1.04 SUBMITTALS
A. The Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission, under the provisions of SECTION 01 33
00, the following items for review and approval before commencing Work:
1. Cast-in-Place Concrete Curbs and Gutters
a. The Contractor shall submit the relevant information as stipulated in SECTION 03 30
00.
2. Precast Concrete Curbs and Gutters and Pavers
a. The Contractor shall submit the relevant information as stipulated in SECTION 03 41
00.
1.05 QUALITY CONTROL
A. The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of work and shall develop and propose
programs and methods of construction and testing such as to achieve the specified quality to
the approval of the Royal Commission in accordance with SECTION 01 45 00.
B. Quality control shall conform to the referenced Sections for concrete work and joint fillers.
C. Quality control procedures shall comply with the local governing regulations regarding precast
and cast-in-place curbs and gutters, if they are more stringent than specified herein.
1.06 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. The Contractor shall deliver, handle and store equipment and material units in accordance
with SECTIONS 01 65 00 and 01 66 00, as well as the following requirements:
1. Cast-in-Place Concrete Curbs and Gutters
a. Materials delivery, storage and handling shall conform to the applicable requirements
specified in the referenced Sections.
2. Precast Concrete Curbs and Gutters and Pavers
a. Precast units shall be handled and transported in a way, consistent with their shape
and design.
b. Any precast unit damaged during these operations shall be either rejected for use in
the work and replaced with sound unit or repaired, as directed by the Contractor’s
Quality Control Supervisor and the Royal Commission.

PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Concrete
1. Concrete shall comply with the requirements of SECTION 03 30 00 and other applicable
referenced Sections for concrete mix design, sampling, testing, and quality control; and as
herein specified.
2. The mix should be designed to produce standard-weight concrete consisting of portland
cement, aggregate and water to produce the following properties:
a. Compressive Strength: 30 MPa at 28 days.
b. Slump Range: 75 mm to 100 mm without super plasticizer. 75 mm to
125 mm with super plasticizer.
c. Cement: Type I plus approved quality supplementary cementing
material (pozzolan).
3. Portland cement, aggregates, water, and admixtures shall conform to the requirements
specified in SECTION 03 30 00.
B. Reinforcement
1. Steel bars shall conform to ASTM A615M.
2. Fiber and Grid renorcing shall comply with SECTION 31 22 00.
C. Forms
1. Steel, wood or other suitable materials shall be of size and strength to resist movement
during concrete placement.
2. The form material should also retain horizontal and vertical alignment until removal.
3. Forms should be used free of distortion and defects.
4. Flexible spring steel forms or laminated boards shall be used to form radius bends as
required.
5. Forms shall be coated with a non-staining, clear, form release agent that will not discolor
or deface the surface of the concrete.
6. Extruding equipment shall be of approved commercial quality and design.
D. Joint Dowel Bars
1. Steel bars for load transfer, expansion joints and transverse contraction joints, shall
conform to the provisions of ASTM A615M
2. Bars should be cut true to length with ends square and free of burrs.
E. Expansion Joint Material
1. Shall comply with applicable requirements of SECTIONS 07 91 00 and 07 92 00 for
preformed expansion joint fillers and sealers, respectively.
F. Precast Curbs and Gutters
1. Unless otherwise indicated, materials shall comply with the following:
a. Concrete
i. Class of concrete shall be as shown on the Contract Drawings.
ii. All the constituents used for the specified concrete mix shall comply with the
material requirements specified in SECTION 03 30 00.

b. Embedment and Anchorage Devices

i. All materials shall comply with the requirements specified in SECTION 05 56 00.
c. Grout
i. Premixed grout shall be non-shrink and non-metallic as specified in SECTION 03
30 00.
d. Joint Sealants
i. All sealant materials shall comply with the requirements specified in SECTIONS
07 91 00 and 07 92 00.
e. Epoxy Adhesive
i. Epoxy adhesive may be a proprietary coating, as presently used by precast unit
manufacturer, and shall conform to any international standard recognized by the
Royal Commission.
f. Casting
i. Curb sections shall be hydraulically pressed into approved molds under conditions
of controlled temperature and humidity.
ii. Sections shall be water or steam cured until the concrete attains 100% of
specified strength.
iii. Curbs shall have a clean finish with smooth surfaces.
iv. Segregation, honeycombing or broken corners will not be allowed and remedial
measures will not be accepted.
G. Concrete Pavers for Sidewalks and Driveways
1. Portland Cement: ASTM C-150 specifications for Portland Cement.
2. Aggregates: All aggregates to meet ASTM C-33 specifications, cleaned and properly
graded to size. Aggregate shall be blended to meet individual project requirements. And
to meet ASTM C241 & HA 10 minimum.
3. Coloring: Pigments used shall be inorganic, alkali resistant and used per manufacturer’s
recommendations.
4. Thickness: 25 to 50mm thick.
5. Surface Finish: Shot-blasted or Honed.
6. Edge Finish: 5 mm bevel on all four (4) sides or straight edge.
H. Brick Pavers
1. Refer To Section 32 14 16.
I. Stone Pavers
1. Refer to Section 32 14 40.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 CAST-IN-PLACE CURBS AND GUTTERS
A. Surface Preparation
1. The subgrade shall be constructed true to grade and cross-section, as shown on the
Contract Drawings, and thoroughly compacted before placing the concrete. If the section
is not indicated on the Contract Drawings, the width to be excavated shall be 300 mm
each side of the outside edges of the curb or gutter.

Brief History
Jubail Concrete Products (J. C. P.) was formed in
1980 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Khonaini
International Co. Ltd. based in Jubail. It started in
the block production industry with one major
intention, to relive contractor and builders of the
problems of the finding guaranteed, consistently
high quality block work. This was accomplished
by purchasing a Zenith 940’s multilayer block
plant, at that time, the very latest machine from
“Rolls Royce” company of block plant
manufactures. They also scored a “First” in that
this was the first plant of its type in the Eastern
Province and most of the production equipment
is the first of its type anywhere in the Middle East.

Khonaini International Company has grown from

modest beginnings to extensive business interest
throughout Jubail City, The Eastern Province of
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Among these
businesses, JCP is one of the successful divisions
and produces Quality Precast Concrete Products
that is currently marketed throughout Saudi
Arabia.
