Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in

Technology and Livelihood Education

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. Identify the characteristics of DC and AC power.
b. Differentiate between DC and AC power applications.
c. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of DC and AC power in various
scenarios.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Difference between Direct Current(DC) power and Alternating Current (AC)
power
Instructional Material/s: Diagrams showing DC and AC current flow, video
presentation on DC and AC power, batteries, simple generator, worksheets, projector
Reference: Tech Tips: Difference between DC and AC
Release: 2021-08-12, I.R. Update: 2022-10-17, M.P.
Matsusada Precision
Values: Understanding the practical applications and safety considerations of
different types of electrical power.
III. PROCEDURES
Teachers Activity Student’s activity
A. Preliminary Activity
1. Greetings
“Good Morning Class” “Good Morning Sir!!”
2. Opening Prayer
“Pls all stand for an opening prayer Students will pray
Mr./Ms. ____ Pls lead the prayer”
3. Classroom Management
“Before you take your seat can you pls pick up the
unnecessary things around you and arrange your Student clean their area,
chair” arrange their chair and take
the seat
4. Checking of attendance

“Who is absent today?” “No absent today sir”

B. Introduction
1.Motivation
 Showing a video about various devices
powered by DC and AC electricity
Instructions:
Watch the video attentively and list down at Watch the video and list
least three devices that use DC power and down devices.
three devices that use AC power.

2. Recall
 Discussing previous knowledge about
electricity and its basic principles.
Questions:

 What is electricity? Participate in the discussion

 Can you name some devices that use and answer questions.
electricity

3. Activity
 A simple hands-on activity demonstrating
DC and AC power using batteries and a
power outlet that use safety devices. Work note observations
Directions: about the teacher that

diagrams and real-life examples to illustrate Take notes on characteristics
DC current flow. and examples.
 Discuss applications such as batteries and
solar cells.

 Explain the characteristics of AC power

(alternating direction and voltage). Using
diagrams to illustrate AC current flow.
 Discuss applications such as household Engage in discussion and
outlets and power plants. contribute examples.
Comparison

 A comparative chart on the board

summarizing the characteristic, advantages
and disadvantages of DC and AC power.
Fill in the chart with
advantages and
disadvantages by their
understanding and
experience.

4. Abstraction

Engage students in a Q&A session to reinforce

understanding and clarify concepts.

Questions:

IV. Evaluation
Directions: Read each question carefully and
ensure you understand what is being asked
before selecting your answer. Choose the one
that best answers the question. Be sure to
answer all 10 questions.

Complete the quiz

The teacher provide a 10 item quiz individually
V. Performance Task.
Directions: Design a simple circuit using either
DC or AC power and present the design after.

Criteria: Work on the project in

groups, design the circuit,
 Clearly labeled diagram. and prepare a presentation.
 Explanation of circuit operation.
 Justification for choosing DC or AC power.

Assignment
Directions: Research and write a report on the
importance of AC power in household appliances
and DC power in electronic devices.

Guidelines: Conduct research, write the

report, and prepare to
 Minimum of 1 page. present findings.
 Include examples of household appliances
(AC) and electronic devices (DC).
 Discuss reasons for using each power type.
