e) Meals
Meals at the University are handled strictly on a cash basis - this means that you will have available only what you
have paid into your meal account.
It is therefore important for students to ensure that there is sufficient cash in their meal accounts for purchases.
Students pay only for meals taken. Payments for meal accounts must be made to the NWU VENDING bank account.
Residence and non-residence students are welcome to have meals in the residence dining halls.
Meals can be paid via their university cards or debit- and credit cards. Provision for meals can be calculated at an
estimated average of R150 per day.
BANK INFORMATION:
(E-mail proof of payment to NWU-Bankdeposit@nwu.ac.za)
The NWU STUDENT bank accounts are for the payment of Class, Residence, and Other fees.
The NWU VENDING bank accounts are EXCLUSIVELY for meals.
(In terms of the National Credit Act, 34 of 2005, compound interest at 4% above the prime lending rate of the University's bankers, calculated from the date on
which they were due, will be calculated on all amounts in arrear. This interest rate does not exceed the maximum rate as prescribed in this Act.)
* A cost estimate for study and boarding fees for an ensuing year can at most be done on a pro forma basis. This means that the cost estimate is
done approximately and only to set out minimum requirements to enable students and/or bursars and/or financial institutions to conclude a certain
decision or transaction, subject to the later finalization of the actual fees.
The cost estimate is therefore only a guideline and not a formal offer/agreement or invoice. This pro forma cost estimate is given when no formal
agreement between two parties has been reached yet so that the estimate is done in anticipation of the conclusion of a transaction. In the higher
education context, no agreement is entered into between the NWU and the student before the student is registered as such with the NWU. The
student may be accepted beforehand as part of a logistical exercise, but an agreement is only concluded when the student registers with the NWU
and for the specific other services.
In anticipation of this agreement, the NWU may issue a pro forma estimate indicating the expected cost, subject to final determination. Only when
the student has been registered and a formal statement is presented to him for payment will the correct amount payable be indicated.
