Session No. and Title 1.

FINDING ZEROS OF POLYNOMIAL FUNCTIONS

Duration 2 hours
Target Participants Grade 10 Mathematics Teacher
Link to the Previous Session/Topic The session provided the participants with basic knowledge about finding the zeros of polynomial functions using
synthetic and factor theorem as reflected in the Curriculum Guide This will give them a clearer and a better
understanding about the topic.

Link to the Next Session/Topic The session will provide them on how to find the zeros of polynomial functions using:

 Different Techniques in finding zeros of polynomial functions easier.

How does this contribute to the The goal of this session is to help the G10 Math teachers to link or connect their activities to their objectives and
program outcomes? adopt easier strategies and techniques in finding zeros of polynomial functions to their respective classes.

Learning Objectives At the end of the session the participants will be able to find zeros of polynomial functions easier using different
techniques:
 crisscross
 factorization
 cubic tricks
 box method
 grouping

Key Understandings Provides different activities in understanding and achieving the objectives of the session.

METHODOLOGY/STAGE KEY POINTS TOOLS/ RESOURCES SLIDE TIME

NUMBER ALLOTMENT

INTRODUCTION Greet the participants and make them feel good and comfortable. 1-2 5 mins

PRIMING Say: 3 - 16 11 mins

Task 1: (Guess it, to Get it)  Who among here likes to travel? Who do you want to
travel with? What particular place is on your bucket list?
What is the most important thing you will not forget to
bring for you to capture and record your travel? If so,
what do you usually do for you to have a memories of
your travel?

Do:
 The facilitator will group the participants into 5
(groupings can be adjusted if the number of participants
is large).
 The facilitator will explain the mechanics of the activity in
which the groups l need to guess the pictures presented
as fast as they can to get the point.
 Whoever group who will guess the right answer will get
the point. If ever the first to guess the pictures answers
incorrectly, the other group will have the chance to steal
and give their answers.
 The group who will get the most number of points will be
the winner.
17 2 mins
After revealing the topic, the facilitator will present the objectives
of the session.

At the end of the session the participants will be able to find

zeros of polynomial functions easier using different techniques:
 crisscross
 factorization
 cubic tricks
 box method
 grouping method

ACTIVITY  For the task 1, the facilitator will tell the participants to Manila paper, Pentel Pen, 17-19 25 mins
Task 2: use the same grouping as they do the activity. Masking Tape
“I-Synthetic Mo, I- Factor  Mechanics of the activity will explain by the facilitator as
theorem Mo To!” projected on the slide deck
 The activity must work on by the group and presented it
hereafter the allotted time.
 The group who gained the highest point will be declared
as the winner.

Ask:
 What can you say about the process you used in finding
the zeros of the polynomial functions?
 Is it applicable to all kinds of polynomials when it comes
in finding the zeros?
 Does it helped you to easily find the zeros of polynomial
functions?
 Do you think there are still some methods in which you
can find the zeros of polynomial functions aside from the two
usual methods you used awhile ago?

ANALYSIS  In this part, the facilitator will discuss the different Whiteboard, marker 20-22 25 mins
techniques in finding the zeros of polynomial functions.
 Set of examples will be shown using the different
techniques in finding zeros of polynomial functions.
Task 3: Say: Cellphone / laptop, 23-26 20 mins
“Hanapin si POZE”  After having the whole day of work and activities, internet
relaxing is very essential to us, right? Many people say that
“there’s no place like home”. And our home is the most

secured hideout where we can do the most memorable
bonding we can have with our loved ones. And one form of
relaxing which is so popular to the generations nowadays is
to play a game in any gadget.
 Afterwards, the facilitator will ask the participants if they
want to play a game.

At this point, the facilitator will instruct the participants to play the
game intended for this activity.

Do:
 Tell the participants (by group) to click the link shared by
the facilitator.
 At a time, tell each group that they will start playing the
game the moment the facilitator will say the “go” signal.
 Tell also the mechanics of the game.
 The facilitator will ask questions after the game.
ABSTRACTION The purpose of this part is not to have a usual way of 27-38 20 mins
Task 4: summing up the lesson thru aristocratic method but to have the
“ZERO PUZZLE: The Fastest generalization of the lesson in a form of puzzle game.
Zero Giver”
Mechanics:
 The facilitator will give sets of questions about finding the
zeros of polynomial functions in which each group needs to
answer as fast as they can.
 Whoever group give the answer correctly, have the
chance to call the group that will answer the question under
the zeros of Polynomial Function.
 The process will repeat until all the questions have been
answered.
 Whoever group who did not answer the question since

they are the fastest one to give the zeros of the polynomial
function will be the winner.

Note: The facilitator may ask some more questions which

deemed necessary to create a more intelligent understanding
about the lesson.

APPLICATION This is the last task of the session. Using the same Cellphone/ Laptop, 39 10 mins
Task 5: groupings, the participants will answer the questions in the Internet
“KAHOOT – an TIME!” Kahoot. Whoever group gained the highest score will be the
winner.
CLOSURE As closure, the facilitator will flash this quotation: “Indeed, life 40-41 2 mins
is like a polynomial, many terms to consider, many functions to
be done. Difficulties and challenges are always part of it. There
are times that we experienced the zero point of our life. Never
give up, instead look for methods or ways that will help us in
finding solutions to these zeros of life, for somehow, this will
shape us to a better person in the future”.
