acceptable
1.3.1 Sub-Contractor:
All waterproofing items including torch-applied membrane & accessories, will be carried out
by BKS.
Site Engineer shall be responsible for supervision of construction activities and ensure that work
is done as per specification and approved drawings and all safety measures are
implemented.
Ensure that all trades are provided with necessary details of related types of work. Before starting
each new type or section of work, ensure that:
Previous, related work is appropriately complete, in accordance with the project documents,
to a suitable standard and in a suitable condition to receive the new work.
All necessary preparatory work has been carried out, including provision for services, openings,
supports, fixings, damp proofing, priming and sealing.
The environmental conditions are suitable, particularly that the building is suitably weather tight
when internal components, services and finishes are installed.
Workers must be appropriately skilled, trained and experienced for the type and quality of work.
Take all necessary precautions to prevent damage to the work from sun, rain and other hazards.
Inspect components and products carefully before fixing or using and reject any which are
defective.
Adjust location and fixing of components and products so that joints which are to be finished
with sealant or otherwise left open to view are even and regular.

2.1.2 "IZOMAKS GOLD" Bituminous membrane reinforced with polyester, modified with SBS (Styrene
butadiene Styrene). Because of its high quality and durability all areas requiring waterproofing
are safer with modified with high performance SBS polymer with polyester reinforcement 200
gr/m2 has been designed for high-end construction thanks to its long-lived structure.
2.1.3 "Geomatt NPS 14" or "IZOFELT" Protection layer of non-woven geotextile 200 gr/m².
2.1.6 Protection boards "ADPLAST" Protection board 4mm thick, spot bonded onto vertically applied
waterproofing membrane.
2.1.10 Soft Bristle Broom – to push the membrane against the substrate.
2.1.11 Fire Extinguisher – Needed in case of fire for the safety of the
labor's.
2.3.1 All products have a shelf life of 12 months if stored in a cool, dry store, away from sources of
heat, in the original unopened packing. It should be stored vertically and care as to be taken
not to damage them.
2.3.2 For the primer; for handling open and handle receptacle with care. Flammable mixtures with air
can be formed in emptied containers. Do not puncture, cut, drill, heat or weld uncleaned drums.
Store in original containers. Storage one common facility, keep ignition sources away – Do not
smoke. Use only in explosion protected area.
2.3.3 Follow the project safety procedures and regulations while loading and off-loading the materials
at the job site.
2.3.4 All materials should be inspected by QC prior released from store and to be used at site.
2.3.6 Where approval of a product is specified or requested during the works the establishment of
MAR is obligatory.
2.3.8 Do not confirm orders or use the product until approval of the material / sample has been
obtained.
3 EXECUTION
3.1 PRE-APPLICATION
3.1.1 BKS specialist contractor experienced in the correct installation and procedures of
Manufacturer’s Products will install the waterproofing system.
3.1.2 Concrete up stands shall be dry, clean and smoothly finished, CMU (Concrete Masonry Units)
up stands must be properly plastered smoothly finished.
3.1.3 Establish mortar cantstrip at junction lines between horizontal and vertical surfaces.
3.1.4 Up stands edge lines should be slightly chamfered and smoothly finished.
3.1.4 Establish mortar cones around the bases of service pipes protruding from roof slab if there is any.
3.1.6 Water drains base ring must come flush with the screed top face, at the same level of
waterproofing membrane to allow for free discharge of water.

3.1.7 BKS is to approve the conditions of the substrates prior to the application of the waterproofing.
If necessary, Contractor shall rectify conditions as necessary to obtain the manufacturer’s
representative’s approval.
3.1.8 BKS representative shall verify that the installation complies with the waterproofing
manufacturer’s requirements and shall prevent entry of water into the building and structural
components so that the installation can be guaranteed.
Structural cast in-situ reinforced concrete slab should be dry and clean from construction debris.
The surface to be waterproofed must be thoroughly cleaned. All parts liable to come off
must be removed. The same should be applied to all laying surface protrusions.
Prime the substrate to receive the waterproofing system, allow this coating to dry thoroughly.
In time of high humidity, it should be left overnight.
When primer is dry, the actual installation may start. Installation is performed using a cylinder-
fed propane gas torch, a trowel to seal the seams of the membranes and a knife for cutting
the membranes, if necessary.

The membrane is then unrolled again and torched-on by means of propane gas torch.
The same operation is repeated for the second half of the membrane.
The second roll to be placed in position is the one adjacent to first. At minimum of 10cm
overlapping seams are needed and 15cm wide staggered end laps. Installation is performed
following the previously described procedures.

This operation is repeated until the entire surface is covered. The torch has to be carefully used
avoiding to keep the flame on the same point for too long so as to prevent thermal
degradation of polymers and bitumen of the mixture.
The waterproofing membranes shall be extended 200mm beyond the perimeter limit of raft
foundation, so that to allow enough membrane extension required for proper connection to
the vertically applied waterproofing membranes in later stage.
Repeat the same procedure to apply a second layer of APP waterproofing membrane and
as per the detail below to comply with the project requirements.

FEATURES:
PP Board uses in order to increase impact and low
temperature performance. It retains the ability to be
flexed an unlimited number of times without breaking.
It is chemically inert, with a NIL pH factor and most
oils, solvents and water have no effect. Performs well
under adverse weather conditions or when exposed
to harsh chemicals.
Polypropylene Protection Board performs well
under adverse weather conditions or when
exposed to harsh chemical.

approximately 70 °F (21 °C); remove prior to using. For
best performance, Sikaflex Construction Sealant should
be gunned into joint when joint slot is at mid-point of its
designed expansion and contraction. Place nozzle of gun
into bottom of the joint and fill entire joint. Keep the
nozzle in the sealant, continue on with a steady flow of
sealant preceding the nozzle to avoid air entrapment.
Avoid overlapping of sealant to eliminate entrapment of
air. Tool as required. Joint dimension should allow for
