List of Indian Presidents (1950-2022)
The Constitution of India was adopted on 26th November
1949 (It came into force on 26th January 1950) and Dr
Rajendra Prasad was elected as the first constitutional head
of the state, the President of India.
Ram Nath Kovind, the 14th President of India, completed his term in
July 2022. Though he was eligible, he did not contest for re-election.
As a result, Draupadi Murmu in July 2022, became the 15th Indian
President, appointed by the electoral college.

List of Prime Ministers of India (1947-2022)
Prime Minister of India is the head of the government. He is
appointed by the Indian President after the political party
wins a general election and nominates a candidate for the
post. The leader of that political party is thereafter appointed
as the Prime Minister of India.
India’s first PM was appointed in 1947. In 2021, the Indian prime
minister is Narendra Modi.

Article 75 of the Indian Constitution mentions that a Prime
Minister is one who is appointed by the President. There is no
specific procedure for his election or appointment. Article
74(1) states that there shall be a Council of Ministers with a
Prime Minister at the head to aid and advise the President.

To become an Indian prime minister one has to be
• A citizen of India.
• A member of either Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha
• He should have completed his 30 years if he is a member of
the Rajya Sabha or can be 25 years of age if he is a member
of the Lok Sabha
