Transparency Triumphs: Championing Accountability
to Combat Corruption in the Philippines
Could rooting out corruption be the key to unlocking the Philippines' true potential? Today I
stand before you with a heavy heart and a resolute spirit to address a pressing issue that plagues
our beloved nation— the pervasive cancer of corruption in the Philippines. Corruption, like a
silent thief, robs our country of its potential, undermines progress, and perpetuates inequality.
It's time for us to come together and take a stand against this systemic injustice. We must declare
a transparency of their transactions for we can know where our finances were put to.

Corruption corrodes the very fabric of our society, infecting every aspect of governance, from the
highest echelons of power to the grassroots level. It siphons off public funds meant for crucial
services like healthcare, education, and infrastructure, leaving our communities deprived and
vulnerable. It distorts the fair allocation of resources, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and
marginalization that affects millions of Filipino families. As well as President Joe Biden said,
“Corruption is a cancer; a cancer that eats away at citizens’ faith in democracy, diminishes the
instinct for innovation and creativity”. Leadership is what inside in a government, not any
unvaluable mess by the politicians, and if they cannot do their part, there are always have
protestants, rallies and people’s revolution.

Moreover, corruption erodes trust in our institutions and undermines the rule of law. When
those entrusted with upholding justice are themselves corrupt, it breeds a culture of impunity
where the powerful act with impunity, and the marginalized are left defenseless. This erosion of
trust not only damages our democracy but also hampers economic development and deters
foreign investment, further stunting our nation's growth potential. How can you keep your
dignity as a fellow Filipino citizen if you do start the unforgivable actions, especially the
politicians, in yourselves as you have the power in governance? The people of the country, once
again, have been flooded by poverty, worse than the conqueror countries of these past centuries.

But my fellow Filipinos, we cannot afford to be complacent in the face of such rampant
corruption. We must rise up and demand accountability from our leaders, regardless of their
stature or influence. We must hold them to the highest ethical standards and ensure that they
serve the interests of the people, not their own personal gain. We must have our solidified rights
and presence for we do our jobs for the country to work. It is our duty, our responsibility, to hold
our leaders accountable for their actions, to demand transparency in government affairs, and to
refuse to turn a blind eye to the injustices perpetrated in our name. And as an American novelist,
William Gaddis said, “Power doesn’t corrupt people, people corrupt power”.

In conclusion, let us rise to the challenge before us with courage and determination. Let us refuse
to be complacent in the face of corruption, to resign ourselves to the status quo. Let us stand
together as one nation, united in our resolve to root out corruption wherever it may be found and
to build a Philippines that we can all be proud to call home.
