Air Marshal Brijesh Dhar Jayal applauded Aarambh – The Debating Society of
Law College Dehradun for taking up a topic which is immensely ignored but of
utmost importance to the country, defense indigenization.
The Debate was on the motion ‘THBT the defense inigenisation program does
more harm than good.’
Speakers for the motion spoke that the economy of India is not ready for such a
big program and that our programs do not match up to the global standards. A
speaker raised a point that there are several programs such as Tejas which took
32 years to be incorporated.
However, a speaker against the motion rebutted by saying that the delay was
due to India being new to the concept. The against speakers also asserted that
during the 1960 crisis period of India ,indigenous aircrafts were still being
produced and therefore, the efficiency of the defence indigenization program
cannot be questioned.
In general, speakers for the motion believed that the politicization of the
program is a major cause for the downfall of the program. However, in general,
speakers against the motion believed that India’s geopolitical condition requires
for it to attain a hegemonic status such as that of China which may be attained
through Defence Indigenisation.
A total of 50 debaters participated in the debate.
