1. Review (5 minutes)
Teacher asks class about what they learnt in the previous lesson (present
simple) and give some examples.
2. Introduction (15 minutes)
Teacher presents a small excercise related to present perfect tense.
Ex: Fill in the blank with the suitable word

They have ... for this company for 5 years.
A working
B work
C worked
D be working
 Students choose the right answer C, ask students why they choose C but
not other answers.
 Come to conclusion: What is this tense? Present perfect. How do they
know it? It often goes along with “have” or “has”.
 Ask student which situation is present perfect tense used for?
Used to talk about something that started in the past and continue to
the present.
 State the definition.
 Teacher makes a timeline to illustrate for students.
3. Expand on knowledge: Since/For (20 minutes)
Teacher gives an excercise as below.

Ex: Fill the gaps with either SINCE or FOR:

1 Nobody has come to see us ... we moved here. Since
2 He has studied ... a long time. He can pass the test. For
 Students do excercise, teacher asks for explainations for their answers.

Tell them if they are right or wrong.
 Help students come up with the usage of Since/For.
 Since + point of time
 For + length of time
 Morover, frequently used with time expression: recently, already, just,
yet, ever, never,...
Teacher helps students build the verb form (positive, negative, interrogative) and
give some examples or ask if students have their own examples.
1. Positive sentence.
S + have/ has + V3
He/ She/ It/ Singular / Uncountable
nouns + has + V3
I/ We/ You/ They/ Plural + have + V3

- It has been 2 months since I first met
him.
- I have watched TV for two hours.
- She has prepared for dinner since 6:30

p.m.
Example
- He has eaten this kind of food several
times before.
- Have you been to that place before?
- They have worked for this company

for 5 years.
2. Negative sentence.
Structure S + have/ has + V3
He/ She/ It/ Singular/ Uncountable nouns
+ has + not + V3
I/ We/ You/ They/ Plural + have + not + V3

has not = hasn’t
Notice
have not = haven’t
- She has not prepared for dinner since 6:30
p.m.
- He has not eaten this kind of food before.

Example
- We haven’t met each other for a long time.
- He hasn’t come back to his hometown

3. Interrogative sentence (Yes/No question).
Q: Have/ has + S + V3?
Structure A: Yes, S + have/has + V3.
No, S + haven’t/hasn’t + V3.

- Q: Have you ever travelled to America? A:
Yes, I have/ No, I haven’t.
Example
- Q: Has she arrived in London yet?
A: Yes, she has./ No, she hasn’t.

Interrogative sentence (Wh-question)
Structure Wh- + have/ has + S + V3?

4. Check-up (20 minutes)
Teacher lets students do following excercises and corrects if they are
wrong, give explainations.
