Midterm Project Description

1. Provide a brief description of your project including a title

The title of my project is "CHIC FEMME," a series of 15 photographs that capture the
essence of a woman who embodies freedom, confidence, and sensuality. The shots
incorporate elements of nature, the autumn season, and ancient architecture, creating a
vintage aesthetic. The use of lighting and selective black-and-white effects adds
depth, giving our model a captivating femme fatale allure.

2. Briefly define the theme and source of inspiration for your work mentioning the
photographer(s) that has mostly influenced your style:

Mario Testino is a significant source of inspiration for me. While these photos don’t
mimic his style directly, I admire the way he captures the models natural beauty and
effortlessly brings it to life. It’s simply really inspirational. Additionally, my fashion
illustration project inspired this series, as the outfits reflect the spirit of a fearless,
sexy, and chic woman who exudes confidence in what she wears and I wanted that for
this project too.

3. Expand on the key elements of your work, focusing on:

Setting and Locations:

( provide a brief description of the locations and the props involved )

The location for the shoot was Giardino dell’Orticoltura, utilizing various spots
throughout the garden, such as the benches and the glass pavilion, as props. An
umbrella was also incorporated as an additional element to enhance some pics.

Props:
( provide a brief description of your models, the make up, styling, props and clothings )
My model, Luisa, has captivating, fearless eyes that bring a powerful presence to the
camera. She wore an all-black outfit consisting of a silk skirt, a simple t-shirt, and a
jacket, creating a sleek, sophisticated and chic look. The makeup featured bold red
lips and a smoky, winged eyeliner, which added intensity and served as a striking
focal point.

Lighting and Exposure:

( describe the kind of lighting and lighting setup, provide an average exposure value you used for the project )

It was a rainy day with minimal sunlight, which created soft, diffused natural lighting.
To compensate for the low light, I used a setup that balanced the natural ambiance
while adding just enough brightness. The average settings that were used for the
project were around (1/125, 1/160, etc ) iso (400, 600, mostly 800) F(5.6, 6.3), it was
really varied as in many spots the light changed a lot and had to experiment.

4. Describe your editing and post production work with a brief focus on the adjustments
and filters you used in Adobe Photoshop.

The editing process involved enhancing vibrance and saturation, lightening the shadows, and
adding contrast and sharpness to bring out the details. I also increased the overall brightness
for a more dynamic look. In Photoshop, I refined the skin by retouching imperfections and
applied a black-and-white effect to some images for added drama. A subtle vignette was
introduced in certain shots, further intensifying the mood and drawing attention to the focal
points.
