COURSE DESCRIPTION
Art Appreciation is a three-unit course that develops students’ ability to appreciate, analyze, and
critique works of art. Through interdisciplinary and multimodal approaches, this course equips
students with a broad knowledge of the practical, historical, philosophical, and social relevance
of art in order to hone students’ ability to articulate their understanding of the arts. The course
also develops students’ competency in researching and curating art as well as conceptualizing,
mounting, and evaluating art productions. This course aims to develop students’ genuine
appreciation for Philippine arts by providing them opportunities to explore the diversity and
richness and their rootedness in Filipino culture.

GE 6 – Art Appreciation
1. In order to attend and comply all the course activities, each student shall have his or her
own internet connection, cellphone, or computer. Absence of any of those materials is
not a valid reason not to submit the course requirements during or one (1) week after the
set deadline of submission of the Instructor.
2. Each student shall enroll herself or himself in the Google classroom to access the course
materials, links, activities and assessments.
3. Upon enrollment in the Google classroom and joining the Facebook chat room, the
student shall use his or her official email and Facebook account explicitly stating the
name he or she used in the registration during the second semester enrollment of the
academic year 2020-2021.
4. Students may only send a message to the Instructor during office hours from 7:00 AM –
6:00 PM weekdays. The class Instructor has the prerogative not to reply to either
personal or group message during weekends unless such is deemed urgent and
necessary.
5. Submission of all coursework shall be done in the Google classroom.
6. To cope up with some of the challenges encountered by students in the new normal
education, the Instructor will allow late submission of coursework but not later than one
(1) week from the deadline set by the Instructor given that the reason is valid.
7. Nonetheless, the Instructor has the prerogative not to accept late submission of
classwork depending on the gravity of reason given by the student causing the delay of
such submission.
8. To maintain academic integrity amidst the pandemic, the Instructor may submit student
outputs in Turnitin Plagiarism Checker.
9. If the student intended to borrow ideas or findings from other authors, he or she is
expected to properly cite the piece of work in text through APA format and include it in
the list of references. Failure to do it may result to plagiarism.
10. Penalties for plagiarism and other forms of cheating will cost a 20-point deduction in the
total number of points accumulated by the student in submitting the coursework.
