Lesson Plan in Mathematics 9

I. Objectives
Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of parallelograms
and triangle similarity.
Performance Standard: The learner is able to investigate, analyze, and solve problems
involving parallelograms and triangle similarity through appropriate and accurate representation.
Learning Competencies/Objectives: The learner determines the conditions that make a
quadrilateral a parallelogram. (M9GE-IIIa-2 )
In this lesson, students are expected to:
1. identify quadrilateral that are parallelograms
2. determines the properties of a parallelogram.
3. participates actively in class discussions/interactions

II. Content
Topic: Quadrilaterals
Reference: Teachers Guide, Learners Module
Materials: ICT, chalk and blackboard
Value Focus: Rationality

III. Procedures
A. Pre-Activity
Attendance Check

B. Motivation
What would you think will happen if we change the shape of the things that we
commonly used?

C. Discussion of Lesson:

 Presentation the topic “Quadrilaterals”.

A quadrilateral is a polygon having four sides, four angles, and four
vertices. The word ‘quadrilateral’ is derived from the Latin words ‘quadri,’ which
means four, and ‘latus’, which means side.

 Let the students determine if the following shapes is a quadrilateral or

not.
Ask them how they come up to that answer.

 Presentation of the subtopic “Parallelogram” under the topic

“Quadrilateral”
A Parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides. The opposite
or facing sides of a parallelogram are of equal length and the opposite angles of a
parallelogram are of equal measure.
 Properties of a Parallelogram
1. In a parallelogram, any two opposite side are equal.
2. In a parallelogram, any two opposite angle are equal.
3. In a parallelogram, any two consecutive angles are supplementary.
4. The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other.
5. A diagonal of a parallelogram forms two congruent triangles.

 Let the students determine if the following shapes is a parallelogram or

not.
Ask them how they come up to that answer.

D. Generalization
What is a Quadrilateral?
What is a Parallelogram?
How can we determine if the Quadrilateral is a Parallelogram?

IV. Assessment:
Identify whether the following polygons is a quadrilateral or not. Then determine
whether that quadrilateral is a parallelogram or not. Put a check mark ( ) under the
appropriate column.

QUADRILATERAL PARALLELOGRAM NOT

1. Rectangle
2. Kite
3. Rhombus
4. Triangle
5. Square
6. Circle
7. Irregular
quadrilateral
8. Trapezoid

V. Assignment
Have a list of anything inside your house that resembles a shape of a quadrilateral. Write your
answer in a ½ sheet of pad paper.
