3000 FLAT METERS

HISTORY OF THE 3000 FLAT METERS

The 3000 meter dash is a middle-distance test of current athletics that in its men's
form has never been part of the program of the Olympic Games or the World
Athletics Championships .

In the women's category, this test debuted in the Olympic Games in 1984 in the
edition held in Los Angeles , and then disappeared in 1996 in the Games held in
Atlanta , when it was replaced by the 5000 meter dash test. Likewise, in the World
Athletics Championships, this event was only held in the first four editions until, in
the edition held in Gothenburg , in 1995, it was also replaced by the 5000 meter dash test.

DESCRIPTION OF THE 3000
FLAT METERS

This test can be considered the shortest distance

background test. It is a non-Olympic event, although in
some previous Olympics it has been performed only by
women.
Athletes, once they complete half a complete lap, must
complete 7 more laps to complete the distance.
Like the 1500 test and the other long-distance events
(5000 and 10000), the race does not take place in lanes,
and the athletes, once the starting signal is given, will
progressively join lanes 1 and 2.

2.TECHNIQ
UE
The technique of the distance runner (From 3000 to Marathon) is practically the same as that of the middle distance runner
(800fundamental
The and 1500). The
difference between these tests and speed tests is the support of the foot. In speed, the support is mainly
provided by the metatarsus, while in the long and medium distance the sole is increasingly supported (the lower the speed, the
greater the support of the sole).

RACE TECHNIQUE

The first part of the technique of this test is basically the same as that of the 100 meter test. The main adaptations of the running
technique for this test are: a) More relaxed body
b) Arms hanging naturally
c) Wide stride length
d) Knee height adjustment to enable greater looseness
e) Foot support. There is greater contact of the sole of the foot with the ground in speed tests.
f) It is necessary to have an exact knowledge of the pace and rhythm.

3. THE ATHLETE
BIOTYPE

They are quite thin athletes although with marked muscles. They have a large
percentage of red or slow twitch fibers .
They need great capillarization , that is, their muscles are perfectly irrigated for the
supply of nutrients and oxygen. This quality, partly innate, is greatly developed with
aerobic resistance training.
Red fibers contain a large number of mitochondria and myoglobins . Myoglobins
transport oxygen to the mitochondria, which oxidize fatty acids and sugars to obtain
useful energy for the body.

TRAINING

In this test the training is similar to that of 5000 m. and 10,000 m., although the
distances traveled are usually somewhat shorter and there is a somewhat faster race
pace.
