming enrolment. The day of face to face in my college life I am
expecting that engineering is not a easy one course but I entered it so I have to finish it, it's a
waste of the opportunity that I entered, it's a waste if the cup is ignored so I continue with it. I
am struggling as an engineering student but I believe that I can do it and I can handle it for me
and my family
As a normal person, I also have ambition. My ambition is to become an engineer
one day. It is not just an ambition but I want it to become a reality to my life. It is true that
years of hard work are required to become an engineer, but after of four years of college
studying engineering, you can make money. It is also an interesting work. I choose being an
engineer because I like this so I need to prepare like a boy scout to finish this ambition.
Civil Engineering/ Instructor
By: Tolores, Christian

As we know, the whole society would not be capable of functioning as it does

without the work of civil engineers. In fact, this career is often called ―the people-serving
profession‖ because many of its projects serve the public good, and because of that I have
always felt passionate about how civil engineers contribute to the society by applying the
principles of science and math to the planning, construction, and maintenance of facilities,
both public and private, that are needed to industrialize a society. I feel that if I become a civil
engineer, I would have opportunities not only to get a job, but also to help and improve the
lives of people from my country and the world.
From an early age, I have always been involved with one of the subjects related
with this career, which is mathematics, I participated in several math competitions, and I won
them, and when I got into the high school, I began to like other subjects also related with
civil. After realizing all kind of studies, I will return to my country to contribute to the
developing and improvement of my society, because I would concentrate my career in the
field of transportation engineering, since through my life I have seen the lack and need of
highways and roads in my country.

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the

design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment,
including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewage systems,
pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways. Civil engineers make use of the
principles of civil engineering to the many structures we see around us. They are responsible
for planning and overseeing different construction efforts and applying civil engineering
principles to ensure that constructed structures are safe and sturdy.

As a civil engineer, there are many prospects for advancement and progress in
this broad discipline. The infrastructure that underpins contemporary society is designed,
constructed, and maintained by the discipline of civil engineering. This covers everything
from buildings, airports, and water delivery systems to roads and bridges. The opportunities
are limitless, and you can have a big impact on the globe as a future civil engineer. If I was
not able to become a college instructor my preferred job would likely be in the field of
sustainability and environmental engineering. I would be interested in designing and
developing sustainable infrastructure projects that minimize environmental impact, such as
renewable energy systems, green buildings, and water management systems. Additionally, I
would enjoy working on projects that contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation
efforts.
As a civil engineer with a focus on sustainability and environmental
engineering, I would likely work on a variety of projects, including designing and building
green infrastructure, assessing the environmental impact of proposed developments, and
developing and implementing plans for sustainable resource management. I would also be
engaged in research and development, looking for new and innovative solutions to the
environmental challenges facing society now a days. Another important aspect of civil
engineering is the maintenance of existing infrastructure. Civil engineers are responsible for
inspecting and evaluating the condition of existing structures and determining the necessary
repairs or upgrades. This includes everything from repairing potholes in roads to reinforcing
aging bridges. It is crucial that the infrastructure is maintained to ensure the safety of the
public and to prevent costly failures in the future.

If I were to become an instructor in the field of civil engineering, my primary

focus would be on sustainability and environmental engineering. I would develop and teach
courses on topics such as green infrastructure design, sustainable resource management, and
climate change adaptation and mitigation. I would also incorporate hands-on learning
opportunities, such as field trips and project-based assignments, to give students practical
experience in these areas.

I would also conduct research and engage in scholarly activities related to

sustainability and environmental engineering. I would publish papers and articles in academic
journals, present at conferences and workshops, and collaborate with other researchers in the
field. I would also seek out funding opportunities to support my research and students'
projects. The goal of a civil engineer is to design safe and sturdy airports, bridges, dams,
harbors and highways that millions of people will use for years. Whether your career goals
are professional satisfaction or financial success, education and planning can assist you in
meeting those goals.

In addition to teaching and research, I would also be an advisor and mentor for
students. I would help them to identify research opportunities, apply for internships, and
prepare for careers in sustainability and environmental engineering. I would also encourage
them to get involved in community projects and volunteer work, giving them the opportunity
to make a positive impact in their communities. Being a civil engineer is a full time job.
Those who direct the projects may have to work even latter just to make sure the project
meets the deadline.
As a civil engineer there are many crossing career paths you can chose to be a Structural
engineer which can lead to you being a senior structural engineer, principal engineer
structural, or Structural Engineer, Roads and Bridges.

I would also be interested in teaching and educating the next generation of

engineers, passing on my knowledge and experience to help them become effective and
responsible practitioners. ―Any idiot can build a bridge that stands, but it takes an engineer
to build a bridge that barely stands. Imaginations more important than knowledge.
Knowledge is limited.‖ From the water we drink to the pavement we drive on to the
buildings we reside in, the work of civil engineers surrounds us all. Complex transport
systems connect points within a community. Road, air, sea, and rail networks span the entire
globe – thanks to the hands of civil engineers. Civil engineering makes trade, travel, the
exchange of ideas and information, healthcare, education, industry, and more possible.

Over the past few decades, our electricity demand has skyrocketed and it will
continue. Civil engineers will be at the forefront of developing structures that consume as
little energy as possible. As the world population surges, civil engineers will be responsible
for building structures that will support us all.
Without civil engineering, it‘s hard to imagine how the world we live in would look
like, but we can be certain that marvelous man-made structures that fill our landscape will be
absent. And as it stands, civil engineering will continue to play a role in human civilizations
far into the future.

My Journey
By: Alvior, Dan Rhial

My first journey begins in

August 19, 1997 that‘s the day I was
born. I don‘t have much memories in my
childhood since then so I will start in my
school days. I was really excited in my
first day of school. In my kindergarten
day I always excel in class some of my
teacher said that I was a prodigy child
and they always praise me. I was so
happy because it always feels so good
when someone is praising you. My
dream started when I see my uncles
work. Yes, he was a Civil Engineer. I
always look at his drawings and for a
mere child like me, I was totally amazed. And then that day I decided my dream job to
became a Civil Engineer justlike my uncle.
In my elementary days, I was enrolled in Baay Elementary School in Pangasinan. In
my Grade 1, I joined compete quiz bowls, spelling bee and compete in other school. My
teacher Ms. Alona Saringan she always trains my knowledge and I am always excited when I
get the first place because she always bought me Jollibee chicken joy if I won. I even reach
regional competition for quiz bowls. But sadly, I did not win that‘s when I realized that there
is always a person that much more intelligent than me. I was really upset that time and even
my parents cheer me up. They even let me play at school and also that time when I was
playing with other kids I fell in the stair of the stage of our gym. And my head bumps and it
was really painful. My parents bring me to the hospital and luckily, I‘m still alive.

After that day something really strange is happening to me. I really don‘t know but I
don‘t catch up in school lessons anymore. I became a slow learner it was like my brain is not
functioning it was hard and I was really frustrated. But I always believe that one day I will be
okay.
When I was in Grade 2, my parents decided to leave Pangasinan and we decided to
live in Koronadal, South Cotabato it was a new environment for me I was an introvert person
and I never leave my house since the day of my accident. My parents introduced me to my
cousins and I was really shy. My cousins also think I‘m weird cause I speak Tagalog but also,
they taught me to spoke Ilonggo and after 2 months I spoke fluently.
They enrolled me in Tampakan Central Elementary School in Tampakan, South
Cotabato. In my first day of school I was really afraid of my classmate because I always think
they bully transferees but unexpectedly they were very friendly of me and that‘s when I
started to think that Tampakan is not really a bad place.

In March 2010, I graduated my elementary degree and I also enjoyed it. I also
cherished the memories in my elementary days because I met some friends and I also learned
a lot from my teachers even though I am an average learner. My teacher always makes sure
that we learned our lessons or subjects. I am always thankful to them because they treat us as
their second children and it makes us very happy. That‘s the end of my journey of elementary
days.
In my highschool days. I was enrolled in Tampakan National High School (TNHS), in
my 1st year high school I was very nervous because I was in class section F yes, it was the
last section. I don‘t have any friends and I don‘t know everybody even my classmates in my
first day. But I was also surprise that they approach me first because I don‘t really approach
anybody in our classroom. And also, I always expected that last section has bullies but I was
wrong they were very friendly and very respectful. You can‘t always judge the book by its
cover they said.
But in my 2nd year highschool I was transferred in clas section A because I exceed in
my past class section. I was really surprised on my new classmates because they were really
competitive and I don‘t really have that spirit on me. So, they also motivate me to became a
competitive person. And I was in section A until I graduated high school in March 2014.
My father and I was finding a school for my college. We were riding a tricycle and we
were off to General Santos City. But unexpectedly, we discovered a school in Tupi
and also, I was really surprised because they have the Civil Engineering course. So, I
take the Civil Engineering entrance exam and luckily, I passed that‘s when my journey to
became a Civil Engineer begins. Thank you and God bless.

Innovations in Transportation Engineering

By: Alvior, Dan Rhial

Abstract:
Transportation engineering is a field that
aims to improve efficiency and sustainability in
the movement of people and goods. In this
article, we review several branches of
transportation engineering that are focused on
achieving these goals. We discuss Intelligent
Transportation Systems (ITS), Electric Vehicles,
Sustainable Transportation Planning, Public
Transportation, Advanced Materials, and
Connected and Autonomous Vehicles. These
branches of transportation engineering have the
potential to reduce emissions, improve safety,
and increase the efficiency of transportation
systems.
Introduction:
Transportation engineering is a field that is constantly evolving to meet the changing
needs of society. As the world's population continues to grow and urbanization increases,
there is a growing need for transportation systems that are efficient, safe, and sustainable. In
this article, we will review several branches of transportation engineering that are focused on
addressing these challenges.
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS):
ITS is a branch of transportation engineering that focuses on using technology, such as
sensors, cameras, and GPS, to improve the efficiency and safety of transportation systems.
Real-time traffic monitoring can help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow, for
example, by adjusting traffic light timings based on traffic flow.
Electric Vehicles: Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular and are being
integrated into transportation systems in many cities around the world. Electric vehicles, such
as cars and buses, can reduce emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. For example, electric
buses can reduce emissions and improve air quality in cities.
Sustainable Transportation Planning:
Sustainable transportation planning focuses on designing transportation systems that promote
sustainable practices, such as walking, biking, and public transit. The construction of bike
lanes and pedestrian walkways can encourage active transportation and reduce reliance on
cars. For example, many cities now have bike-sharing programs in place to provide an
alternative to cars for short trips.
Public Transportation: Public transportation is another branch of transportation engineering
that focuses on improving the efficiency and sustainability of public transportation systems,
such as buses, trains, and subways. The use of hybrid or electric buses can reduce emissions,
and the use of real-time information systems can improve the efficiency of public transit
systems. For example, many cities now have mobile apps that provide real-time information
about bus and train schedules, helping people plan their trips more efficiently.
Advanced Materials: Advanced materials is a branch of transportation engineering that
focuses on developing new materials for transportation infrastructure, such as pavements and
bridges, that are more durable, sustainable, and efficient. The use of recycled materials in
pavement construction can reduce the environmental impact of transportation infrastructure
projects. For example, many bridges now use advanced materials such as fiber-reinforced
polymer (FRP) composites to increase their strength and durability.
Connected and Autonomous Vehicles:
The development of connected and autonomous vehicles can improve safety, reduce
emissions, and increase the efficiency of transportation systems. Vehicles that can
communicate with each other and with infrastructure can improve traffic flow and reduce
congestion. For example, cars that can communicate with traffic lights can help reduce
stopand-go traffic, improving traffic flow and reducing emissions.
Conclusion:
Innovations in transportation engineering are necessary to address the challenges of
population growth, urbanization, and climate change. These innovations can help reduce
emissions, improve safety, and increase the efficiency of transportation systems. The
branches of transportation engineering discussed in this article have the potential to make
significant contributions in this regard. Further research and development in these areas will
be crucial in meeting the transportation needs of the future
"Aspiring Civil Engineer in Field"
By: Alvior, Dan Rhial

As a civil engineer, the field is vast and offers a plethora of opportunities for growth and
development. The field of civil engineering is responsible for designing, building, and
maintaining the infrastructure that supports modern society. This includes everything from
roads and bridges to buildings, airports, and water supply systems. As an aspiring civil
engineer, the possibilities are endless, and the impact that can be made on the world is
significant.
One of the most fundamental aspects of civil engineering is the design and construction of
infrastructure. This includes roads, bridges, and buildings, all of which are essential for
society to function. Civil engineers are responsible for designing these structures to be safe,
efficient, and durable. They must also consider factors such as cost, materials, and the
environment when designing a project. In the construction phase, civil engineers oversee the
construction process and ensure that the project is being built according to the design plans.
Another important aspect of civil engineering is the maintenance of existing infrastructure.
Civil engineers are responsible for inspecting and evaluating the condition of existing
structures and determining the necessary repairs or upgrades. This includes everything from
repairing potholes in roads to reinforcing aging bridges. It is crucial that the infrastructure is
maintained to ensure the safety of the public and to prevent costly failures in the future.
Water supply and management is another key area of civil engineering. Civil engineers design
and construct systems for the collection, treatment, and distribution of water. They also
design systems for the management of stormwater, which is essential for preventing flooding
and protecting the environment. In addition to designing and constructing new infrastructure,
civil engineers also play a critical role in the development of new technologies. This includes
everything from designing more efficient and sustainable systems to researching new
materials that can be used in construction. This is an exciting aspect of the field as it allows
civil engineers to push the boundaries of what is possible and make a positive impact on the
world.
As an aspiring civil engineer, it is essential to have a strong foundation in mathematics and
science. A bachelor's degree in civil engineering is typically required to enter the field, and
many universities offer programs specifically in civil engineering. In addition to formal
education, it is also important to gain practical experience through internships or co-op
programs. These opportunities allow students to gain hands-on experience in the field and
make connections with professionals in the industry.
Field civil engineers are responsible for overseeing the construction of various types of
infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges, airports, water and waste treatment facilities,
and buildings. They are also responsible for ensuring that the project is completed on time,
within budget and to the required quality standard.
Field civil engineers work closely with project managers, architects, and other engineering
professionals to ensure that projects are completed according to the design plans. They also
work closely with the construction crew to ensure that the work is being done safely and
efficiently. They are responsible for making sure that materials and equipment are delivered
on time, and that the site is properly prepared for construction. They also conduct regular
inspections of the work to ensure that it meets the required quality standards.
Field civil engineers must also be familiar with construction methods and materials. They
must be able to recommend the best methods and materials for a particular project, based on
factors such as cost, durability, and environmental impact. They must also be familiar with
the latest construction technologies and be able to incorporate these into their projects.
Field civil engineers must also be able to manage and control project costs. They must be able
to identify cost savings opportunities and find ways to reduce the overall cost of the project
without compromising on quality or safety. They are also responsible for maintaining
accurate records of project expenses, and for providing regular cost reports to the project
manager or client.
In conclusion, civil engineering is a challenging and rewarding field that offers endless
opportunities for growth and development. As an aspiring civil engineer, the impact that can
be made on the world is significant, and the possibilities are endless. With a strong foundation
in mathematics and science, a formal education, and practical experience, anyone can become
a successful civil engineer and make a positive impact on society.
The Journey
By: Gallego, Jericho

Once upon a time, there was a young boy

named Jerico Gallego. I was the youngest child of
two wealthy parents who doted on me endlessly. I
had everything I could ever want - the latest
technology, designer clothes, and a trust fund that
ensured I would never want for anything. As I
grew older, I became more and more entitled. I
expected the world to revolve around me and
would throw tantrums if things didn't go my way. I
constantly bragged about my
wealth and possessions to anyone who would
listen, never thinking about how it might make
others feel.
My parents, being overindulgent, never
corrected my behavior. They just kept showering
me with more and more material possessions,
hoping to keep me happy. But the more they gave
me, the more I wanted, and the more entitled I
became. One day, my parents decided to take me
on a trip to a developing country, to show me how
others lived. They hoped it would give me some
perspective on how fortunate I was. At first, I was unimpressed. I complained about the heat,
the lack of air conditioning and the "primitive" living conditions. But as they traveled further
into the country, I began to see the poverty and suffering that existed there. I saw families
living in overcrowded slums, children who were malnourished and uneducated. I realized that
my life of privilege had blinded me to the realities of the world.
My heart was filled with sadness and guilt. I knew I had to make a change. I started
volunteering at a local charity, using my wealth and privilege to help others. I also began to
appreciate the things I had in a different way. I had realized that money and possessions were
not what made me happy. Through my experiences, I learned that true happiness comes from
helping others and being grateful for what I had. I became a kinder, more empathetic person,
and my parents were proud of the person I had become. From that day on, I lived my life with
purpose, using my wealth and privilege to make the world a better place for all. I was no
longer the entitled rich kid I once was, but a responsible and compassionate young man.
In my elementary days I was enrolled in Tupi central School. Despite my privileged
upbringing, I was a lonely child. I was often teased and bullied by my classmates for my
wealth, and I struggled to fit in. I longed to make friends but didn't know how to go about it.
One day, my class was assigned a group project in which we had to create a model of a city.
The other students formed groups and left me out, assuming I wouldn't be interested in
working with them. But I was determined to be a part of the project and find a way to make
friends. My classmates were all wealthy and well-connected, and they often made fun of me
for my shyness and lack of interest in the social scene. I tried to ignore their taunts and focus
on my studies, but it was hard to shake the feeling of loneliness. I longed to find someone
who understood me and accepted me for who I was. One day, while I was sitting alone at
lunch, a new student named Sophia walked in to the cafeteria. She was different from the
other students; she was kind and friendly, and she seemed genuinely interested in getting to
know me. We quickly became friends, and I finally felt like I had found someone who
understood me.
In my High School Days, I was enrolled in Notre Dame Siena school of Marbel. At
school, I kept to myself and was often seen walking alone in the hallways. I didn't have many
friends, and the few I did have were mainly from my neighborhood. I was content with my
own company, and often spent my free time playing games or watching gaming tutorials.
Despite my introverted nature, I was a gifted student. I excelled in my classes and was
wellrespected by my teachers. I was also a talented gamer and had been playing games since I
was a child. I would often play games during lunchtime, but I never performed in front of
anyone.
As of now, I currently enrolled in South East Asian Institute of Technology Incorporated. As
I began my college years at a prestigious engineering course, I found that my introverted
tendencies served me well. I was able to focus deeply on my studies and quickly became one
of the top students in my class. I was also able to make a few close friends, but I was always
happiest when I was alone with my books and my engineering projects. Despite my success
in the classroom, I struggled to find my place in college life. I often felt out of place at social
events, and I had a hard time connecting with my classmates outside of the classroom. But I
was determined to make the most of my college experience, and I began to explore different
extracurricular activities

Transportation engineering graduates can follow careers in railway companies, public
transportation companies, local road administration, road and rail traffic design.

The main branches of transportation engineering are; traffic engineering, highway

engineering and airport engineering.

Transportation engineering offers technological knowledge as well as an

understanding of the economics, political and social factors.it ensures that‘s the transportation
systems contribute to the quality of life in the community.

PREFERD JOB AFTER BECOMING A CIVIL ENGINEER

Engineering is truly a difficult but creative profession. The profession in which a
knowledge of mathematical and science is gained through study, experience and practice is
applied to benefit the needs of mankind.
As a civil engineering student it takes a lot of hard work, courage and dedication in
order to stay on track, and taking this course is no joke. For staters I already dream to become
an engineer and got deceived by the words of my cousins who were a former civil
engineering students and now are licensed engineers. they also said that the hardest thing is
on ―how to survive‖ in this kind of profession and their not wrong, however I already made
up my mind that ill be taking this kind of profession and follow their footsteps.
The field of specialization that I choose to be on track with, as a civil engineering
student is being a SRTUCTURAL ENGINEER. We all know that structural civil engineer
plays an important role in our lives because they ensure the safety and stability of every
structure they plan and build. I choose this field because I know I have potential to draw,
perform calculation and solve problems. But I really need to practice myself in order to prove
and deserve to be in this kind of field to ensure the safety the lives of every citizens.
What Is Transportation Engineering?
Transportation engineering is a branch of civil engineering that involves the planning,
design, operation, and maintenance of transportation systems to help build smart, safe,
and livable communities.

Any system that moves people and goods from one place to another falls under the
scope of transportation engineering, which includes:

• Highways and roadways

• Railways
• Oil pipelines
• Public transport systems
• Traffic control systems
• Automated transport systems  Space transport systems

What Does a Transportation Engineer Do?

In planning projects, transportation engineers gather relevant data on the population in the
surrounding area, travel patterns, socioeconomic characteristics, laws and ordinances, and
financial resources.

• Draft design and construction plans for new transportation systems

• Investigate traffic problems and identify solutions
• Analyze engineering data and draw conclusions and recommendations
• Estimate project budgets for labor, materials, and equipment
• Discuss plans with contractors, local organizations, and the public
• Inspect completed projects to ensure safety and compliance to standards
• Model transportation systems to assess impact
• Oversee survey, staking, and layout of projects  Present reports and
proposals to stakeholders

FAMOUS TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER

Charles Adler Jr. (June 20, 1899 – October 23, 1980) was an American
inventor and engineer. He is most known for developing

devices meant to improve transportation safety, including sonically
actuated traffic lights, colorblind road signals, pedestrian push- buttons, and
flashing aircraft light

Early life and education[edit]

Adler was born to physician Harry Adler and Carolyn ―Carrie‖ Frank in Baltimore,
Maryland. As a child he exhibited a vivid imagination. For this reason, Adler‘s father
[1]

encouraged him to pursue inventing.

At age 14, he developed his first documented invention—an automobile brake—which he
received a patent for 5 years later.
After high school, Adler attended Johns Hopkins University to study engineering, but after
continuing to struggle with academics, he dropped out 2 years later. He served briefly in the
US Army training corps as an acting corporal during World War I until December 1918

Early career[edit]
In 1919, Adler began working for the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad (also known as
the Ma&Pa) as a telegrapher and assistant station agent. There, he began developing safety
and signaling devices, where he was later asked by railroad president OH Nance to look into
fixing the failing electric warning signals at railroad crossings. In response, Adler designed a
system that contained a warning light connected in parallel to the standard bells. This ensured
that even if the bells failed, the light would turn on and alert the driver to an oncoming train.
After the success of this system, Adler was promoted within the company to signal engineer
and was given resources for his own experiments and research.
For his first solo project, he set out to design a new flashing signal for grade crossings. In his
design, he created an automatically triggered system that flashed two lights alternatively in a
wigwag pattern when a train was approaching. This invention, called the Adler Flashing
Relay, received the American Railway Association‘s endorsement and was later adopted by
over 40 railroad companies.
After the success of his projects, Adler left the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad to
pursue invention full-time. However, he remained a signal consultant for the company
until 1957.[3]

Well-known inventions[edit]
Automatic speed control system[edit]
During his time at Ma&Pa, Adler kept a journal of potential invention ideas for a later date.
One of such ideas—the automatic speed-control system—became the focus of his career in
the 1920s. He conceived the idea for this automobile safety feature on October 1, 1924 and
had a working prototype by December 1925.
Adler‘s speed control system was based on the idea of car speed governors, but he believed
they should only be activated at particularly dangerous spots on the road. Adler‘s system
was composed of a series of bar magnets buried under the road 20 meters away from
dangerous spots. At speeds over 24 km/h, this magnet activated a series of relays
installed in the car which cut the car‘s ignition. Once the car had passed over a
similar second magnet, the ignition was restored, and the car would be able to accelerate
like normal.
Rather than manufacturing the invention himself, Adler decided to publicize his work in
hopes of finding a company to license it. He sold the idea to Baltimore and Ohio Railroad
and received positive reactions from other buyers. Adler contacted 600 newspapers,
magazines, and engineering journals, including Science Monthly and the New York
Evening Post, to run stories on his system. However, on December 15, 1926 his financial
investors suspended work until they could guarantee the support of the national
government. [2]

Sonically actuated traffic light[edit]

In the 1920s Adler worked on developing the sonically actuated traffic light. To operate it,
drivers pulled up to a red light and honked their horns to make the light change. The system,
designed for use on intersections between lightly traveled and major roads, was first installed
by Baltimore on February 22, 1928 at the intersection of Falls Road and then-Belvedere
Avenue (now Northern Parkway) and still stands today. Further production of this design was
picked up by General Electric, but Adler‘s traffic signal was beat out by another invention.
This was the first actuated traffic signal in the US and served as the basis for modern traffic
signals.[2]

of Charles Street and Cold Spring Lane in Baltimore. It was the first pedestrian-actuated
signal.
Adler left behind many inventions that were the first of their kind. He is credited with over
sixty patented inventions in the field of vehicular safety, some of which he transferred to the
government.
His motto was ―If they can save lives, I want everyone to have them.‖ Adler often donated
his patents to the government free of charge so that they could be publicly used and help
more
people.[3]

FAMOUS TRASNPORTATION PRODJECT

Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-
milewide (1.6 km) strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The structure
links the U.S. city of San Francisco, California—the northern tip of the San Francisco
Peninsula— to Marin County, carrying both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1
across the strait. It also carries pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and is designated as part of U.S.
Bicycle Route
95. Being declared one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of
Civil Engineers, the bridge is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San
[7]

Francisco and California. It was initially designed by engineer Joseph Strauss in 1917. The
bridge was named for the Golden Gate strait, the channel that it spans. [8]

The Golden Gate Bridge is described in Frommer's travel guide as "possibly the most
beautiful, certainly the most photographed, bridge in the world." At the time of its opening
[9][10]

in 1937, it was both the longest and the tallest suspension bridge in the world, titles it held
until 1964 and 1998 respectively. Its main span is 4,200 feet (1,280 m) and total height is 746
feet (227 m). [11]
Ferry service[edit]
Further information: Ferries of San Francisco Bay

Before the bridge was built, the only practical short route between San Francisco and what
is now Marin County was by boat across a section of San Francisco Bay. A ferry service
began as early as 1820, with a regularly scheduled service beginning in the 1840s for the
purpose of transporting water to San Francisco. [12]

The Sausalito Land and Ferry Company service, launched in 1867, eventually became the
Golden Gate Ferry Company, a Southern Pacific Railroad subsidiary, the largest ferry
operation in the world by the late 1920s. Once for railroad passengers and customers only,
[12][13]

Southern Pacific's automobile ferries became very profitable and important to the regional
economy. The ferry crossing between the Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco and Sausalito
[14]

Ferry Terminal in Marin County took approximately 20 minutes and cost

$1.00 per vehicle, a price later reduced to compete with the new
[when?]

bridge.[15][better source needed] The trip from the San Francisco Ferry Building took 27 minutes.
Many wanted to build a bridge to connect San Francisco to Marin County. San Francisco was the
largest American city still served primarily by ferry boats. Because it did not On February 4,
1929 Adler installed a pedestrian push button at the intersection a permanent link with
communities around the bay, the city's growth rate was below the national average. Many [16]

experts said that a bridge could not be built across the 6,700- foot (2,000-metre) strait, which had
strong, swirling tides and currents, with water 372 ft (113 m) deep at the center of the channel,
[17]

and frequent strong winds. Experts said thatferocious winds and blinding fogs
would prevent construction and operation. [16]
