Assignment Name: Important mathematical rules for the conduction of
Textile wet processing experiment

Section 1
Objective of this study
1. To know the important rules required in Textile Wet processing
calculation.

2. To know how to prepare a stock solution for solid chemicals/dyes and

liquid chemicals

3. To know how to calculate the total amount of Liquor for a Textile Wet
processing experiment.

4. To know how to calculate the required amount of solution for a chemical

when it is expressed as a percentage (%) in a recipe.

5. To know how to calculate the required amount of solution for a chemical

when expressed as grams per litre (g/l) in the recipe.

6. To know how to calculate the freshwater required in total Liquor for an

experiment.

Section 2
Important Mathematical Rules:
Rule – 01: Calculation of the total amount of Liquor.

The total amount of Liquor (cc) = MW x L

Where, MW = Material weight,
L = M: L ratio
Example:
Say, MW = 5 gm (100% cotton Fabric),
M: L = 1:20
Hence, Total Liquor = 5 x 20= 100 ml or cc.
Rule – 02: Calculation of the required amount of solution for a chemical,
when it is expressed as a percentage (%) in the recipe.

The required amount of solution (cc) =

Example:
Say, MW = 5 gm,
Chemical require = 2% in recipe
Stock solution = 1%

The required amount of chemical (ml) =

= 10 ml or cc

Rule – 03: Calculation of the required amount of solution for a chemical,

when it is expressed as gram per litre (g/l) in the recipe.

The required amount of chemical (cc) =

Example:
Say, MW = 5 gm,
Chemical require = 20 g/l in recipe
Stock solution = 5 %
L= 1:20
The required amount of chemical (ml) =

= 40 ml or cc
Rule – 04: Calculation of fresh water requirement in total Liquor.
Freshwater requirement (cc)
= Total liquor – (chemical-1 soln + chemical-2 soln + …)

Example:
Total liquor = 100 cc
n
Chemical-1 sol = 20 cc
Chemical-2 soln = 10 cc

Hence, Fresh-water requirement (cc) = 100 cc – (20 cc + 10 cc)

= 100 cc -30 cc

= 70 cc
Rule – 05: Preparation of stock solution for a solid chemical
compound /dyes (2% dye stock solution).
 Take 2 gm powder dyes by electrical balance.
 Please put it in 100 ml cold water in a glass beaker.
 Then stir with a glass rod.

2 gm solid powder dyes

(Only 100 ml water)

Rule – 06: Preparation of stock solution for a liquid chemical

compound (3 % acetic acid stock solution).
 Take 3 ml liquid acetic acid by pipette.
 Please put it in 97 ml cold water in a glass beaker.
 Then stir with a glass rod.

(97 ml water + 3 ml acid)
