away. Acharya had served as governor of Nagaland, Tripura, Assam and also handled
the responsibilities as the governor of Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

• Sahara India Group Founder Subrata Roy died after a prolonged illness. He ruled an
empire that included an airline, Air Sahara, television channels, finance and real estate.

• Renowned art historian and writer B. N. Goswamy died. He was honoured with Padma
Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. He was best-known for his works on the Pahari style of
paintings.

• Former Governor of the RBI S. Venkitaramanan passed away. Belonging to the Tamil
Nadu cadre of the IAS, he became the RBI Governor in December 1990 when a
balance of payment crisis was brewing.

myself" owing to her prominent role in his administration even as she tirelessly promoted
the cause of mental health, died.

• The founder of Sankara Netralaya Dr.S.S Badrinath passed away. He founded the
Sankara Nethralaya as a unit of the Medical Research Foundation in 1978. He was a
recipient of the Padma Shri in 1983 and Padma Bhushan in 1999.

• Nobel Peace Prize winner & diplomat Henry Kissinger who guided U.S. foreign policy,
died. He played a pivotal role in several key world events including the Paris Peace
Accords with North Vietnam, expanding Israel’s ties with its Arab neighbours, the US-Soviet
arms control talks.

• N. Sankaraiah, a freedom fighter, senior-most Communist leader in the country, and one of
the founding members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) passed away.

passed away. She was also the first Muslim woman to serve the higher judiciary in the
country. She was also the first woman Governor of Tamil Nadu and the first

• An All-India Radio artist & noted violinist B. Sasikumar died. He had written several
divine hymns in Malayalam and Tamil languages. He was conferred with several
awards including the central government’s Sangeet Natak Akademi award.

• Charlie Munger, who helped Warren Buffett build Berkshire Hathaway into an
investment powerhouse, has died.

• Sweets and snacks brand Bikanervala founder Lala Kedarnath Aggarwal passed
away at 86.
