BOATING ACTIVIES
ACTIVITIES
Two floating crafts that may take anyone to places in the water that Whitewater Kayaking – whitewater rivers
are even difficult to access by any other means.
Flatwater recreation – gentle paddle down a calm water
Canoe - originated from the Carib word “kenu” which meant dugout.
Originally made from large tree trunks Sailing – fitted with a sail

Yoke – a beam in the center of a canoe
Thwart – crossbars reinforcing the canoe Basic floatation device
Gunwale – acts as structural support, defines shape Helmet
Seat – for paddler at the bow Appropriate clothing

Kayak - “qajak” meaning “man’s boat” or “hunter’s boat”. For Whistle
