What Is It

This is how we add the numbers using the number

chart.
 In adding numbers without regrouping, example:
15 + 14 = _____
Add the numbers in ones’ place, first.
Then, add the numbers in tens’ place.
Tens Ones
1 1 5 5
+1 +4
1 4
2 9
2 9
 In adding numbers with regrouping, example:
128 + 65 = _____
Add the numbers in the ones’ place first.
If the sum is more than 9, regroup the 1 to the
number in the tens’ place.
Add the numbers in tens’ place together with the
number that was regrouped..

5
Bring down the number in the hundreds’ place or if
there are two numbers, add the numbers
Hundreds Tens Ones

Using the long method or expanded notation, write

the expanded notation of each number.
10
a. 600 + 10 + 7
Rename or regroup the
+ 100 + 20 + 5_
700 + 40 + 2 12 ones as: 1 tens and 2
ones.
B. Express the following number to expanded
notation then, add the numbers.
1.) 426 - 4.) 435 -
+ 465 - + 235

2.) 635 - 5.) 446-

+ 148 - + 535 -

3.) 578 -
+ 314 -

7
What More

A. Add the following numbers. Write your answer in

your notebook.

358 621 784

1) 2) 3)
+ 21 + 58 + 15

236 527
4) 5)

What I Have Kearned

When adding numbers without regrouping,

we add first the numbers in ones’ place.
Then we add the numbers in tens’ place.
Finally, we add the numbers in hundreds’
place.

8
When adding numbers with regrouping,
we add first the numbers in ones’ place.
When the sum of the digits in ones’ place is
more than 9 or 10 or more, rename the
sum as ten and ones then regroup 1 to the
tens place.
When the sum of the digits in tens’ place is
more than 9 or 10 or more, rename the
sum as hundred and tens then regroup 1
hundred to the hundreds place.

What I Can Do

Find the sum.

62 525 724
1) 2) 3)
+ 34 + 53 + 42

251 856
4) 5)

Assessment

A. Write the sum of the following numbers.

153 245 167

1) 2) 3)
+ 28 + 36 + 35

438 172
4) 5)
+ 25 + 19

B. Arrange the numbers in column, and then

add. Write your answers on a pad paper.
1. 325 + 471 = 4. 706 + 136 =
2. 723 + 246 = 5. 648 + 291 =
3. 518 + 236 =

Additional Activities
