uniformly.
Section B (2x4)
9. A calorie is a unit of heat or energy and it equals 4.2 J where 1J = 1 kg m2s–2.
Suppose we employ a system of units in which unit of mass is α kg, unit of length is β

b = 2.5 ms-2 and t is measured in seconds. What is its velocity at t = 0 s and t = 2.0 s.
What is the average velocity between t = 2.0 s and t = 4.0 s ?
12. A car moving along a straight highway with speed of 126 km h-1 is brought to a
stop within a distance of 200 m. What is the retardation of the car (assumed
uniform), and how long does it take for the car to stop?
Section C (3x2)

Section E (5x1,3x1)
17. Average Speed and Average Velocity
When an object is in motion, its position changes with time. So, the quantity that
describes how fast is the position changing w.r.t. time and in what direction is given by
average velocity. It is defined as the change in position or displacement (Δx) divided by
the time interval (Δt ) in which that displacement occur. However, the quantity used to
describe the rate of motion over the actual path, is average speed. It defined as the total
distance travelled by the object divided by the total time taken.

40 s. Its average velocity (in m/s) is
(a) zero (b) 2 (c) 4π (d) 8π
18. Measurement of Physical Quantity
All engineering phenomena deal with definite and measured quantities and so depend on
the making of the measurement. We must be clear and precise in making these
measurements. To make a measurement, magnitude of the physical quantity (unknown)
is compared.
The record of a measurement consists of three parts, i.e. the dimension of the quantity,
the unit which represents a standard quantity and a number which is the ratio of the
measured quantity to the standard quantity.
(i) A device which is used for measurement of length to an accuracy of about 10-5m, is
(a) screw gauge (b) spherometer (c) vernier calipers (d) Either (a) or (b)
(ii) Which of the technique is not used for measuring time intervals?

measurement by scale = 0.1 cm, then the area is
(a) 22.0 cm2 (b) 21.0 cm2 (c) 22.5 cm2 (d) 21.5 cm2
