Connection procedure
1)Connect the A-82 to the personal computer with the interface cable.
2)Operate A-82 prgramming software.
3)Set the communication interface
4)Operate the programming to the radio
5)When data is transmitting from the transceiver the red LED lights.
When data is receiving by the transceiver the green LED lights.
Notes:
·The data stored in the personal computer must match the Model Name when it is written into the EEPROM.
Run the software and connect the transceiver with the personal computer, and then turn ON.
·DO NOT press the [PTT] key during data transmission or reception.

·Programming Interface Cable description
(PC programming interface cable: Option)
The programming interface cable is required to interface the A-82 with the computer. It has a circuit in its D-
sub connector (9-pin) case that converts the RS-232C logic level to the TTL level. The programming interface
cable connects the side panel jacks of the A-82 to the computer’s RS-232C serial port.
·Programming with PC
If data is transferred to the transceiver from a personal computer with software provide by ABELL, the
destination data (basic radio information) for each set can be modified. Normally, it is not necessary to modify
the destination data because their values are determined automatically when the frequency range (frequency
type) is set.
The values should be modified only if necessary.
Data can be programmed into the EEPROM in RS-232C format via the SP MIC plug.

1) Front-end RF amplifier
An incoming signal from the antenna is applied to an RF amplifier (Q301) after passing through a
transmit/receive switch circuit (D301 and D302 are off) and a band pass LC filter. After the signal is amplified,
the signal is filtered through a band pass filter to eliminate unwanted signals before it is passed to the first
mixer(Q300).
Because of the LC band-pass filter’s insufficient bandwidth, control the capacitance value of variable
capacitance diode(D303-D308) by adjusting the voltage of AFC to reach the bandwidth need, the voltage of
AFC is controlled by CPU. (See the Chart 5)

2) First Mixer
The signal from the RF amplifier is heterodyned with the first local oscillator signal from the PLL frequency
synthesizer circuit at the first mixer (Q300) to create a 38.85MHz first intermediate frequency (1st IF) signal.
The first IF signal is then fed through two monolithic crystal filters (XF301) to further remove spurious signals.
3) IF AMP
The first IF signal is amplified by Q302, and then enters IC300 (FM processing IC). The signal is heterodyned
again with a second local oscillator signal within IC300 to create a 450 KHz second IF signal. The second IF
signal is then fed through a 450 KHz ceramic filter (CF300) to further eliminate unwanted signals before it is
amplified and FM detected in IC300.
4) AF amplifier
The AF signal from the IF IC300 is amplified by IC401 ( C ) , then passes through the high-pass filter
IC401(A),IC401(B),and low-pass filter IC401(D), and though R436, C430 remove embitter. The
signal passes through AF volume control circuit and enters the audio power amplifier IC2 , drives the
speaker.
5) Squelch
Part of the AF signal from IC300 enters IC300 again, and the noise is amplified and rectified by a filter and an
amplifier to produce a DC voltage corresponding to the noise level. The DC signal goes to the analog port of
the microprocessor(IC1).IC1 determines whether to output sounds from the speaker by checking whether the
input voltage is higher or lower than the preset value.
To output sounds from the speaker, IC1 sends a high signal to the MUTE and AFCC lines through Q4, Q5,
and Q404 and turns on the audio amplifier.(See the chart 6)

6) Receive signaling
QT/DQT
300Hz and higher audio frequencies of the output signal from IF IC are cut by IC301. Then, the signal is
input into IC1. IC1 determines whether the QT or DQT matches the preset value, and controls the MUTE,
AFCC and the speaker output sounds according to the squelch results.
1) PLL
The frequency step of the PLL circuit is 5 or 6.25 kHz. A 12.8 MHz reference oscillator signal is divided at
IC100 by a fixed counter to produce the 5 or 6.25 kHz reference frequency. The voltage controlled oscillator
(VCO) output signal is buffer amplified by Q105, then divided in IC100 by a dual-module programmable
counter. The divided signal is compared in phase with the 5 or 6.25 kHz reference signal in the phase
comparator in IC100. The output signal from the phase comparator is filtered through a low-pass filter and
though the VCO to control the oscillator frequency. (See the chart 7)
2) VCO
The operating frequency is generated by Q101 in transmit mode and Q104 in receive mode. The oscillator
frequency is controlled by applying the VCO control voltage, to the varactor diodes (D102 and D103 in
receive mode and D100 and D101 in transmit mode). In receive mode, the voltage of Q104 is provided by
closing the Q14. In transmit mode, the voltage of Q101 is provided by opening Q14 and closing Q13.
【Closing or opening of Q14 is controlled by the high or low level output of CPU(IC2 Pin 32), in receive mode,
CPU(IC2 Pin 32) output high level, in transmit mode, CPU(IC2 Pin 32) output low level 】,The outputs from
Q104 and Q101 are amplified by Q102 and sent to the buffer amplifiers.

3) UNLOCKED DETECOR
If the LOCK pin 14 on IC100 is low electricity level ,the detector will be loosed lock and get DC from D105
and R127, when CPU(IC1 Pin23) test the low level of PLL(IC100 Pin14), it can not transmit and ignoring the

1) Transmit audio
The modulation signal from the microphone is amplified by IC400(1/2), passes through a preemphasis circuit,
and amplified by the other IC400(1/2) to perform IDC operation. The signal then passes through a low-pass
filter (splatter filter) (Q400 and Q401) and cuts the frequencies higher than 3kHz. The resulting signal goes to
the VCO through the VCO modulation terminal for direct FM modulation. The audio frequency swing is
controlled by VR400. (See the Chart 9)
2) QT/DQT encoder
A necessary signal for QT/DQT encoding is generated by IC403 and adjusted by the reference frequency of
PLL. Because reference oscillator can’t adjust the frequency deviation of QT/DQT, adjusted by divider at
VCO side.

4) DTMF Encode
The data is outputted from Pin 60 of the microprocessor IC1, the data go through the CR lowpass filter, one
part of the data input to VCO via IC400, Q400, Q401 to modulate directly, the other part of data is transfer
from AF-IN through CN10 into audio power AMP(IC2) for driving the speaker. DTMF frequency deviation is
adjusted by the output of CPU(IC1).

7) Power Control
Power control circuit, stabilize the transmiting output power by AGC(Auto-control gain cuicuit). Voltage
comparing circuit, IC201(2/2) compare the voltage obtained from the final current by the reference voltage
set by microprocessor. The power control voltage is in direct ratio to the difference value between the
reference voltage and auto-detecting voltage from IC 201(1/2). The output voltage control the field-effect tube
amplifier, keep the output power constant. Transmit output power can be adjusted by CPU, change the
output power by modify of reference voltage through CPU.
5.Power supply
The 5V pwer of CPU(5C) is provided by inputing 7.5V to A15, low level output by CPU(IC1 Pin15) close Q15
to provide 5V power. In normal work mode, CPU(IC1 Pin33) output high level, contol Q18 provide 5V power
for PLC. In transmiting mode, CPU(IC1 Pin34) output high level, control Q18 provide 5V power for TXC, in
receiving mode, CPU(IC1 Pin35) output low level, control Q10 provide 5V power for RXC.
