2. A mass of 0.28 g of a gaseous compound of formula CnH2n occupies a volume of 0.224 dm3
at STP conditions. Find the value of n.
3. Ethanoic acid, CH3COOH, burns in air according to the following equation:
CH3COOH + 2 O2® 2 CO2 + 2 H2O

120 g of CH3COOH were burned in 67.2 dm3 of oxygen according to the above equation.
Calculate the maximum volume of CO2 produced at STP.

certain temperature and pressure, find the number of moles of oxygen that combine with 7
moles of CO under the same conditions.
8. What mass of C3H8 will exert a pressure of 8.0 atm when filled in a l00 cm3 vessel at 127
°C?

a) Calculate the number of moles of magnesium involved in the reaction.

b) Calculate the number of moles of hydrogen gas that were produced.

c) Calculate the volume occupied by the hydrogen produced under the given conditions.

10. 180 kJ of energy are required to vaporize 1.0 mole of KBr.


Write an equation, with state symbols, to represent the reaction, and calculate the amount of

11. Equal volumes, 500 cm3 each, of 1.0 M lead nitrate, Pb(NO3)2, solution and 1.0 M sodium
chloride, NaCl, solution were mixed together.
Knowing that lead chloride, PbCl2, has a negligible solubility in water:

A. Write a net ionic equation that shows the precipitation.

B. Calculate the number of moles of the precipitate formed.


C. Find the final concentration of each ion in the mixture.

12. The atomic mass of magnesium, Mg, is 24.0.

18. Barium chloride solution, BaCl2, and sodium sulfate solution, Na2SO4, react to produce a
white precipitate of barium sulfate according to the equation:

BaCl2 (aq) + Na2SO4 (aq) ® BaSO4 (s) + 2 NaCl (aq)

In an experiment, 50.0 cm3 of 0.100 M BaCl2 solution was mixed with 50 cm3 of 0.15 M
Na2SO4 solution. Calculate the maximum mass of BaSO4 that will precipitate.

19. Magnesium metal reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce a salt and hydrogen gas
according to the following:

Mg + 2 HCl → MgCl2 + H2

500cm3 of a 1.4M solution of HCl were introduced into a 5dm3 sealed vessel that contains
a magnesium strip of mass 7.2g.
The temperature of the vessel being 127°C, find the pressure exerted by the gas produced.

20. 40 cm3 of 0.20M of potassium chloride, KCl, were added to 60 cm3 of 0.40 M of calcium
chloride, CaCl2.

b) Calculate the total concentration of the chloride ions present in the solution, given
that no reaction takes place when the solutions are mixed.
