UNIT - 1

1. State ohm’s law and its limitations.


2. State and explain Kirchhoff’s laws. Calculate the current in 15Ω and 20Ω resistors using
Kirchhoff’s laws

5. Give the statement of Thevenin’s and Norton’s Theorem and calculate the current
through the 0.56 kΩ using Thevenin’s and Norton’s theorem.

UNIT - II
1. Explain about Series R-L-C Resonance circuit. Define and derive the expressions for
resonance frequency, bandwidth and quality factor.
2. a) Explain about the sinusoidal analysis for series R-L circuit when supplied by a voltage
v(t) = Vm sinwt. Draw the phasor diagram
b) A coil has a resistance of 4Ω and an inductance of 9.55mH. Calculate i) Reactance ii)
Impedance and iii) the current taken from a 240 V, 50 HZ supply.
3. Define RMS Value and Average Value. Calculate RMS and Average Value of following
Waveform

4. Explain about the sinusoidal analysis for Pure resistive, Pure inductive and Pure capacitive
circuit when supplied by a voltage v(t) = Vm sinwt. Draw the phasor diagrams.
5. Give the voltage and current relations in three phase star and delta connection with neat
diagrams.
6. An Inductive coil having resistance of 8Ω and inductance of 20 mH is connected in series with
a capacitance of 14µF across 110 v,50Hz supply. Calculate 1) current, 2) power factor 3) voltage
across the resistor.

UNIT-III
1. a) Derive the EMF equation of the transformer
b) A 20 KVA, 2000/200V single phase transformer has the following parameters.
H.V. winding: R 1=3Ω, X1=5.3Ω; L.V.winding: R2=0.05Ω, X2=0.1Ω. Find the voltage
regulation at
i) Power factor of 0.8 lagging ii) unity power factor iii) 0.707 power factor leading
2.a) Draw the phasor diagram of single-phase transformer with load having unity power factor,
lagging and leading power factor.
b) A 100 KVA single phase transformer has full load primary current of 400A and total
resistance referred to primary is 0.006Ω. If the iron loss amounts to 500W, find the
efficiency at full load and half load at i) Unity power factor ii) 0.8 power factor

b) A 4 pole, 500V Shunt motor has 720 wave connected conductors on its armature, the full
load armature current is 60A, and flux per pole is 0.03 wb. The armature resistance is 0.2
ohms and contact drop are 1v/brush. Calculate the full load speed.
3. Explain about the various losses in a DC machine
4 a) Explain about the different types of DC Generators and motors with their electrical
Equivalent Circuits
b) A 250 V, 25 HP dc shunt motor has 4 poles and 540 conductors and is lap connected. The
resistance of armature and field windings are 0.1Ω and 250Ω respectively. When the machine is
taking a current of 90A and running at a speed of 1500 rpm, compute (i) armature torque (ii)
useful torque (iii) flux/pole (iv) total copper loss (V) efficiency.
5. a) Explain torque-slip characteristics in three phase induction motor
b) A three phase, 400 V, 50 HZ, 4 pole induction motor has star connected stator winding.
The rotor resistance and reactance are 0.1Ω and 1Ω respectively. The full load speed is
1440 rpm. Calculate the torque developed on full load by the motor. Assume stator to rotor
ratio as 2:1
6) Explain the construction and working principle of three phase induction motor and explain
about the concept of rotating magnetic field in a three-phase induction motor.
7) Explain with a neat diagram, the working principle of synchronous generator
