After the Party (off the stage scene)


At the party in Judge Brack's house and in the drawing room, Mr. Tesman, Judge Brack,
and other visitors are sitting calmly after having dinner and enjoying themselves in the party,
and now they're listening very carefully to Elirt Lovborg, who is now reading from his own
manuscript to them. And after finishing his reading, they were all so amazed and fascinated
by what they'd listened to.
JUDGE BRACK
Why, man, how could you write something like this? It is literally a masterpiece!
Mr. TESMAN [with some jealousy]
Indeed, I didn't expect it would be that good.
EILERT LOVBORG [who is extremely happy]
Thank you, guys. You see, I have spent a lot of time and effort on it, and with the great help
of that brilliant woman who inspired me, she really has a good effect on me.
JUDGE BRACK
Yes, that is obvious. I bet this book will be even more successful than the previous one.
MR.TESMAN [Looks very annoyed and frustrated by hearing and trying to change the
subject]
Before it is too late, shall we all go have some coffee somewhere?
A GUEST
Yes, what a great idea! like having a coffee party?
MR TESMAN
Exactly.
JUDGE BRACK
Sorry, I am afraid I can't go. I'd rather be at home tonight. I am tired already.
MR.TESMAN
Unfortunately Judge I wanted you to come.
JUDGE BRACK
Next time.
And they all go out, except Judge Brack. They go along the way, but after some time, Mr.
Tesman was a little behind the rest.
MR.TESMAN [Spotting something on the roadside]
What is that over there?
[Coming to it and picking it up, looking closely]
Good lord! It is Lovborg's manuscript! [whispering to himself, then hiding it quickly in his
pocket] Well, of course, I will return back it to him, but not now.

[Eilert Lovborg and a few others go through another way while Tesman and the rest go to
have coffee]
EILERT LOVBORG [after having a good soiree with others in some place and while he's
going home]
Oh! What a long, long day it was! And of course, with my special manuscript [putting his
hand in his empty pocket, finding out it's not there]
[Sobbing] My dear manuscript! no way! Where is it?! [after a moment of thinking] AHA! It
should be with her that vile theif!
[He is hurring as much as he can, going back to Mademoiselle Diana's room, which is really a
long way to run]
EILERT LOVBORG [ very angrily]
You! You've robbed my manuscript, haven't you?
When you saw that, I'd changed and become a better and more successful person, right?
MADEMOISELLE DIANA [surprised]
Wait! What are you talking about? what manuscript? I don't understand!
EILERT LOVBORG
Don't pretend you don't know; I know you did it.
MADEMOISELLE DIANA
Are you out of your senses? Get out of here now!
EILERT LOVBORG
Not before you give me back what you've taken. Don't you know it's like my baby?
MADEMOISELLE DIANA
Are you crazy? I've never taken anything from you!
They ended up arguing really loudly and hurting each other a little, so a lot of people are
gathering and trying to stop them, and finally the police come and end all this.
