SCOPE
These specifications cover the minimum requirements of KOC for
induction motors operating at voltages of 3.3 and 11 kV. Normally
the ratings of induction motors will be upto 1200 kW at 3.3 kV and
above 1200 kW at 11 kV, or otherwise specified for different
applications.
General Reauirements
Motors for rated voltage of 3.3 kV and above shall be provided with
at least six embedded temperature detectors 2 per phase for
monitoring Stator winding temperature.
DOC. KOC Std. EOOl Page 5 of 17 Revision 2
The detectors shall be wired to a terminal box separate from the main
and heater terminal boxes and shall be protected against over voltage.
Motors shall be rated for a single voltage and shall comply with duty
and maximum continuous rating.

Terminoloay
This document will refer "KOC" as the Kuwait Oil Company (KSC)
5.1 Motors shall conform in design, material and performance with the
current issues and amendments of the Standards listed below.
However the list does not preclude the use of other technical source
of information, provided that they do not conflict with the listed
Codes & Standards.
5.2 Any exceptions or deviations from this standard, along with their
merits and justifications, shall be brought t o the attention of KOC's
Standard Division for their review, consideration and amendment o f
standard if required.
5.3 i n the event of conflict between this Standard and the Codes referred
in this Section, the most stringent requirement shall apply, unless
otherwise specified,

6. Environmental Conditions
6.2 The humidity can pose a serious problem where the relative humidity
level of 10 0 % becomes the normal part of atmosphere at the facility.
Desian Reauirements
7.1 The motor shall be designed as three Phase cage induction for
continuous operation on rated voltage.
7.2 The motor shall comply with all relevant Standards mentioned above
and other supplemented specifications for use in hazardous area.
7.3 The motor shall be capable of operating at full load under the severe
weather conditions of Kuwait where the ambient temperature rises to
50°C under shade with relative humidity of 90% and occasional
condensation.
7.4 The design shall prevent the accumulation of moisture within the
enclosure. If the drain hole is provided it shall be at the lowest part of
stator, accessible for the removal of threaded plug whilst the machine
is operating.
7.7 Where specified the motor shall comply with the relevant Standard as
cited below.
7.8 Motors for use in hazardous area shall have the certification from
appropriate authority identified in IEC 79-0.
Terminal Box
8.2 Motor manufacturers will seal adequately all open cable entries
according to (IP55) to prevent the ingress of water or other harmful
materials.
8.3 Motor terminal boxes shall be provided on either side of the motor to
accommodate the incoming cables and protection current
transformers.
Bearing shall be in Metric sizes and comply with the International Standards
Organization's (ISO) recommended dimensions.
Vibration
The bearing design shall provide sufficient damping to minimize the rotor
vibration. The motors with rating of 750 kW and above shall have provision
for fitting vibration monitoring equipment at each bearing. If not specified
the limit of vibration shall conform t o BS4999 Part 142. Monitoring
equipment shall be non contacting proximity probes complying with API
670.
DOC. KOC Std. E O O l I Page 10 of 17 Revision 2
Lubrication
11.2 Grease lubricated bearing shall have pressure relief devices which
ensure that the new grease displaces the maximum amount of old
grease and ejects the surplus grease outside the motor.
Paintinq
All motors shall be painted in the livery of light grey unless specified for
other shade. The paint shall withstand salt laden atmosphere with a good
resistant quality against acid, alkaline and high temperatures.
Mechanical Handling
13.1 It should be suitably arranged for jacking points in all three planes,
easily identified on the motor or accompanied equipment's drawing.
13.2 Where it is intended to use spreader bars for lifting all or part of
machine or where special handling precautions are necessary, it shall
be highlighted on a suitable plate affixed to the external surface of the
motor.
-
Noise Limits
Unless specified for other value the maximum noise level at 1m from the
motor surface shall not exceed 81 dB(A) when operating at rated voltage
and speed.
lns~ectionand Testing
Apart from the above cited abbreviated tests the manufacturers shall
provide the complete test results in accordance with clause 12.3 of
EEMUA Publication No. 132.(Shown in the Appendix 1 .)
