Bagheera (Girl 1): Now I’m the panther, Bagheera.
Baloo (Jaime): And I’m the big bear, Baloo.
Both: And we’ve got lots of jungle friends we want to introduce to you.
Narrator 1 (Girl 3): Away we go to the jungle
Narrator 2 (Girl 4): over hill and valley and brook.
Baloo (Jaime): We’ll set the stage
Bagheera (Girl 1): and turn the page and open up The Jungle Book
Narrator 1 (Girl 3): So set the stage!
Narrator 2 (Girl 4): And turn the page!
All Four: And open up The Jungle Book

ALL: Come along and hear a story strange

and marvellous and true.
Let us take you to the jungle under skies of Girl 1n blue.
Deep inside this leafy jungle lived a little orphan boy.
Wolves that raised him named him Mowgli.
He grew up to be their pride and joy.
Pride and joy, pride and joy.

Happy was the man-cub Mowgli,

all the jungle’s pride and joy.
Happy was the little man-cub till the tiger gave a roar.

Shere Kan (Boy 2): Get that boy out of my jungle!

He can’t stay here anymore!

ALL: Though his jungle fam’ly loved him,

loved him more than words can say,
they knew Mowgli was in danger;;
Mowgli must be sent away.
Sent away, sent away.
from the tiger we’ll protect him,
Mowgli must be sent away.

Bet you’re wond’ring what will happen.

Come along and take a look.
Come and listen to the story that we call The Jungle Book
Take a look, take a look, take a
look, take a look.
Come and listen to the story,
and begin… The Jungle…
Jungle Book!!!

SCENE 1
Mowgli (Boy 1): Bagheera, I’m getting a little sleepy. Shouldn’t we start
back home?
Bagheera (Girl 1): Mowgli, this time we’re not going back. I’m taking you to
the man village.
Mowgli (Boy 1): But why?
Bagheera (Girl 1): Because Shere Khan the tiger has returned to this part
of the jungle, and he wants to hurt you.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Me? But I’ve never even met him.
Bagheera (Girl 1): He hates Man. Man makes fire and hunts tigers with
guns.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Oh, we’ll just explain to him that I’d never do that.
Bagheera (Girl 1): You can’t explain things to tigers.
Mowgli (Boy 1): But I want to stay in the jungle!
Bagheera (Girl 1): It’s not safe for you anymore.
Mowgli (Boy 1): I can take care of myself!
Bagheera (Girl 1): Alone? I don’t think so. Now, let’s get some rest. You’re
going to need it.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Not safe for me anymore. Ha!

SCENE 2
SONG 2: Kaa the Snake
What a day for little Mowgli!

Kaa 2 (Girl 4): Oh, it’s a Man-cub.
Kaa 3 (Girl 5): A delicious Man-cub.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Who are you?
ALL Kaas: Why, I am Kaa.
Kaa 4 (Girl 6): Sssooooo nice to meet you.
Kaa 5 (Girl 2): I’ve been sssssooooo hungry for visitors!

ALL: Kaa, the snake, slunk away and the night turned to day.
Narrator (Boy 4): Then guess what? What indeed? Mowgli heard… a
stampede!
ALL: Then guess what? What indeed? Mowgli heard…a stampede!

SONG: Colonel Hathi’s March

ALL: Hup two three four.
Keep it up two three four
Hup two three four.
Keep it up two three four.
Oh, the aim of our patrol is a question rather droll.
For to march and drill over field and hill is a military
goal, is a military goal.
And a hup two three four.
Dress it up two Three four.
By the ranks or single file,
Over ev’ry jungle mile,
Oh, we stamp and crush thru the underbrush in a military style,
in a military style!

Hathi (Girl 7): Company!

All: Halt!
Hathi (Girl 7): Inspection! Arms! Well, a new recruit, hey? I say, what
happened to your trunk?
Mowgli (Boy 1): Hey! Stop that!
Hathi (Girl 7): Hah. A man-cub! This is treason! Sabotage! I’ll have no man-
cub in my jungle!
Mowgli (Boy 1): It’s not your jungle!
Bagheera (Girl 1): Hold it! Hold it! I can explain. The man-cub is with me.
Coconut Tree (Boy 4): He’s taking him to the man village.
Hathi (Girl 7): To stay?
Bagheera (Girl 1): You have my word.
Hathi (Girl 7): Good. That’s where he belongs. And remember, an elephant
never forgets!
Baby Elephant (Boy 3): Yeah, an elephant never forgets!
Hathi (Girl 7): Forward…march!
(Music begins, and elephants march. Elephants fall on top of each other.)
Mowgli (Boy 1): What happened?
Bagheera (Girl 1): I think he forgot to say “Halt!”
Mowgli (Boy 1): An elephant never forgets, huh?
Bagheera (Girl 1): Enough of this playing around! Now, let’s get
out of here quick Before anything else happens. You’re going
to the man-village right now.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Am not!
Bagheera (Girl 1): Are too!
Mowgli (Boy 1): Am not!
Bagheera (Girl 1): Are too! That does it! From now on, you are
listening to what I say. Now, I am going to start walking to the
man-village and you are going to follow me. Make no mistake
about it, you are going home.
Mowgli (Boy 1): I am home, you mean old cat! And who needs
you? I can take care of myself!!! Can’t I?
Scene 4
SONG: Baloo the Bear
Narrator (Girl 6): Mowgli sat down, sad and blue.
Narrator (Boy 4): Didn’t know what he should do. But the

Narrator (Girl 6): But the great big bear, Baloo!
Mowgli (Boy 1): Hey, you’re not a rock!
Baloo (Jaime): Easy, man…
Mowgli (Boy 1): Get outta my way!
Baloo (Jaime): Well, now. That’s pretty big talk, little britches.
Mowgli (Boy 1): I’m warning you. You’re asking for it!
Baloo (Jaime): You want to fight like a bear? Go ahead, give me
a big bear growl. Scare me.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Rrr.
Baloo (Jaime): Oh, boy. I’m talkin’ about a big bear. Right from
your toes.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Grrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Baloo (Jaime): Let me help you, there…
Mowgli (Boy 1): I’m a lot tougher than people think!
Baloo (Jaime): Hey! That’s not fair! No, no, now, that—Ooh,
you win. You win!
Hey, you’re all right. What’s your name, kid?
Bagheera (Girl 1): Mowgli. And he’s going to the Man village
right now.
Baloo (Jaime): Man village? They’ll ruin him. They’ll make a man
out of him.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Oh, Baloo, I want to stay here with you.
Baloo (Jaime): Of course you do.
Bagheera (Girl 1): And just how do you think he will survive?
Baloo (Jaime): How will he survive? How will he survive? Why,
it’s easy! All
you need are the bare necessities, right, everybody?

SONG: The Bare Necessities

the simple bare necessities.
Forget about your worries and your strife.
I mean the bare necessities,
or Mother Nature’s recipes
that bring the bare necessities of life!
Wherever I wander, wherever I roam,
I couldn’t be fonder of my big home.
The bees are buzzin’ in the tree
to make some honey just for me.
You look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants,
then maybe try a few.
The bare necessities of life will come to you.
They’ll come to you.

Bagheera (Girl 1): Of all the ridiculous…Baloo, do you see these

tiger tracks? Shere Khan is right on our trail! I’ve got to
check this out.
Baloo (Jaime): Don’t you worry, Baggy! Go on ahead. Little
buddy’s safe with me!
Bagheera (Girl 1): Don’t move.
Baloo (Jaime): We won’t move…but we can groove! C’mon, little
buddy…let’s show ‘em how it’s done!

ALL: Aaaaaaaaah!!!
Shere Khan (Boy 2): So nice to see you, too.

Scene 6
Shere Khan the Tiger

Shere Khan (Boy 2): Now I’m the king of the jungle, not some
confounded ape!
ALL: Observe his claws and from his paws no man-cub can
escape.
Shere Khan (Boy 2): I could end this story right now, but that
would be such a yawn.
ALL: It’s much more fun to let him run
Shere Khan (Boy 2): from might me!
ALL: Shere Khan! Shere Khan! Shere Khan!? Roar!!!
Shere Khan (Boy 2): Now…let’s see.
Where can that little man-cub be?
Can he be…here??? Surely someone saw something??? He can’t
hide forever, you know. And rest assured, man-cub, I’ll find
you, wherever you are…

Baloo (Jaime): Well, looks like he’s finally asleep. That was
close, Baggy!
Bagheera (Girl 1): Too close, Baloo! Too close!!! That’s why
we’ve got to get him out of the jungle.
Baloo (Jaime): I promised he could stay with me… But you’re
right, Bagheera. I’ll tell him in the morning. We have no choice.
He’s got to leave the jungle.
(While he’s speaking, Mowgli has woken up and is listening)
Mowgli (Boy 1): But you promised! You promised!!!
Baloo (Jaime): I know, little buddy, but you’ve gotta
understand…

Bagheera (Girl 1): You must leave the jungle before it’s too
late! It’s for your own good!
Mowgli (Boy 1): Noooooooooo!!!
(Mowgli runs away)

Bagheera (Girl 1): (turning towards Baloo) Well, don’t just

stand there! We’ve got to find him before Shere Khan does!
Baloo (Jaime): Oh, if anything happens to that little guy, I’ll
never forgive myself. He doesn’t know the danger he’s in!

Scene 7
SONG: Mowgli Runs
ALL: Search on high…
Search on low…
What would happen to the
man-cub without any place to go?
Wherever you wander,
wherever you roam,
you couldn’t be fonder of your big home…
The bees are buzzing in the trees to make some honey…
just for…
Mowgli (Boy 1): Hey!
Vulture 1 (Boy 7): Oh, he’s alive after all. Unfortunately.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Go ahead, laugh. I don’t care.
Vulture 2 (Boy 8): Aw, come on. What’s wrong? You know, you
look like you haven’t got a friend in the world.

Mowgli (Boy 1): I haven’t.

Vulture 3 (Boy 9): Hey…who protected you when Shere Khan
came looking for you? We did! You have lots of friends in the
jungle!
Mowgli (Boy 1): Really?

SONG: That’s What Friends Are For

(Vultures in front
Others behind)
ALL: When you’re alone, who comes around to pluck you up
when you are down?
And when you’re outside looking in,
who’s there to open the door?
That’s what friends are for.
And when you’re lost, in dire need,
who’s at your side at light’ning speed?
And when you’re lost, who’s at your side…
We’re friends with ev’ry creature comin’ light’ning speed?
We’re friends with ev’ry creature comin’ down the pike.
In fact, we’ve never met a
man-cub that we didn’t like.
So you can see we’re friends in need
and friends in need are friends indeed.
We’ll keep you safe in the jungle forever more…
So you can see we’re friends in need
and friends in need are friends indeed.
We’ll keep you safe in the jungle forever more…

Shere Khan: That’s what friends are for!

(Roar!!!)
Shere Khan (Boy 2): Hmm. To think he was here in the jungle
all along.
And no one said anything! Your friends are very loyal, little
man-cub.
Vultures: Run, Mowgli, run!
Mowgli (Boy 1): You don’t scare me. I don’t run from anyone.
Shere Khan (Boy 2): Ah, you have spirit for one so small. I’m
going to close my eyes and count to ten. It makes the chase
more interesting for me… One…Two…
Baloo (Jaime): Come on everybody! We can all save Mowgli
together!

Song: The Battle

Baloo (Jaime): I’ll get his tail! And tug like so!
Trees: We’ve got some fruit that we can throw.
Lalique: We’ve got to put our heads together for the boy we
adore: That’s what
friends are for!
Prickly Pears: And with our points, his eyes we’ll scratch.
Rocks: And with some rocks, he’ll meet his match.
All: We’ll get the tiger by the tail and then he’s gonna pay.
Baloo (Keith): Somebody’s got to keep the man-cub out of
Shere Khan’s way.
Jungle: We’ll tie him up. He’ll yell and how! We’ll show Shere
Khan who’s sorry
now, and then he’ll run out of the forest with a terrified roar…
Shere Khan (Boy 2): Seven, eight, nine, ten!
ALL: And Shere Khan ran out of the forest with a terrified
roar…
That’s what friends are … That’s what friends are for! That’s
what friends are for!
That’s what friends are for!
Scene†8

Bagheera (Girl 1): What happened here?
Baloo (Jaime): We did it, little buddy!
Mowgli (Boy 1): And now I don’t have to go to the Man village
anymore!
Baloo (Jaime): You bet! Hey, where did you get that blindfold
idea?
Brilliant!!!
Mowgli (Girl 8): That wasn’t me.
Baloo (Jaime): No? Well, if you didn’t do it, then who did?
Shanti (Girl 8): Hello.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Who are you?
Shanti Girl 8): My name is Shanti. I live in the village over the
river.
Mowgli (Boy 1): You mean… the Man village?
Shanti (Girl 8): Is that what you call it here? Well, it’s not
just a Man village.
There are women and little girls… and little boys just like you.
Baloo (Jaime): Hey, have you been here all the time?
Shanti (Girl 8): Sometimes I sneak into the jungle to have an
adventure. I saw what happened…and how brave you were. How
brave all of you were…I couldn’t just sit there and not help
out!
Shanti’s Mother (Anna): Shanti! Shanti! Where are you? You
know you aren’t allowed to play in the jungle!
Shanti (Girl 8): Uh-oh. I’d better go.
Mowgli (Boy 1): What does the village look like?
Baloo (Jaime): Nothing you need to know about—
Bagheera (Girl 1): Quiet, Baloo.
Shanti (Girl 8): Would you like to come with me and see?
Baloo (Jaime): Don’t go, little buddy!
Bagheera (Girl 1): Go ahead, Mowgli.
Mowgli (Boy 1): Don’t worry, Baloo. I’m just going to go for a
little while… okay?
Baloo (Jaime): Okay, little buddy.
Bagheera (Girl 1): And Mowgli…
Mowgli (Boy 1): Yes?
Bagheera (Girl 1): You may belong in the village…
All: But you’ve always got a home in the jungle!
