Atria Each of the two upper cavities
of the heart (singular: atrium)
Ventricles The two lower chambers of the
heart
Septum A muscle wall that divides the
left and right atrium (Atrial
septum), as well as the left and
right ventricle (Ventricular
septum)
Valves Prevent the backward flow of
blood. flaps that are located on
each end of the ventricles. They
act as one-way inlets of blood
on one-way outlets of blood on
the other side.
Arteries Carry oxygen-rich blood from
the heart to the rest of your
body.
Veins Carry low-oxygenated blood
from the rest of the body back
to the heart.
Arterioles Small branches of the arteries,
that branch out into capillaries.
Capillaries Smallest blood vessels that
facilitate substance exchange
with the different tissues.
Venules Tiny veins that receive blood
from capillaries.
