Course Title: First Aid and Water Safety

Course Description:

This course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to handle emergency
situations related to water activities effectively. Students will learn essential first aid skills and gain an
understanding of water safety practices, including injury prevention, rescue techniques, and proper
response in case of water-related emergencies.

Course Duration: 12 weeks (or as appropriate for the learning environment)

Course Objectives:

1. To familiarize students with basic first aid techniques applicable to water-related incidents.

2. To enhance students' knowledge of water safety practices and their ability to assess risks.

3. To develop students' skills in recognizing, responding to, and stabilizing water-related injuries and
emergencies.

4. To equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to administer CPR and use an automated
external defibrillator (AED).

5. To promote responsible behaviour and safe practices in aquatic environments.

Course Outline:

Week 1: Introduction to First Aid and Water Safety

- Course overview, objectives, and expectations

- Importance of first aid and water safety

- Legal and ethical considerations


Week 2: Basic Life Support (CPR and AED)

- Understanding the importance of early CPR and AED use

- Hands-on practice in CPR and AED techniques

- Demonstrating proficiency in performing CPR and using an AED

Week 3: Common Water-Related Injuries

- Drowning and near-drowning incidents

- Head, neck, and spinal injuries

- Bone fractures, sprains, and strains

- Hypothermia and heat-related illnesses

Week 4: First Aid for Water-Related Injuries

- Assessment and stabilization of victims

- Management of water-related wounds and bleeding

- Immobilization techniques and splinting for fractures

- Treatment of hypothermia and heat-related illnesses

Week 5: Water Rescue Techniques

- Different rescue methods for conscious and unconscious victims

- Rescue equipment and personal safety considerations

- Simulation exercises for water rescues

Week 6: Injury Prevention and Risk Assessment

- Identifying potential hazards in aquatic environments

- Assessing the risks associated with various water activities
