STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES

1- PURPOSE OF THE METHOD STATEMENT


The purpose of this Method Statement is to outline the sequences and the methods of works
intended to be used for proper and safe Operation of RMU and TRANSFORMER.

3- RESPONSIBILITY

1- ELECTRICACOMPANY ENGINEER:
All operating and disconnecting procedures for medium voltage tasks and protection
electrical equipment and reports to the general manager.

2- Project Manager:
Lead all construction activities and enforce strict adherence to all project
requirements and will report to contracts manager. The project manager shall be
responsible to implement this method statement and ensure that his team of
engineer and supervisor are aware of this method statement.

3- Consultant Electrical Engineer:


Understand fully the specifications/ drawings, documents, labor, plant and ensure
all related works are carried out in accordance with shop drawing, specifications,
method statement, schedule, quality, and safety. Provide leadership, organizational
support, skill and promote teamwork to achieve the target. Report to Project
Manager.

4- ABDOS Electrical Engineer:


Review the specifications/ drawings, documents, labor, plant and ensure all related
works are carried out in accordance with shop drawing, specifications, method
statement, schedule, quality, and safety and ensure that electrical connection
procedures are done correctly. Follow up with the electricity company team during
the connection and disconnection process.
5- Safety Engineer:
Implement safety rules where necessary, ensure that all site personnel and visitors
adhere to safety rules, carry out inspection on the daily. Inspect tools/ equipments
and personnel protective equipment’s on site. Prepare and issue safety reports as
and when required.

4.1 Project specifications and approved drawings.
4.2 Project Quality Plan.
4.3 Health, safety, and environment manual.

Preparation:
 Ensure all personnel are equipped with appropriate PPE (Personal Protective
Equipment):
1- Electrical Safety Shoes
2- Flame-Resistant Clothing
3- Safety Glasses or Goggles
4- Insulated Tools
 Verify that the RMU and surrounding area are clear of obstructions.
 Visual Inspection:
-Visually inspect the RMU for any signs of damage, leaks, or abnormal conditions.
-Check for any foreign objects inside the RMU.
 Switching Operations:
-Follow the prescribed switching sequence as per the operation manual.
-Use insulated tools when operating switches.
-Confirm proper isolation before carrying out any work.
 Earthing:
-Ensure proper earthing of the RMU before conducting any maintenance or switching
operations.
-Verify the earthing system is functioning correctly.

 Communication:
-Maintain clear communication with all personnel involved in the operation.
-Use established communication protocols for coordination.
 Emergency Procedures:
-Be familiar with emergency shutdown procedures in case of any abnormal situations.
-Ensure all personnel are aware of emergency response protocols.
 Post-operation Inspection:
-After completing the operation, conduct a visual inspection to ensure all switches are in
the correct position.
-Verify that all safety measures have been properly implemented.
 Documentation:
-Record all relevant information regarding the operation, including any deviations from
the standard procedure.
-Maintain records for future reference and auditing purposes.
 Training:
-Ensure all personnel involved in RMU operations are adequately trained and competent.
-Conduct regular refresher training sessions to reinforce safe operating practices.
 Closure:
-Secure the RMU and the surrounding area.
-Ensure all tools and equipment are properly stored.
-Complete any necessary paperwork or reporting.
Operation Steps of Ring Main Unit:
TURN ON –
1- turn to the direction of disconnecting the earthing switch as shown by the arrow.
2- panel shows that the earthing switch is disconnected.
3- insert the handle on the circuit breaker panel and rotate it in the direction of energy storage as shown by
the arrow.
4- `press the green close button in the upper right corner to complete the closing operation of the ring main
unit.

TURN OFF -
1- disconnect the low-voltage main circuit breaker,
2- then press the red stop button on the upper right corner of the ring main unit.
3- The circuit breaker is disconnected, and the panel indicator of the circuit breaker room shows the
disconnected state.
4- Then insert the handle in the earthing switch room and press When the arrow rotates to the closing
direction,
5- earthing switch is closed, the panel shows that the earthing switch is closed,
6- the operation of disconnecting the ring network cabinet is completed.

Power transmission procedure-


(1) Before powering the transformer, check that the transformer output main load switch is in the off
state.
(2) Open the earthing knife lock and remove the warning sign of "No Switching On".
(3) Operate counterclockwise to open the earthing knife.
(4) Check that the earthing indicator is in the off position ("floating" state).
(5) Lock the earthing knife lock.
(6) Open the load knife lock.
(7) Operate clockwise to close the switch.
(8) Check the status of the three indicator lights.
(9) Lock the load knife lock.
Power failure operating procedures
(1) Before shutting down the transformer, the output total load switch of the transformer should be
disconnected.
(2) Check the status of the three indicator lights.
(3) Open the load knife lock.
(4) Press the red stop button "OFF" by hand until you hear the sound of the switch.
(5) Check that the three indicator lights should be white without flickering.
(6) Lock the load knife lock.
(7) Open the earthing knife lock.
(8) Operate clockwise to close the earthing knife.
(9) Check that the earthing indicator is in the earthing state and hang up a warning sign of "No
Switching On".
(10) Lock the earthing knife lock.
