Grammar
Compound sentences
A sentence that expresses two complete thoughts is a
compound sentence. In a compound sentence, two
independent clauses can be combined to make one
sentence using a comma (,) and the word and, but, or.
Example:
I like coffee. Mary likes tea.
I like coffee, but many likes tea.
NOTICE THAT:
In the compound sentence after the comma and the connecting
word (but), we don’t start the second sentence in a capital letter.

Suffixes

Suffix: A suffix is a letter or group of letters that goes on


the end of a word and changes the word's meaning.

Types of Sentences

A declarative sentence tells something and ends with a period. (.)

An interogative sentience asks a questions and ends with a question


mark. (?)

An exclamatory sentience express strong feeling and ends with an


exclamation point. (!)

Authors(writers) always have main idea in their writings.
The main idea is the most important idea in the text.
Authors also include details to support the main idea.
EXAMPLE:

think in logical way.)

Give your opinion
Authors write to share their opinions with readers. In order to share
your opinion, you should follow these steps:
 State your opinion in the first sentence clearly.
 Support your opinion with clues and reasons.
 Connect your opinion using words like, For example, so and as
a result.

Using punctuation in texts
Authors use punctuation to make it better. They use punctuation at
the end of each sentence.

Adding details
Authors add details to their writing to make it more
interesting. These details give more information.

Authors often include pictures to make the text clear and to
add more information.

Authors organize their ideas to help the reader to understand
their ideas. When they about how to do something, they
usually use some words to order the steps of doing this thing.
These words could be like, for example: First, Then, Finally.
Example:
Before you write something, First, choose the topic, then
arrange your ideas. Finally, check what you had written

to help the reader to create a mental image about people,
things and places to give live to their texts.

Authors use short sentences and long sentences as well to


make their work interesting.
Example:
The class is tidy. It is quiet. We sit on desks and listen to

subjects because these subjects aren’t clear to us.

underlined sentences are ling sentences.

Dialogue
Dialogue is the words said by the characters to each other.
Each character has a special way of speaking. Authors use
dialogue to let the reader know how each character feel.
Example:
Monkey: Hello Tar the parrot!
Parrot: Hello Sam the monkey.
Monkey: How are you today?
Parrot: I am fine today! What about you?
Monkey: I feel well today too.
