SCOPE
These specifications cover the minimum requirements of KOC for
induction motors operating at voltages of 3.3 and 11 kV. Normally
the ratings of induction motors will be upto 1200 kW at 3.3 kV and
above 1200 kW at 11 kV, or otherwise specified for different
applications.

The specification is intended to cover all classes of induction motors

generally used in the oil industry applications, in addition to explosion
protection type.

Motors for special applications such as downhole duties, totally

submerged or with hollow shafts are not covered under this
document.

General Reauirements

All motors shall be manufactured and supplied in accordance with the

latest publication no. 132 of EEMUA.

Unless otherwise specified, the insulation of winding shall be class 'F'

but the temperature rise of the motor shall not exceed to that
applicable to class 'B' insulation.

All windings shall be adequately supported, braced and blocked to

provide sufficient rigidity during normal operating conditions. The
bracing shall be adequate enough to withstand direct on line starting
and re-switching at a value of residual voltage of at least 30% of
rated voltage and 180" out of phase with the supply voltage. Bracing
shall be capable of preventing the resonant vibration of over hung
end-windings.

In case of vertical motors "winding Support" shall prevent any

dropping or permanent displacement of windings.

All insulated windings shall be non-hygroscopic, oil resistant and

resistant to other materials of flame propagation. The windings shall
be impregnated and suitably processed to effectively seal them to
prevent deterioration during adverse environmental and operational
conditions.

Surge withstand capability of a winding to earth shall be a peak

+
voltage of (4U 5 kV) and a wavefront rise time to the peak voltage
of 1.2" microseconds.

Motors for rated voltage of 3.3 kV and above shall be provided with
at least six embedded temperature detectors 2 per phase for
monitoring Stator winding temperature.
DOC. KOC Std. EOOl Page 5 of 17 Revision 2

The detectors shall be wired to a terminal box separate from the main
and heater terminal boxes and shall be protected against over voltage.

Unless otherwise specified the type of temperature detector should

be thermocouple or resistance thermometer. All embedded
temperature detectors shall have the same characteristics.

Temperature indicating instruments, alarm and or other devices if

required for use on site shall be provided separately.

Motors shall be rated for a single voltage and shall comply with duty
and maximum continuous rating.

Where there is a likelihood of condensation occurring due to service

or process conditions, motors shall be provided with a suitably rated
anti-condensation heater.

Anti-condensation heaters shall be suitable for operation on a 250V

a.c. supply with a visible warning "Heater Supply On".

When a motor is provided with a heater or temperature detectors, the

connections for each such device shall be brought out to seperate
terminal boxes. Each of these terminal boxes shall be provided with
an internal earth terminal and be protected against over voltage.

The design criteria of motors shall apply to all facilities of KOC

operational fields and associated locations.

Phase Seauence

The Company's Standard Phase sequence is in the order of R-B-Y

(Red-Blue-Yellow) as against to National and most International
Standards. Unless specified the company's phase sequence will be
applicable for all installations.

Motor rotation shall be checked, particularly before connecting high

voltage and heavy current cables.

Correction of rotation where required shall be at motor's terminal and

not else where in the electrical supply.
DOC. KOC Std. EOO1 I Page 6 of 17 Revision 2

The company's and national system frequency at all voltages is 50Hz.

In a particular case it might be specified 60Hz, for some remote
areas.

In the high voltage (H.V.) range, the company's Standard voltage

supplies are:-

66kV 3Phase, 3 Wire

33kV 3Phase, 3 Wire
1lkV 3Phase, 3 Wire neutral low resistance earthed.
3.3kV 3Phase, 3 Wire neutral solidly earthed.
