Water Safety Survival refers to the
knowledge, skills, and practices
necessary to prevent accident and
ensure survival in and around bodies
of water. It includes understanding
the risks associated with water
activities and implementing measures
to prevent accidents and respond
effectively in case of emergencies.
Water safety survival encompasses
various aspects, including swimming skills, awareness of potential hazards, knowing how to use
safety equipment, and understanding rescue techniques.

Here are some key elements of water safety survival:

1. Swimming Skills: Learning how to swim is essential for water safety. It involves acquiring
proper swimming techniques, such as floating, treading water, and different strokes.
Basic swimming skills enable individuals to move safely and efficiently in the water and
increase their chances of survival.
2. Awareness of Water Hazards: Understanding the potential dangers of different water
environments, such as pools, oceans, lakes, or rivers, is crucial. Being aware of rip
currents, undertows, submerged objects, and sudden changes in water conditions can
help people avoid risky situations.
3. Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs): Wearing appropriate personal flotation devices, such
as life jackets or buoyancy aids, is vital especially for non-swimmers. PFDs can provide
buoyancy and keep individuals afloat, giving them time to seek assistance or remain safe
in the water.
4. Supervision and Buddy System: Always swim or engage in water activities with a
designated buddy or under the supervision of a responsible adult. Having someone
nearby increases overall safety and ensures that immediate help is available in case of
an emergency.
5. Emergency Response: Being prepared to respond to water-related emergencies is
crucial. Learning basic rescue techniques, such as reaching or throwing assists, and
knowing how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) can significantly improve
the chances of saving lives.

Water safety survival is essential for everyone, regardless of age or swimming ability. By
practicing and promoting water safely, individuals can enjoy water activities responsibly
and reduce the risk of accidents or drowning incidents.
First Rule of water safety: LEARN TO SWIM--- Encourage all adults and children in your
family to learn at least basic swimming skills.
