1. RATIONALE
The course is required to develop the skill of initiative, confidence and ability to tackle
new problems. It also helps in the spirit of enquiry, creativity and innovativeness. This
course develops the ability of self-directed learning, work in a team and leads the team.
It also enhances the presentation abilities of the students. Project planning is the
purposeful student activity which is planned, designed and performed by the student
individually or in a group to solve identified real life problem and providing feasible
solution.

2. COURSE OUTCOMES (COs)


At the end of this course, students will be able to

1. Carry out literature survey on recent trends in Chemical engineering / industrial,


field problem/innovative business idea to select seminar topic.
2. Prepare the seminar report on selected topic
3. Present the seminar on selected topic
4. Carry out literature survey to decide area of project topics.
5. Collect relevant information and data to prepare abstract for identified project
topics.
6. Prepare execution schedule and resources required for above selected project topics.
7. Prepare the project planning report based on above activities.
3. SUGGESTED LIST OF AREAS FOR SEMINAR

In general the seminar topics that students can be selected shall be on recent trends on
following areas.
a) Astringents and lotions.

b) Investigation on Heat Pipe.

c) Batteries power a wide range.

d) Green chemistry Biofuel.

e) Mixing equipment.

f) Green energy.

g) Energy storage.

h) Water pollution.

i) Hazardous Waste management.

j) Solar distillation.

k) Nano fluids thermal applications.

l) Bio filters for air pollution control.

m) Arsenic removal from ground water.

n) High temperature plastics.

o) Chemical Oceanography

p) Role of Nuclear energy in 21st Century

q) Energy and conservation

r) Atomic Battery design and technology

s) Liquid extraction/ potable water from industrial waste water.

t) Any other area equivalent to above & approved by guide and head of the
department

4. SUGGESTED LIST OF AREAS OF PROJECT

The type of project work may be Experiment/Design/Planning/Estimating/Proposal


Based/Fabrication/Application development &Implementation type
The project topics that students can be selected shall be on following areas
a) Quality aspects of chemical processing.

b) Any other related problems of interest of host industry.

c) Product development work.

d) Material/ composite development work.

e) Machine control/automation.

f) Market survey / Literature survey of product/ material.

g) Installation/commissioning of machine /plant.

h) Productivity improvement /cost reduction(Material, Process, Machinery)

i) Problem solving in processing /rejection analysis.

j) Maintenance/revival of units/machines.
k) Assemble parts or components to form machine or equipment.
l) Biomedical Waste Treatment - a case study of nearby plant

m) Study of causes of "failed" structures and suggesting remedial measures

n) Case study of chemical engineering related to manufacturing unit

o) Environmental impact Assessment of any Chemical Engineering project

p) Solid waste management of any nearby City

q) Automation in Chemical waste treatment plant.

r) Industry sponsored projects

s) Any other area equivalent to above & approved by guide and head of the department.

5. GUIDELINES FOR UNDERTAKING SEMINAR AND PROJECT PLANNING

The seminar topic shall be selected by individual student on recent/emerging trends


in engineering in the IIIrd odd term. The student will prepare 10-15 pages report on
seminar and finally power point presentation at the end of the term.
The selection of project title must have emphasis on the recent /innovative ideas/industrial
&field problem, solution to attain respective COs and POs of the programme. The students
will then work on the identified problem task through a rigorous process of understanding
and analyzing the problem, conducting literature survey, deriving, discussing with the
mentor/guide. Prepare the project planning report. The project team will prepare project
planning with following sub titles.

a) Title page including title of project, presented to whom, presented by whom, on what
year.
b) Certificate

c) Acknowledgement

d) Content

e) List of tables and list of figures

f) Abstract

g) Introduction

h) Literature Survey

i) Aims and Objectives

j) Problem Definition

k) Methodology of solving identified problem

l) Resources and consumable required

m) Action plan /execution schedule (sequential list of activities with probable dates)

n) Results and discussion

o) Cost estimation if applicable

p) Future scope & modification if any

q) Conclusion

r) References (Books, Journals, Papers, Websites)

6. SUGGESTED STUDENT ACTIVITIES

The students are required to carry out following activities


1) Literature survey for selecting seminar topic

2) Presentation of selected seminar by using PPT/modules/Samples/charts

3) Use of audio visual aids or power point presentation if desirable.

4) Preparation of seminar report on selected topic

5) Literature survey for selecting seminar topic

6) Literature survey for project planning

7) Maintain project diary comprising of 15-20 pages throughout the semester in which
they will record the instructions received from guide and action taken by him regularly.
8) prepare activity planning sheet

9) Interaction with batch mates

10) Interaction with guide

7. SUGGESTED INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES FOR SEMINAR AND


PROJECT
PLANNING

These are sample strategies, which the teacher can use to accelerate the attainment
of the
various outcomes in this course:
a. Finalization of seminar and project planning batches and allocation of project
guide.

b. The teacher should guide the student in selecting a topic which is relevant and
challenging for students according to their abilities.

c. The teacher should motivate students to maintain diary (log book) for project
planning activities

d. The teacher should continuously discuss with students about working of group
and progress in project planning and suggest them ways of improving.

e. The seminar and project batch size shall be 4 to 8 students

f. The seminar and project batches shall be formed as per availability of regular
faculty in Plastic and Polymer engineering and App. Mechanics Dept.

g. Certificate of completion shall be attached with Project planning report Annexure-


A

h. Involvement of students in solving real life related projects shall be promoted

i. The students may be encouraged to select areas of seminar and project planning
from the experiences about activities carried out under Government schemes such
as Unnat Bharat Abhiyan,start up etc.

8. SEMINAR AND PROJECT PLANNING REPORT

At the end of semester the student will prepare Seminar and Project planning report
separately with following guidelines.
a) The font for the report shall be Times New Roman

b) Font size: Title-capital14 bold, subtitle- capital12 bold and running matter 12

c) Margins: Left 1.5, top, bottom & side 1.0


d) Spacing :1.5

e) Sequence of titles/topics in Seminar and Project planning report shall be Cover page,
Certificate, Acknowledgement, Vision ,Mission of the institute and department and
COs , Index, Introduction, Literature survey, References (books, journals, papers and
website)

f) Seminar report shall be submitted individually and Project planning report shall be
submitted in groups.

g) Two copies of seminar and project planning shall be submitted separately

9. ASSESSMENT OF SEMINAR AND PROJECT PLANNING

• Assessment of Seminar for(30) marks shall be carried out by Demonstration /ppt


presentation and viva as per rubrics given below

• The allocation criteria for 30 marks of seminar work shall be as follows.
