4. x−2=0x=2
Given, remainder is 14, therefore: 7. x−3=0x=3
2(2)3 − k(2)2 + (5k − 3) 2 − 8 = 14 Since, the given polynomials leave the same
16 − 4k + 10k − 6 − 8 = 14 remainder when divided by x − 3 Value of
6k = 12 polynomial 3x3 − ax2 + 5x − 13 at x = 3 is the same

as the value of polynomial (a + 1)x2 − 7x + 5 at x = Hence, the given system of equations has no
3 solution.
3(3)3 – a(3)2 + 5 3 − 13 = (a + 1) (3)2 −7 3 + 5
81 − 9a + 15 − 13 = 9a + 9 − 21 + 5 9. (i) (C) Annie's height h at any time t is given by
18a = 90 h(t) = −16t2 + 8t + k.
a=5 Initially i.e. at t = 0, it is given that Annie is
standing on a diving board, 48 feet above the
water level.
8. Graph of 2x + 4y = 10
Therefore, h = 48 at t = 0. Putting t = 0, h = 48
We have,
in h(t) = −16t2 + 8t + k, we obtain 48 = k.
5−x
2x + 4y = 10 4y = 10 − 2x y = (ii) (B) When Annie touches the water her
2 height from the water level is 0 i.e. h = 0.
5 −1 Putting
When x = 1, we have: y = =2
2 h = 0 in h(t) =−16t2 + 8t + k, we obtain
5−3 −16t2 + 8t + k = 0
When x = 3, we have y = =1
2 –16t2 + 8t + 48 = 0
– 2t2 + t + 6 = 0
2t2 – t – 6 = 0
Thus, we have the following table (t – 2) (2t + 3) = 0
x 1 3 t = 2sec.

paper. Join A and B extend it on both sides to obtain p(t) = k (t + 1) (t − 2) ...(i)
When t = 0, it is given that p(0) = 48.
the graph of 2x + 4y = 10 as shown in figure.
Putting t = 0, p(0) = 48 in (i), we obtain:
Graph of 3x + 6y = 12
48 = k(0 + 1)(0 − 2)
4−x
3x + 6y = 12; 6y = 12 − 3x y = k = −24
2 Putting k = −24 in (i),
4−x we obtain: p(t) = −24(t + 1)(t − 2) or,
When x = 2, we have, y = =1
2 p(t) = −24t2 + 24t + 48.
4−0
When x = 0, we have, y = =2

Thus, we have the following table 1 and the product as −6 is given by
x 2 0 q(t) = k(t2 − t – 6) … (ii)
y 1 2 At t = 0, it is given that q(0) = 48.
Plot the point C(2, 1) and D(0, 2) on the same graph Putting t = 0, q(0) = 48 in (ii), we obtain:
paper. Joint C and D and extend it on both sides to 48 = k(–6)
obtain the graph of 3x + 6y = 12 as shown in figure. k = –8
Putting k = −8 in (ii), we obtain,
q(t) = −8t2 + 8t + 48

So, lines will be parallel. They will not cross
each other.

Hence, (2.5, 0) will be the answer.
(iv) (B) At x – axis, y= 0
So, x = 2.5

Section-A
1. (i) Nelson Mandela joined African National Congress (ANC)
(iii) In his inaugural speech, Mandela wanted to thank African patriots who lost their lives.
(iv) The colours of the new South African flag are black, red, green, blue and yellow.
Section-B
2. (i) Anil believed in giving people second chances.
3. Nelson Mandela believed that apartheid dehumanized both the oppressors and the oppressed. The system created a
deep divide, fostering hatred and prejudice that corrupted the moral values of society. For the oppressed, it meant a
life of humiliation and lack of basic freedoms, while for the oppressors, it led to a false sense of superiority and a
loss of humanity.
4. Nelson Mandela's inauguration as the first black President of South Africa marked the end of decades of
institutionalized racial segregation and oppression. He viewed this event as a culmination of a long, arduous
struggle for freedom and equality.
5. Nelson Mandela defined courage not as the absence of fear but as the triumph over it. He believed that a brave
person is one who conquers their fear and stands up for justice and equality.
6. (i) a) requires
(ii) b) strive

8. The title "The Thief's Story" is significant as it centres on the perspective and journey of Hari Singh, the thief. It
reflects the central theme of transformation and redemption, showcasing how a person's environment and
relationships can influence their behaviour and choices. The story highlights the possibility of change and the
impact of trust and compassion on an individual's life.
9. Hari Singh justifies his decision to return the stolen money by acknowledging the trust Anil had placed in him and
feeling remorseful for betraying it. This decision reveals his internal conflict and the beginning of his moral
awakening. It shows that despite his background as a thief, Hari Singh has the potential for honesty and change
when shown kindness and trust.
Section-C
10. The relationship between Anil and Hari Singh evolves from one of mutual benefit to a deeper bond based on trust
and care. Initially, Hari Singh sees Anil as an easy target, but as Anil treats him with kindness and respect, Hari's
perspective changes. The relationship grows as Hari learns to appreciate Anil's trust, leading to his decision to
return the stolen money and change his ways as when Hari Singh stole money that was kept by Anil, Anil did not
say anything because he knew that his love would transform Hari Singh.
In short, Hari Singh befriends the struggling writer or author ‘Anil’ in the plans of executing a robbery. Anil, the
author is a good fellow and wants to teach Hari Singh how to read and write. Gradually, he develops trust in Hari
Singh.
