I am Yola Bertilsya Hendri, I was born in Padang, 02 October 1996. I was born in a
middle-class family, my father is a private employee, and my mother is a housewife. I
have a sister who is four years older than me. My father and mother are loving parents
who care deeply about their children's education. I always get in the top three at every
level of my education. When I was six years old, I took formal education at public
elementary school 20 Mandau. I also took informal religious education at Madrasah
Diniya Awaliyah (MDA). My parents always tried to balance secular education and
religious education for their children. After graduating from elementary school then I
continued my education at Junior high school 4 Mandau. When I was in junior high
school, I participated in many extracurricular activities, such as joining the physics club
and Red Cross youth. Besides that, I also took extra lessons in the afternoon. After
graduating from junior high school, I continued my studies at public high school 2
Mandau. During high school, my passion for chemistry began to grow. Therefore, I
joined the chemistry club. Besides that, I also participated in many Olympics in the field
of chemistry. In 2014, I was chosen to represent my district to participate in Darmasiswa
Chevron Riau scholarship program. During the program, I gained many new
experiences and met new friends from various regions. Until finally, on April 30, 2014, I
was chosen to be one of the Chevron scholarship recipients to continue my
undergraduate studies.
My college life is quite fun. But the toughest period in my life happened when my father
died, it was two weeks before my graduation exam. At that time, I was not in my
hometown. Therefore, I only heard the news of my father's death over the phone. This is
enough to make me devastated. However, I remember my father's struggle to raise my
sister and me. So I thought, even though I haven't had the chance to reply yet, but I
have to make him proud. I remember that my father wanted me to pursue higher
education. Therefore, I did not give up, and finally, I graduated with honors and get the
best student achievement at engineering faculty. After graduating from college, I
immediately worked as an assistant for my professors while continuing the master's
program in chemical engineering at the University of Riau. During the master's program,
I get research grant for a thesis magister by Ministry of Education with the title:
“Modification of LiFePO4 cathode with the addition of few-layer graphene (FLG) from
mechanical liquid shear exfoliation process". During the research, my curiosity about
renewable energy and lithium-ion batteries increased. I realize that the world is growing
every second, and so is science. Getting the opportunity to continue studying the PhD
program at Ming Chi University of Technology, Taiwan, is a very happy thing for me
because I can gain more knowledge and meet many new people with different
characters and cultures. So that can improve my self quality. I have words affirmations
for myself during my life, namely: focus, discipline, consistency, honest, maximum, and
prayer. And make progress every day, even just a little progress, and today must be
better than yesterday.
Thank you
