With profound gratitude and humility. I take this opportunity to thank all the staff
members of MAHAYA PRIMARY SCHOOL - including the teaching and non-teaching staff for
the much needed favorable and peaceful condition plus the teaching and learning resources
they have granted us to show our prowess as top-notch primary educators in the country,
more so to Our unrivalled Head teacher -Mr.Joseph O. Odek, not forgetting the dedicated
C.B.C pupils of Mahaya primary school and pupils and the staff members of the SMART
TUITION CENTER. May our good Lord continue Blessing you.

This we hope is just but the first detailed CBC reference pocketbook among the soon
coming revision kits for other learning areas (subjects). As a team of dedicated educators we
promise to work day and night for the sake of our candidates -Grade six who will be the first
lot to sit their final national assessment (Kenya Primary School Education Assessment-
K.P.S.E.A.) under the new 2:6:3:3:3 rather (2:6:6:3) system of education in Kenya today.

As a matter of urgency the booklet include hand written scripts that we hope shall be
typed soon in another even more detailed edition.

STRAND 1: ATHLETICS: Track

Types of start

i. Bunch start/bullet
Safety measures to be observed during bunch start
- Remove any object on the track
- Follow the rules
- Wear proper PHE attire during the activity
- Follow instructions given by the teacher/referee

PICK AND RUN RACE

Pick and run race is a game in which;


i. Two teams are formed
ii. Each of these teams form two groups and a starting point is marked as shown
iii. One runner from each group stand at the starting point, on the other end
two runners each from group 3 and another group 2 who will run back
iv. While at the bunch start position pick a beanbag and run with it, drop it on
reaching a team mate.
v. The learners in the second group starts racing back once the beanbag is
dropped to them.

Finishing techniques

Drop finish technique is a method of finishing the race in which the athlete bends pushes
both arm backwards and steps to the finish line.

Shoulder shrug technique is a finishing technique in which the athlete bends one shoulder
so that his chest is turned sideways as it touches the tape or crosses the finish line.

Methods of baton exchange in relay

1. visual here the baton exchange occur when the outgoing athlete looks back when
receiving baton
Advantages of visual method
- Athlete is protected of crowding exchange
- There is less chance of baton knocked out

Disadvantages of visual exchange

- Leads to wastage of time


- Leads to the dropping of the button
2. non-visual/blind pass here the button exchange occur when the outgoing athlete is
not looking back to receive baton
Advantages of non-visual method
- Enable an athlete to run on a straight line course
- Prevents collision
- Enable smooth continuo us
movements

- Reaching forward too soon with baton
- Lack of balance due to one hand holding the button
- Not remaining in your lane after baton exchange
