Learning Outcomes:

In order to apply for any jobs, make sure that you know yourself. In this

chapter, we will try to analyze and maximize your potential in finding a

suitable job offer for you.

A. Assessing yourself

In order to assess yourself, try to answer the following questions.

l Who are you and what do you want?

l Why do you want to get a job?

l Do you have the skills that you need?

l What are the jobs that will suit you?

l Do you want the jobs that are linear with your degree?

l Do you want to have a full time or part time job?

l Do you want to have remote working, office work, or the hybrid

working?

B. Identifying strengths and weaknesses

Evaluating your strengths and weaknesses comprises two things:

1. Your personal characteristics.


a) Positive characteristics: highlights your behaviors that can support

you in working. Example: humble, honest, and confident.

b) Negative characteristics: list all of your own inferior attitudes that

you have. Example: careless, moody, and easily angry.

2. Strength and weaknesses should be based on your own

performance in a job, not your attitudes or characteristics. Take a

look at the examples below:

a) Strength: on time, loyal to the company, professional, and easy to

adapt to new condition.

b) Weakness: unable to do multitasking, perfectionist, and a deadline

person.

3. Your qualifications: academic qualifications, skills, and experiences.

One way to identify them is by drawing a mind map.

Exercise 1: Complete the headings (1-6) on the mind map using the words

in the box.

Exercise 2: Draw a mind map similar to that in exercise 1. Add as many

bubbles as you like. Try to use the following phrases.

Assessing your best skills and talent.

For some cases, people tend to be able to find out their talents and skills on
what they capable of. However if you are still confused on what are you
good at, try to select your talent and field that you are interested with. For a
further explanation, try to look for IKIGAI is a mastermind Japanese
concept to get your reasons for being. The following image can lead you to
achieve your directions in the future.
