Laboratory equipments and apparatuses are instruments and tools to carry out different
experiments in a lab. It enable us to work safely with hazardous chemicals without getting
harmed. Many accidents that occur in a laboratory is due to improper use of tools and
equipments that can result to great harm.
LAB EQUIPMENTS IN A LAB
Most students have a common 5 out of 8 students acquire the knowledge

with the school laboratory and as well
as its equipments. These tools plays
an vital role in the experiments in
terms of accuracy and reliability of
the data used in every procedure.
These allows the experiments
performed to be ensured to be
replicated and performed repeatedly
by chemists and scientists.
Beakers Erlenmeyer Flasks

containers with a flat Erlenmeyer flasks, are

Burette
Burette, a laboratory apparatus used in
quantitative chemical analysis to
measure the volume of a liquid or a
gas. It consists of a graduated glass
tube with a stopcock (turning plug, or
spigot) at one end.
Condensers
Lab glassware condensers
are components used to
cool the hot vapors that
result from boiling or
heated liquids. There are
numerous varieties of
condensers: they can be
divided by application
type, by cooling method,
and by size.

kinds of laboratory samples,
powder, liquids, or even
capsules. It is shaped as a
tube with a flat bottom
unlike other glasswares.
Glass Stirring Rod
These are used to stir or mix
solutions. One of their main
functions is to scratch the side of
the glassware to start the
crystallization process in many
experiments.
Glass Sampling Tubes
are hand held glass that is commonly used for
mixing or heating liquids, and chemicals in a
laboratory. These are thick and made from
expansion-resistant glasses, mostly
borosilicate glass or sometimes fused quartz.
They are easier to see through than plastic
tubes.

Centrifuge tube
These are used to contain liquids
during centrifugation, which
separates the sample by spinning
it around in an axis. Most of them
have conical bottoms that help to
collect any solids or denser parts
of the sample.

Did you know that Seth Rasmussen addressed
several vital characteristics of glassware which
make it ideal to use in the laboratory. Rasmussen
suggests that glass could only be applied reliably
in laboratory apparatus from the 13th century
onwards. It was during the time when glass makers
in Venice and Murano found a new steps and
processes to improve the thermal and chemical
resistance and durability of glass by using more
calcium, magnesium and potassium salts in the
mixture.

Liquid-in-Glass
Thermometer
Liquid-in-Glass Thermometer
most commonly used device to
measure the temperature. It is
easier and less expensive to use.
consist of sealed glass and a
fluid, most commonly mercury
or red alcohol, whose volume
changes when the temperature
changes.Temperature is
indicated by the rising liquid in
the tube as it expands with rising
temperature.

Bimetallic Thermometer
This is a tool to measure
temperature. It consists of two
metal strips bonded together,
each of which expands differently
as it warms. The media's
temperature is converted into
mechanical displacement using
bimetallic strip.
Mercury Thermometer
These thermometers are commonly
not used in sectors due to their fragile
build. It is used to provide accurate
temperature readings.

Platinum Resistance
Thermometer

Platinum Resistance
Thermometer
Platinum Resistance Thermometer
uses a platinum wire attached to
an electrical resistance to measure
the temperature. Generally, these
thermometers are used to measure
outside temperatures. Platinum
Resistance thermometers are slow
and offer accurate readings.
Probe Thermometer
is a type of thermometer that
has a metal stem that is pointy.
This thermometer use a
method called contact-style
sensing method that infer by
temperature by using probes
to measure slight changes of
temperature.
Meker-Fisher Burner
A metal tube rises from a steel base.
Near the bottom of the tube is a
projection for attaching a gas line.
Directly above the projection is an air
vent. The top of the tube ends in a flared
nozzle with circular perforations fixed
over a finer mesh.
Tirrill Burner
This is used for safe continuous stream
of flammable gas used for heating,
sterilization and combustion and
specialize for finely controlled air / gas
mixture. This burner is equipped with a
gas adjustment under the burner along
with threaded air flow adjustment.

Bunsen Burner
is a type of gas burner that is widely used in
chemistry procedure in a laboratory. It is used
to put heat to the substance, to combust
substances, and sterilize small objects with
high temperature.

Goggles/Safety Goggles
it is used to protect your eyes from chemical splashes
and other substances springing out. Eyes are one of
the kost precious organs in the body but this will
ensure the safety of your eyes from toxic chemicals
while doing an experiment.
Lab Coats
While you are not going to need a full hazmat suit to
work in school and college laboratories, still you need
some level of full-body protection, if only to protect
your clothes and exposed skin.

Safety Gloves
Chemicals that you
are dealing with can
be highly corrosive.
Wearing safety
gloves is an
excellent way to
prevent yourself
from getting burns,
blisters and many
more.
First Aid Kit
Accidents commonly happen
in a laboratory. Bruises,
scratches, cuts, and burns
might happen during the
procedure. First aid is very
important in many
laboratories because it allow
us to clean, disinfect and
sanitize our wounds in case of
an accident.
Eyewash
This is used when a chemical gets into your eye
because you are not wearing safety goggles. This is
the fastest first aid in case of an eye injury during an
experimental activity.
Disposable Masks
Labs have dangerous gases and toxic particles in the
air and liquids that can splash up and hit your face.
This prevents our face from being exposed to
harmful gases and also prevent us from inhaling it.
Fire Extinguishers
Since a laboratory often works with fire, it should go
without saying that you will need at least one fire
extinguisher in your lab. In case of a fire accident,
this is used to put out any fire that is caused by an
explosion in an experiment performed.
