2. Please reply to the questions below in electronic format.

The hypothetical master’s thesis project is not binding if admitted to the master’s degree.

• Which guided choice (second year) are you interested in (either Sustainable Automation,
Sustainable Energy and Industry, Sustainable Design and Manufacturing) and why?

I am interested in selecting the Sustainable Energy and Industry guided choice for my second year.
Having spent almost 1.5 years in the Power sector, I believe this choice aligns with the critical role
energy plays in every facet of the modern world. The current dependence on finite resources like
fossil fuels is not a sustainable solution for meeting the increasing needs of both humanity and the
environment.

I am motivated to explore sustainable alternatives to address this challenge. Sustainable Energy and
Industry offer the opportunity to delve into innovative solutions that not only address the current
issues but also contribute to a more environmentally friendly and resilient future. This aligns with my
professional background and personal commitment to being part of positive changes in the energy
landscape. I look forward to gaining deeper insights into sustainable practices and contributing
meaningfully to this crucial field.

• Describe your hypothetical Master thesis project: What would you want to explore? Please limit
your answer to one topic (it must be your own personal proposal).

I would like to explore Green Hydrogen Technology as the subject of my hypothetical Master's thesis project. The
motivation behind this choice stems from my previous experience working on its application in gas turbines.
Green hydrogen technology is an emerging and innovative field that holds immense potential in addressing
environmental concerns and contributing to sustainable energy solutions.

The focus of my thesis would be to delve into the efficiency, scalability, and economic viability of Green
Hydrogen as an alternative energy source, with a particular emphasis on its integration into gas turbine systems
and in engines. This exploration would involve assessing the technology's performance, environmental impact,
and potential challenges and opportunities for widespread adoption.

By undertaking this research, I aim to contribute valuable insights to the ongoing discourse on sustainable energy
solutions, particularly in the context of utilizing Green Hydrogen in gas turbine applications. This thesis project
aligns with my passion for advancing environmentally friendly technologies and addressing the global energy
transition towards more sustainable practices.

• Summarize in a maximum of 250 words your BSc thesis work or final assignment/project. Please
include information about the workload, research area and your own personal contribution to the
project.

For my BSc thesis project, we focused on addressing the escalating cooling demands and subsequent
energy requirements. Traditional air conditioning and cooling systems exhibit high power
consumption and are environmentally unsustainable. The challenge was to develop an energy-
efficient and eco-friendly cooling solution to meet the increasing space cooling needs.

The project centered on implementing Dew-Point Indirect Evaporative Cooling using the
Maisotsenko cycle, a method with the potential to achieve sub-wet bulb temperatures without
adding humidity to the product air. To further enhance the water footprint, a filter assembly
comprising hydrophobic and hydrophilic sheets was integrated at the exhaust air outlet of the
Maisotsenko cycle air cooler.

My personal contribution went beyond the standard workload, as our dedicated supervisor, Dr.
Muzzafar, engaged us daily, providing guidance throughout the project. We initiated our work well
before the officially allocated time, as the project involved designing a new unit with modifications. I
took a lead role in not only the fabrication process but also in the design phase, conceptualizing the
product. Additionally, I conducted Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses for the duct used in
the system to optimize water footprint considerations.

The calculated values demonstrated wet bulb and dry bulb effectiveness falling within the range of
0.71 to 0.84 and 0.48 to 0.62, respectively. Coefficient of Performance (COP) values ranged from 10
to 12, with potential for improvement by extending the length of the unit. Overall, my BSc thesis
work involved a comprehensive exploration of energy-efficient cooling technologies with a focus on
sustainable practices and innovative design solutions.
