Grade Level Standards The learner demonstrates communicative competence through his/ her understanding of British-American
Literature, including Philippine Literature and other texts types for a deeper appreciation of Philippine Culture and
those of other countries.
I. Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. Identify the features of casual dialogue
b. Give appropriate communicative style of casual situations
c. Value the significance of knowing the appropriate communication to a certain situation

Game: What’s in the Picture?
Game description:
1. The teacher will show pictures in the class.
2. The students will describe each picture.

C. Lesson Proper

1. ACTIVITY: It’s in the Jumbled Letters!


Directions:
a. The teacher will divide the class into 2 groups.
b. Each group will receive an envelope that contains material for the activity.
c. Inside each envelope are jumbled letters.
d. The students need to form a word out from the jumbled letters.
e. The first group to paste the correct answer on the board will be declared as the winner.

Rules:
1. Go to your group quietly.
2. Form a circle.
3. Do not drag the chairs.
4. Avoid close contact with your groupmates and maintain social distancing.
5. Minimize your voice while doing your group activity.
6. Do not hesitate to ask questions to your teacher.
7. Be respectful. Be quiet while other groups are performing.
8. You will be given only 3 minutes for this activity.
9. After that, return to your seats properly.

CASUAL COMMUNICATIVE STYLE

This is an informal communication style usually used between friends, groups, and peers, or even insiders who
have things to share and
have shared background information but do not have close relations.

Take note of the features of CASUAL dialogue:


Jokes and humor.
Slang language: “Wow,” “That’s cool.”
Informal abbreviations.
Use of abbreviations or slang symbols rather than complete words in writing.
The speaker allows the listener to interrupt and participate in the conversation.
Use of contractions: “That’s true,” “What’re you up to?” “Where’d she go?” “That’s great.”

4.APPLICATION: Connecting Lives

Consider this situation:


A student received academic recognition from the school. How do you think a supportive parent would speak to
the child? Would others, such as a friend or teacher, speak to the child in the same manner?

In a group of three;
Each group will create a ONE-MINUTE dialogue for each situation as written below.
Each group will select three pairs to present the following:
 Student – Parent
 Student – Friend
 Student – Teacher
Each group will be given 10 minutes to craft the dialogue.

dialogues.
