MOTIVATION

Think-out-of-the-box!

Imagine you are planning a family trip and need to organize all the places you want to visit, the things you
need to pack, and the budget you have. How can you keep all this information in order?
If you will be going on a vacation, how do you plan on what should you put inside your luggage? Have you
ever forgotten something essential? What do you think you should do to be organized in every trip you go?
A. ACTIVITY
Graphic Organizer Treasure Hunt

Instructions: Players work in teams to complete various challenges involving different types of graphic
organizers. The team that completes all tasks correctly and fastest wins.

Set-Up: Prepare a series of stations, each featuring a different graphic organizer and a related challenge.
Create clue cards that guide players from one station to the next.
Completion and Clues: After completing the task at each station, teams receive a clue card guiding them to
the next station.

Gameplay:

Start the Hunt: Give each team a starting clue card that leads them to their first station.

STATION CHALLENGES:

Venn Diagram Station: Teams receive two topics and must use a Venn diagram to list similarities and
differences.

Mind Map Station: Teams are given a central idea and must create a mind map with at least four branches
and sub-branches.

Flowchart Station: Teams receive a process (e.g., making a sandwich) and must create a flowchart that
outlines each step.

Cause and Effect Station: Teams are given an event and must use a cause-and-effect graphic organizer to
show potential causes and effects.

T-Chart Station: Teams are given a topic and must list pros and cons using a T-chart.

Winning: The first team to complete all tasks and reach the treasure chest wins a prize.

include Venn diagrams, mind maps, flowcharts, and timelines. Using graphic organizers enhances
understanding, organization, and analysis of information across subjects. By incorporating visual
representations, students can grasp complex concepts more effectively, leading to improved learning
outcomes. To further explore this topic, students can read articles on the benefits of graphic organizers in
education and practice creating their own organizers for different subjects.

Presenting Ideas using a Variety of Graphic Organizers

• One strategy for generating ideas is the use of graphic organizers.

• There are number of ways on how to organize information or notes taken from an expository text
depending on the type of text used.
• The purpose of an expository text is to inform, analyze, explain, or offer additional data about a
 topic.

Below are ways on how to organize notes from an expository text based on the type of text used.

IDEA WEB

• a web is a type of graphic organizer that groups categories of information into associated
themes. Webs are typically used by students, teachers and professionals as brainstorming strategies
for developing and connecting ideas.

CHART

• a sheet exhibiting information in tabular form. a graphic representation, as by curves, of a

dependent variable, as temperature, price, etc.; graph. a map, especially a hydrographic or marine
map.

T-CHART

• are a type of chart, a graphic organizer in which a student lists and examines two facets of a topic,

DESCRIPTIVE CHART

• the text includes listing the characteristics, features, examples, and other information about the topic
• You may also write to describe a person, place, thing, event, or experience.
• It contains a write-up detail and allows readers to form pictures and imagination in their minds such
as they can almost hear, feel, smell, or taste what is being described.

SEQUENCE CHART

• the text includes listing the events, the items, and the arrangement in chronological order.
• You may write to narrate a story, where characters move and act in a series of events called a plot.
• A narrative presents a beginning, twist and an ending.

VENN DIAGRAM

• the text shows how two things, places, person, and ideas are alike
• it also shows the differences

CAUSE AND EFFECT

• It is called Cause and Effect the fact that it gives the reason why an event or something happened
and explaining what caused the effect.

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

 • the text analyzes a problem and then proposes a possible solution.

DIFFERENTIATED TASK
Directions: Read and understand the poem entitled “I am an African Child”. Afterwards, group yourselves
into five (5) groups. Each group will be assigned with different tasks that has to be accomplished in 20
minutes.

Merciful – Using a Venn diagram, compare the child in the poem and you as an Asian youth.
Authentic – With the use of an idea web, jot down the characteristics of the child in the poem.
Respectful – Using a T-chart, write down facts and opinions about Africans.
Integrative – Sequence the series of things that the child underwent in the poem.
Accountable – Using a chart, write down the characteristics of an African, American, and Asian kid.

V. ASSIGNMENT/AGREEMENT
Assignment: Create a Family tree using any of the graphic organizers.
