3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

Main Hazards Risk of serious damage to eyes.


Health Effects - Inhalation Exposure to dust at high concentrations may have the following
effects:-
irritation of nose, throat and respiratory tract.
Respirable silica dusts if inhaled over a prolonged period could
constitute a health hazard.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Eye Contact Immediately flood the eye with plenty of water for at least 15
minutes, holding the eye open.
Obtain medical attention urgently.

Skin Contact Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.


Obtain medical attention if blistering occurs or redness persists.
Contaminated clothing should be washed or dry-cleaned before
re-use.

Ingestion Do not induce vomiting. Wash out mouth with water.

Inhalation Remove from exposure.


In cases of possible respiratory irritation or if feeling unwell in
cases of prolonged exposure,obtain medical attention.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Extinguishing Media Not combustible.


Select extinguishing agent appropriate to other materials involved.

Personal Precautions Wear appropriate protective clothing.


Environmental Precautions and Clean-up Try to prevent the material from entering drains or water courses.
Methods
Spillages Avoid creating a dust.
Sweep up into suitable containers for recovery or disposal.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling Avoid inhaling dust.


Exposure by inhalation or skin contact should be minimised by
good Industrial Hygenie practices.
Mix in a well ventilated area.
Storage Storage area should be: cool. dry.

Engineering Control Measures Use of the basic principles of Industrial Hygiene will enable this
material to be used safely.
Every effort should be made to prevent airborne dusts arising
during mixing operations.
Respiratory Protection If limits are exceeded use an approved dust mask.
Hand Protection Wear suitable impervious gloves.
The insides of gloves must be kept scrupulously clean.
Eye Protection Dust tight goggles.
Body Protection Protective clothing should be worn which ensures that
cementitious materials do not come into contact with the skin.
Particular care should be taken to ensure that wet mortar does not
enter boots/footwear.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Acute toxicity Low order of acute toxicity.


Eye irritation Cement is a severe eye irritant.
Gross exposures or untreated mild exposures can lead to chemical
burning and ulceration of the eye.

Skin irritation Frequent or prolonged skin contact may cause some local short
term skin irritation.

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Mobility The product is sparingly soluble in water.


Persistence/degradability Inorganic basis,therefore non biodegradable.
Ecotoxicity The alkalinity of this product will have a local effect on ecosystems
sensitive to changes in pH

13. DISPOSAL

Product Disposal Dispose of as Special Waste.


As an inert material it may be disposed of via an approved solid
waste disposal facility.
Container Disposal Empty packaging may be disposed along with normal builders
waste via an authorised waste contractor.
