Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Risk assessment for water proofing
Contract
No.

Note: Risk assessment is based on method statement attachment.

In order to determine the risk of a hazard, multiply its likelihood rating by its severity rating. The higher the score, the higher the risk is and the higher the
hazard's priority for workplace precautions or other actions. These ratings have to be subjective. They depend on your judgment given your knowledge at
the time. Further, they are not absolute, 0 does not mean it can never happen. Note that if there is zero likelihood or zero severity, the hazard will have zero
risk. The law says that risks should be reduced “so far as is reasonably practicable”.
Since risk = likelihood x severity, there are only three basic ways of reducing risk.

1. Reduce the likelihood

2. Reduce the severity
3. Reduce both the likelihood & the severity

3.2 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

 Structural cast in-situ reinforced concrete slab should be dry and clean from construction debris.

3.2.1 Application of Waterproofing Membrane (Horizontal):

 The surface to be waterproofed must be thoroughly cleaned. All parts liable to come off
must be removed. The same should be applied to all laying surface protrusions.

 Prime the substrate to receive the waterproofing system, allow this coating to dry thoroughly.
In time of high humidity, it should be left overnight.

 When primer is dry, the actual installation may start. Installation is performed using a cylinder-
fed propane gas torch, a trowel to seal the seams of the membranes and a knife for cutting
the membranes, if necessary.

 The membrane should be placed in the correct torching on position.

 The membrane is then re-rolled for about a half of its length without changing its orientation.

 The membrane is then unrolled again and torched-on by means of propane gas torch.

 The same operation is repeated for the second half of the membrane.

 The second roll to be placed in position is the one adjacent to first. At minimum of 10cm
overlapping seams are needed and 15cm wide staggered end laps. Installation is performed
following the previously described procedures.

 This operation is repeated until the entire surface is covered. The torch has to be carefully used
avoiding to keep the flame on the same point for too long so as to prevent thermal
degradation of polymers and bitumen of the mixture.

 The waterproofing membranes shall be extended 200mm beyond the perimeter limit of raft
foundation, so that to allow enough membrane extension required for proper connection to
the vertically applied waterproofing membranes in later stage.

 Repeat the same procedure to apply a second layer of APP waterproofing membrane and
as per the detail below to comply with the project requirements.

CONSTRUCTIONS USE:

polyboard differs from any other materials.

It is made from (polypropylene) used to
protect the waterproofing membrane.
polyboard is extremely strong in puncture
and injury resistance It is engineered to
resist punctures.
enjoys flexibility which enables to use for
tacking corners , protrusions , rounded
surfaces and also uneven.
PP board protects retaining walls , planter
boxes , lift pit walls and general areas that
are going to be subjected practices and
backfill.
PP Board protects walls, rooftops, floors,
furniture, in fact virtually any surface you
wish to protect also used as a protection
boards for various finishes and others
during constructions phases.

ADVANTAGE:

 Protects membrane from impacts.

 Suited for vertical and horizontal

applications.

 Simple adhesive or tape fixing.

 Light weight and easy to transport

and handle.

 Cost effective.

 Multiple use.
APPLICATIONS:
PP Protection Board is applied on hot asphalt
liquid membranes, torched applied asphalt
membranes and on rubber based waterproofing
membranes.

1. Hot applied liquid membrane: Board is simply

laid down on top of hot asphalt before it cools
down.

2. Torched applied asphalt membrane: before

application of Board, the exposed side of the
membrane shall be lightly torched in separate
spots. When the top exposed layer of the
membrane changes into a sticky shiny layer,
Board protection boards are applied with gentle
pressure.

3. Rubber waterproofing membrane: a solvent

based glue (Patex or similar) is applied as an
adhering agent between the waterproofing
membrane and the protection board.

4. PP Board is also used as a protection boards

for various finishes. And others during
constructions phases.

FEATURES:
PP Board uses in order to increase impact and low
temperature performance. It retains the ability to be
flexed an unlimited number of times without breaking.
It is chemically inert, with a NIL pH factor and most
oils, solvents and water have no effect. Performs well
