A. READINGS/DISCUSSIONS

SEARCH ENGINE

➢ A search engine is a web-based tool that enables users to locate information on the World Wide
Web.

➢ It is an online tool that searches for results in its database based on the typed topic.

➢ Search engines find the results in their database, sort them and make an ordered list of these
results. This list is generally called the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).

➢ There are many search engines such as Google, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Bing, Yahoo Ask and
etc.

In using a search engine to conduct a guided search on a given topic, remember the following:

➢ Verify the search result, do not rely on one source only


➢ Gather information carefully, not all information in the internet is legitimate.
➢ Check content for validity.
➢ Confirm the source; make sure it is reliable.
