During the last few decades, the gender wage gap has been accelerating significantly and shows
no obvious sign of slowing down due to the difference in occupational path and earnings.
According to a recent estimate, females generally earned less than meals, worsening in multiple
different races and ethnicity. While this situation is nuanced and complicated, people globally
have conducted intense protests for woman's rights and equality in labor participation. I strongly
believe there are some major reasons leading to this advocacy, including women's empowerment
and the similar capability between both genders.
Understanding the definition of the “gender wage gap” is as imperative as digging into and
implementing realistic solutions to approach it. According to americanprogress.org, the gender
wage gap is “the difference in earnings between women and men.” It is controversial to pinpoint
the accurate emergence of this issue, but in essence, the gender wage gap began intensifying in
the 1860s as a political issue in the USA. No specific enforcement or official laws had been put
forward, except for some vigorous advocates from residents to eliminate this gap, but failed
miserably for approximately a century. Fortunately, the problem started catching on and
receiving more public attention, specifically when President John. F. Kenedy announced this
disparity as an “unconscionable practice” (based on an article from Investopedia), considering
the statistic that women, on average, earned 60% less than men. Governments and authorities
have taken action and passed legislation to effectively tackle this problem, including the
“PayCjeck Fairness Act” in 2009 with numerous antidiscrimination laws and penalties for
violators. Despite that determination and progressive effort, the problem has merely improved
slightly to 84% earned by women less than men according to data accumulated in 2021. The
most praiseworthy publishment is “the Equal Day Pay”, occurring annually on March 14th,
2023. The ven highlights the significant difference in gender’s pay and workforce, providing
females more opportunities to fulfilling jobs and promotions. But why government and citizens
paid attention to equalizing the earning desperately in the first place?
The ultimate and major contribution is economic development. When getting rewarding
promotions and experiencing equal opportunities as men, women will be motivated to work
productively and showcase their maximum capabilities just like female workers. Consequently,
companies will witness enormous growth and positive outcome from both genders, releasing
more worthwile products, satisfying customer interest, and hence, boosting the overall economy
and revenue. To illustrate, Facebook, one of the most wide-utilized platforms to facilitate
communication and entertainment, really cared for gender equality in this male-dominated
industry. Women worldwide are encouraged to participate in numerous conversations, and
discussions to connect and contribute to this glorious success of Facebook. When implementing
different techniques to help women feel appreciated and valued equally, they will dedicate and
collaborate to bring about success for any given organization and country.
Another reason leading to the supportive advocacy for narrowing the salary bridge is that gender
quality is a fundamental human right. Regardless of any different race, sex, or skin color,
everyone deserves to be respected and treated fairly. Imagine being isolated and discriminated
against because of your socioeconomic status and educational attainment. Receiving less
education or having black skin doesn’t mean you are separated from the rest. We are capable and
resilient, we don’t have to let those sarcastic criticisms and everyone’s unbiased prejudices stop
us from achieving and accomplishing our ambitions. Give the world your voice and you will
unleash your maximum potential. Similarly, when experiencing salary differences, you have the
right to refuse that discrimination and inspire others to eliminate and put an end to this issue. No
matter how challenging or daunting it takes to completely eradicate the problem, women and
men are both human beings and they need quality to thrive and flourish in this society.
In conclusion, while the gender wage gap is a complex issue that required long-lasting effort and
sustainable solutions, by allocating the equal amount of salary and giving credit to women’s
perseverance and resilience, I believe this problem will be addressed in the foreseeable future to
ensure a more healthy-living and economic prosperity of that particular nation.
