1. ABOUT THE ASSESSMENT

1.1 Purpose of Assessment:

➢ Assist the student(s) in achieving proficiency in the specific outcomes evaluated in the module at an
early stage.
➢ Offer a comprehensive outline of every Learning Unit that will be taught in the module.
➢ Familiarize the students with the ECSA Graduate Attributes (GA) and their requirements.

1.2 Who is ECSA?

ECSA is the statutory body for the engineering profession in South Africa which aims at promoting a high
level of education and training of practitioners, professionalism in the engineering profession, and interest in
the profession in the country that you will register with at some point after you have graduated as a civil
engineering Candidate Technician before being a Professional.

1.3 GA assessed:

communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with engineering audiences and the community at large.

A Marking Rubric attached in Annexure 1 below will be used to assess your work.
A subminimum of 50% must be achieved. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the student being
given a second opportunity to redo the work, thereafter, only a maximum of 50% will be recorded, even if
achieved more than 50%.

Breakdown of the task to be completed:

Task1:
You will be allocated a Learning Unit/topic from the WTE1501 Study Guide, which you must study and report

Assessment 1 Brief).
3. Read the allocated topic in the Study Guide and/or prescribed book if referred to the prescribed book.
4. Compile the presentation (PowerPoint).
5. Upload your presentation as a PDF file (you must still use MS Presentation or the package that you have,
but then you must thereafter save it as PDF to upload it).
6. Save your presentation as your First Name and Surname.
7. Thereafter, you will be allocated a slot to present your work.
8. Questions will be asked during the presentations.

2. 20% is for attending the presentation sessions as required (to be finalized). Do not login as a guest, set up
your MS Teams using your Unisa Student Details.
3. 40% is for presentation.

Important to note:
· You cannot present if you did not submit your presentation under the Assessment 1 portal.
· Attending only will result in a maximum mark of 20% which is less than 50%.
· Know how to share the screen on MS Teams.

You will NOT fail the module if you fail assessment 1 BUT you will be retained if you fail the practical
