The learners demonstrate The learners should be able to develop a written (S8FE-Ia-16)
understanding of Newton’s three plan and implement a “Newton’s Olympics” The learners should be able to
laws of motion and uniform investigate the relationship between the
circular motion. amount of force applied and the mass of
the object to the amount of change in
objects motion.
Objectives:
1. Describe the motion of an object
moving in a circular path.
2. Using diagrams, determine the
direction of the force, acceleration and
velocity of an object moving around a
circular path.
II-CONTENT Module I: FORCES AND MOTION
Lesson 1: Laws of Motion in Uniform circular Motion
III- LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide Page/s : pp. 5 - 8
2. Learner’s Materials Pages : pp. 17
3. Textbook Pages:
4. Additional Materials from learning Resources(LR) portals:
____1. When you dive off of a diving board, you push down on the springboard. The board
springs back and forces you into the air.
____2. You are driving your car at a very high speed and hit something, like a brick wall or a
tree, the car will come to an instant stop, but you will keep moving forward.
____3.It is easier to push an empty shopping cart than a full one, because the full shopping
cart has more inertia (mass) than the empty one.
Note: When an object is acted upon by a net force, it accelerates –it changes its state of
motion. So when a force acts on an object, the following may happen:
•It moves from being at rest
•It stops from being in motion
•It changes its speed (speed up or slow down)
•Maintains constant speed but changes its direction
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson -Introduce the new lesson (Let the learners read the objectives of the new lesson)
C. Presenting illustrative examples/instances of Ask the students: Are familiar with A wall of death? If not watch this video.
the lesson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ2f675LgMQ
Then ask: How are the daredevils able to perform the “Wall of Death” stunt?
D. Discussing the new concepts and practicing Group the students into four and let them perform the Marble lift activity.
new skills#1 Marble Lift Challenge (15 minutes)let the students Lift the marble with an inverted wine glass
or a wide-mouthed jar.
Guide questions:
1.What enabled you to lift the marbles without touching the marbles?
2.What kind of motion is required to lift the marbles?
3.Is it necessary to sustain the motion of the marbles inside the jar to keep it from
falling? What would happen to the marble if this motion suddenly stopped?
4.As the marble moves around the jar, how many forces are acting on it?
5.Draw the forces ACTING ON the marble while moving inside the jar. Use ½
Manila Paper to Draw your illustration
Students will be rated based on the rubric which is subject for revision with the students.
Nothing will balance the Support force of the glass on the marble so it would be the
NET FORCE on the marble.
Since there is a Net Force on the Marble, what will happen to it?
The object is accelerating because it’s changing its direction of motion in every
point in the circular path while maintaining its constant speed (noting that the object
travels the same distance because the radius of the circular path is not changing)
E. Discussing new concepts and new skills #2 Uniforn circular motion -a type of motion of an object in a circular path with a constant
speed but changing direction due to a net force.
In circular motion, the direction of the velocity changes every point along the circular path.
This change in direction is an indication that the object is accelerating, and the direction of
acceleration is towards the center of the circular path –thus it is called as Centripetal
Acceleration.
Following Newton’s Second Law, centripetal acceleration is caused by a NET FORCE –the
Centripetal Force.
F. Developing mastery(guides formative Ask: 1. How are the daredevils able to perform the “Wall of Death” stunt? Draw the possible
assessment) forces that will act on the motorcycle and the rider while moving along the “Wall of Death “
The answer is
2. What will happen to the motion of an object moving in circular motion when the centripetal
force “suddenly disappears”?
(At point A, the velocity vector of a body moving in circular motion is directed TANGENT to
the circular path. Hence the term TANGENTIAL VELOCITY. )see image below.
3. Which path in the figure below would the ball most closely follow after it exits the channel
at "r" and moves across the frictionless table top?
The answer is B.
4. A steel ball is attached to a string and is swung in a circular path in a horizontal plane as
illustrated in the accompanying figure on the left. At the point P indicated in the figure, the
string suddenly breaks near the ball. If these events are observed from directly above as in
the figure, which path would the ball most closely follow after the string breaks?
Answer: B

H. Finding Practical applications of concepts and Can you give application of uniform circular motion from real life and explain it.
skills in daily living
Uniform circular motion can be described as the motion of an object in a circle at a constant
speed. As an object moves in a circle, it is constantly changing its direction of motion. At all
instances, the object is moving tangent to the circle. This happens because of a centripetal
force, a force pointing towards the center of a circle, an acceleration vector towards the
center of the circle and a velocity tangent to the circle. The speed of an object in uniform
circular motion is constant because after all that's what makes it uniform. But the velocity is
always changing.
Examples of Uniform Circular Motion -
1) Amusement park ride.
2) Satellites orbiting the Earth and our natural satellite Moon's motion around the earth.
3) Movement of a windmill.
4) An athelete running on a circular track.
5) Marry go round
I. Evaluation of Learning 1. An object moves in a circular path at a constant speed. Which of the following is true?
A. The car’s acceleration is zero because it has a constant speed
B. The car’s acceleration is not zero and causes the car to slow down
C. The car’s acceleration is not zero and causes the car to speed up
D. The car’s acceleration is not zero and causes the change in the direction of the car’s
velocity
E. None from the above
2.An object experiences a uniform circular motion in a
horizontal plane as illustrated to the right the direction of the net force is:
A. A B. B C.C D.D E. E
3.A boy stands at the edge of a rotating table. In order to keep him moving in a circular path
the table applies a certain force on the boy. Which of the following is the reaction force to this
force?
A. The normal force on the boy
B. The force of gravity exerted on the boy by Earth
C. The force of gravity exerted on Earth by the boy
D. The force exerted on the table by the boy that is directed straight down
E. The static friction force exerted by the boy on the table
4. A small ball attached to the end of a string experiences a uniform circular motion on a
horizontal frictionless table. In order to keep the ball moving in a circle the string must apply
force on the ball toward the center of the circle. Which of the following refers to a reaction
force?
3.
In the Figure above draw and label the vectors to indicate the direction of the centripetal
acceleration and velocity.
